Al Rahwan is a shipping company from Saudi Arabia to the UAE that moves furniture, cars, cartons and commercial goods by road on trucks through the Batha crossing, opposite Ghuwaifat on the Emirati side. Most shipments reach the recipient’s door in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah within 2 to 4 days, cars within 3 to 5 days, and urgent parcels by air within 24 to 48 hours. Shipping a carton starts from SAR 140, moving the furniture of a room or studio from SAR 1,300, and shipping a saloon car on a shared carrier from SAR 1,100. - Route: road freight via the Batha crossing and then Ghuwaifat; air freight for light, urgent consignments.
- Transit time: 2 to 4 days for general shipments, 3 to 5 days for cars, and 24 to 48 hours by air.
- Prices: a small parcel from SAR 110, a carton from SAR 140, a room or studio of furniture from SAR 1,300, and a saloon car on a shared carrier from SAR 1,100.
- Collection: from any Saudi city, with delivery to the door in all seven emirates.
- Documents: sender and recipient ID and a contents list; for cars, ownership papers and an authorisation letter where needed.
This guide brings together what customers ask before booking: how much it costs to ship a parcel or a carton, what it costs to move the furniture of a flat or a villa, how a car is shipped to Dubai or Abu Dhabi, which documents each type of shipment needs, what is prohibited, when air freight makes more sense than road, and how shipments for companies, embassies, consulates and their staff are organised. Al Rahwan writes its prices as “from” figures because the final figure changes with the details of each shipment, and sends an itemised quote before loading so there are no surprise extras.

Shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE: Routes and Transit Times
Al Rahwan’s trucks follow one clear route to the UAE: the only land crossing between the two countries is Batha on the Saudi side, which faces the Ghuwaifat crossing on the Abu Dhabi side. From there, shipments fan out to Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to the west and south, and to Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and the rest of the northern emirates. The distance from Riyadh to Dubai is around 1,060 km via Al Ahsa and Batha, and from Riyadh to Abu Dhabi around 960 km. The drive takes between 9.5 and 12 hours, plus half an hour to two hours at the border depending on queues and whether the paperwork is complete.
| From | To | Approximate delivery time | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Riyadh | Dubai and Abu Dhabi | 2 to 3 days | Closest major city to the crossing |
| Dammam, Khobar and Al Ahsa | Dubai and Abu Dhabi | 2 to 3 days | Nearest to the border |
| Jeddah, Makkah and Taif | Dubai and Abu Dhabi | 3 to 5 days | Longer distance via Riyadh |
| Madinah and Yanbu | Dubai and Abu Dhabi | 3 to 5 days | Consolidation, then departure |
| Qassim and Hail | Dubai and Abu Dhabi | 3 to 4 days | Consolidated via Riyadh |
| Abha, Khamis Mushait and Jazan | Dubai and Abu Dhabi | 4 to 6 days | Furthest southern regions |
| Tabuk and the north | Dubai and Abu Dhabi | 4 to 6 days | Depends on the carrier’s schedule |
Sea freight, on the other hand, is used on this route only for large commercial containers, which usually sail from King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam to Jebel Ali Port in Dubai. It needs a slot on the sailing schedule and a road link from the port to the warehouse, so it does not become cheaper simply because the shipment is large; Al Rahwan therefore compares the total cost at both ports, plus the haulage to and from them, with the road option before recommending either.
Collection From Saudi Cities: What Differs From One City to Another?
Al Rahwan collects from all 13 regions of the Kingdom, but the location of your city affects the schedule and the way shipments are consolidated. Cities close to the Eastern Province send their shipments straight out, while more distant cities are usually consolidated at one warehouse and then move together, which lowers your cost but adds a day or two.
If you are in a city we have not listed, write to us with its name and your district and we will reply with the collection date and the expected number of delivery days for the delivery city you choose.
Consolidating One Shipment From Several Cities or Suppliers
Many orders do not leave from a single address: the family home in Riyadh, new furniture bought from a showroom in Jeddah, and goods waiting in a supplier’s warehouse in Dammam. In that case Al Rahwan starts with a separate list for each location, showing the owner of the items, the number of packages, the date they will be ready, and whether their invoice or proof of ownership has been issued. A cut-off date is then agreed for any item to join, so that one minor piece running late does not hold up the whole shipment.
| Source of the items | What we need to know before consolidating | The decision that prevents delay |
|---|---|---|
| Family home in Riyadh | Number of cartons, furniture list and the date the home must be vacated | Fixing the loading day once sorting is finished |
| Furniture showroom in Jeddah | Whether the pieces are ready and their size once packed | Confirming the showroom’s handover date before booking the truck |
| Supplier’s warehouse in Dammam | Number of pallets and the lifting method | Arranging a forklift and naming who hands the goods over |
Splitting the sources into two shipments can sometimes be quicker or cheaper than combining them on one truck; the decision rests on comparing distances, the minimum charge for each shipment and the cost of waiting, not on the number of trucks alone. Each source gets a reference number that links its invoice to the items actually collected from it, which makes clearance at Batha and checking at delivery easier.
Shipping from Riyadh to the UAE in Particular
Riyadh is the Saudi city people ask about most on this route, and it is the closest of the large cities to the UAE border. A shipment leaves Riyadh via Al-Ahsa to the Batha crossing, roughly 960 km to Abu Dhabi and about 1,060 km to Dubai, and delivery usually takes two to three days. Prices from Riyadh start at the same figures given in this guide: a parcel from SAR 110, a carton from SAR 140, a room of furniture from SAR 1,300 and a saloon car on a shared carrier from SAR 1,100.
- Collection from the north, central, east, west and south districts of Riyadh.
- Road freight for furniture, cars, cartons and cargo, and air freight from King Khalid International Airport for light, urgent items.
- District details, move-day timings and villa and compound cases are in our dedicated Riyadh guide.
Shipping Prices from Saudi Arabia to the UAE
How much does shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE cost? A small parcel starts from SAR 110, a medium carton from SAR 140, a large suitcase from SAR 230, shipping by the kilo from SAR 9 for larger quantities, moving the furniture of a room from SAR 1,300, shipping a saloon car from SAR 1,100, and a commercial pallet from SAR 740.
The tables below show the starting prices Al Rahwan uses for road freight from cities across the Kingdom. Each figure is the lowest usual cost; the actual price is set once we know the weight, the volume and the two cities. Please do not rely on a number you hear from anyone until you have been given an itemised quote showing transport, packing and unloading where applicable.
Parcels, cartons and suitcases
| Shipment type | Size or weight | Price from |
|---|---|---|
| Small parcel | Up to 5 kg | SAR 110 |
| Medium carton | Up to 20 kg | SAR 140 |
| Suitcase or large carton | Up to 30 kg | SAR 230 |
| Shipping by the kilo | Per kilogram, for larger quantities | SAR 9 |
Shipping by the kilo suits medium quantities of clothes, household items and light belongings, but remember that the chargeable weight is the higher of the actual weight and the volumetric weight, which we explain in the cost calculation section below.

Furniture Shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE
Furniture needs the most care of any shipment, because a single piece may have to be dismantled, wrapped, secured on the truck and then reassembled on delivery. Al Rahwan starts with a visit, or with photos of your furniture sent by message, to estimate the number and size of the pieces, and then chooses the right truck size and level of protection. Moving the furniture of a room or studio starts from SAR 1,300, a full flat from SAR 4,100 and a villa from SAR 8,300, varying with the two cities, the number of floors, whether there is a lift, and the amount of belongings.
| Size of move | Typical contents | Price from |
|---|---|---|
| Room or studio | Bed, wardrobe and personal items | SAR 1,300 |
| Small flat | Two bedrooms with a living room and kitchen | SAR 2,500 |
| Full flat | 3 or more bedrooms with appliances | SAR 4,100 |
| Villa | Complete furniture, appliances and ornaments | SAR 8,300 |
How We Handle a Furniture Move, Step by Step
We treat every move as a small project with clear stages, because a mistake at one stage affects everything after it. It starts with a quick walk-through of the rooms, or with photos and short videos if you are not in town. We then count the pieces, judge their size, decide how many crew and how much packing material we need, and set a loading time so the lorry can come and go without blocking your neighbours.
- Dismantling: beds and fitted wardrobes are taken apart, and small parts are bagged and numbered.
- Protection: wooden surfaces are wrapped in thick covers, corners get protectors, and glass and mirrors are wrapped in several layers.
- Appliances: moving parts on washing machines are secured, and fridges are emptied and left to dry before loading.
- Loading: heavy pieces go at the bottom and lighter ones on top, held in place with straps.
- Delivery and assembly: items are carried into the right rooms and reassembled on request.
Before a wardrobe is dismantled, photograph how its doors and shelves are arranged, and put its handles, hinges and screws in a bag carrying the same number as the piece, rather than one bag for the fittings of the whole house. Tell the Al Rahwan team about pieces that have already been dismantled several times or repaired, about glass panels, and about parts that can only take weight at certain points. And measure the doors, corridors and lift of your new home before shipping: a sofa that will not fit through the door of a Dubai flat is still a problem, even if it reaches the right address on time.

Car Shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE
Al Rahwan ships cars to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah by road on dedicated car carriers through the Batha crossing, the journey takes 3 to 5 days, and prices vary with the type of carrier and the size of the car. A shared carrier is cheaper because it carries several cars on the same trip, an open flatbed gives your car more space and a quicker departure, and an enclosed carrier is the best choice for luxury and classic cars because it protects them from dust, sun and prying eyes.
| Car type | Carrier type | Price from |
|---|---|---|
| Saloon | Shared | SAR 1,100 |
| Saloon | Open flatbed | SAR 1,650 |
| SUV (4×4) | Shared | SAR 1,400 |
| SUV (4×4) | Open flatbed | SAR 2,050 |
| Luxury car | Enclosed carrier | SAR 2,300 |
At loading, the car is wrapped in a protective cover and its frame is secured with certified straps. Its condition is photographed from every angle before departure and again on arrival, so you have a clear record of how it was. For those who like the detail: the car is not driven to the UAE but loaded onto the carrier, which preserves its odometer reading and its tyres.
Shipping Your Car: The Steps in Detail
- Send us the car details: make, model, plate number and drive type.
- Choose the carrier type to suit your budget, your timing and the level of protection you want.
- Agree a loading time at your location or at the collection yard nearest to you.
- The car is inspected, photographed from every side and its odometer reading recorded.
- The car is strapped down by its chassis and covered with a protective cover.
- It is transported to the border crossing and the paperwork is completed.
- Delivery in the UAE, where the car is checked against the earlier photos.
| Question | Shared carrier | Open flatbed | Enclosed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | Lowest | Mid-range | Highest |
| Timing | Waits for a full load | Often quicker | Follows the schedule |
| Dust protection | Lower | Lower | Full |
| Best for | Everyday car | 4×4 or urgent jobs | Luxury or classic cars |
If you are moving more than one car for your family, ask us about loading them together, as it brings down the average cost per car. For cars that do not run, we offer a special loading method using lifting equipment, and we tell you about any difference in price before you book.
When the car is handed to the carrier, the number of keys and accompanying items such as the spare wheel and tool kit is recorded, and anything not agreed for transport is taken out, because undeclared belongings inside a car can delay it at the crossing. Al Rahwan keeps transport separate from registration in the UAE: whether a car is accepted, or exempt from fees, cannot be assumed from its being in Saudi Arabia or carrying Gulf plates; it depends on the regulations in force at the time of shipping and on the owner’s status.

Commercial Shipping: Containers, Full Truckloads and Pallets
Traders, factories and online shops have three options, which scale with the quantity. The first is pallet shipping on a shared truck, suited to anyone with a few pallets that do not fill a truck. The second is a container, in 20 ft and 40 ft sizes, suited to mixed or uniform goods. The third is the full truck (a trailer around 15 metres long) for large quantities and heavy materials.
| Service | Price from | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| One pallet on a shared truck | SAR 740 | Small regular quantities |
| 20 ft container | SAR 2,300 | Mixed goods or office furniture |
| 40 ft container | SAR 3,500 | Bulky goods |
| Full truck (trailer) | SAR 6,500 | Heavy or full-load shipments |
For commercial goods you need a commercial invoice, a packing list and the importer’s details in the UAE. Clearance goes through the Saudi Fasah platform on the export side and through Dubai Customs’ Mirsal 2 system on entry into Dubai. Al Rahwan’s team coordinates the documents with the customs broker so the truck is not held up at the crossing.
For equipment and project supplies, Al Rahwan needs the weight, dimensions, centre of gravity and lifting points, details of any batteries, oils or sensitive parts, and whether the delivery site can unload with a forklift or a loading dock. If getting a project running in Abu Dhabi or Dubai depends on one small part, it can be sent separately with its own documents so it does not wait for the main shipment. Orders belonging to different customers should not be listed under a single importer, as each commercial order has its own regulatory arrangement.
Shipping for Embassies, Consulates, Official Bodies and Their Staff to the UAE
Al Rahwan organises the move of office furniture, staff housing contents and personal belongings for the staff of embassies, consulates, official bodies and large companies from cities across the Kingdom to the UAE, where embassies are usually based in Abu Dhabi and consulates in Dubai. Each request starts by identifying the body that owns the items, the authorised recipient and the final address for each group. Moving property that belongs to a mission is different from an employee relocating with the family’s belongings, so a separate inventory is prepared for each category, even when they travel on the same truck.
Keeping the Organisation’s Property Separate From the Employee’s
One list is prepared for the organisation’s property and another for personal belongings, each with clear package numbers rather than relying on label colour alone. If two employees move on the same date, each gets a separate reference so that delivery addresses and claims do not get mixed up. The handling of private papers, electronic media and items the owner prefers to carry personally outside the shipment is agreed in advance.
The preparation file Al Rahwan puts together for these shipments includes:
- A shipment reference and a number for every package.
- A list of the offices or rooms and what belongs to each.
- The names of those authorised to hand over in Saudi Arabia and to receive in the UAE.
- The necessary authorisations and the permitted time of access to the premises.
- A split between what goes to the workplace and what goes to the residence, with photos of the outer condition of important pieces and number checks at each delivery.
How Customs Clearance Works at the Border
When the truck reaches the Batha crossing, two stages follow in turn: leaving the Kingdom and then entering the UAE. On the Saudi side, a commercial shipment is registered on the Fasah platform of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, and its data is checked against the invoice and the packing list. On the Emirati side, procedures are completed through the Ghuwaifat crossing, and if the destination is Dubai, the data is registered in Mirsal 2, the Dubai Customs system.
For personal shipments of furniture and cartons the procedures are lighter, but some cartons may be opened for inspection. Al Rahwan therefore recommends packing that is easy to reseal, and a clear contents list on every carton to shorten the inspection time.
Air Freight from Saudi Arabia to the UAE
Air freight suits light, urgent consignments: documents, commercial samples, small spare parts, authorised medicines, or gifts that cannot wait. These shipments normally arrive within 24 to 48 hours of being handed to the carrier. There is no fixed air rate per kilo, because it follows the chargeable weight, the airline route and the departure and arrival airports, so Al Rahwan sends a specific quote once it knows the weight and dimensions.
Air shipments leave from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, and arrive at the airports of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah before being delivered to the address. A volumetric weight example: a carton measuring 50 × 40 × 30 cm has a volume of 60,000 cm³, and dividing by 6000 gives a volumetric weight of 10 kg; if it weighs 6 kg on the scale it is charged as 10 kg, whereas at 13 kg it is charged as 13.

Types of Goods We Ship to the UAE
Shipments are never quite alike, even when they share a destination, and each type has its own way of being packed and loaded. We handle the following items every day, and each gets its own specific care.
| Item | How we handle it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Clothes and fabrics | Sealed bags inside cartons | Usually charged by weight |
| Electrical appliances | Foam packing with secure fixing | Original carton preferred |
| Electronics and mobile phones | Individual packing and insurance | Air freight if urgent |
| Household and kitchen items | Layers of protective paper | Extra care for glass and pottery |
| Car spare parts | Wooden crates or reinforced cartons | Commercial invoice |
| Shop supplies | Pallets wrapped in cellophane | Better rates for regular shipping |
| Dry foods | Moisture-resistant cartons | Check expiry dates and regulations |
| Chilled and frozen foods | Refrigerated carrier | 2 to 8 degrees for chilled, down to minus 20 for frozen |
| Medical equipment | Sterile packing with a permit | Special paperwork |
| Machinery and equipment | Wooden frames and strap fixing | Flatbed truck |
| Paintings and antiques | Custom-made crates | Additional insurance |
| Books and documents | Small cartons to avoid heavy lifting | Air freight if urgent |
The Right Layers of Packing
- A first layer of soft paper or wrapping that protects the surface from scratches.
- A second layer of bubble wrap to absorb shocks.
- A third layer of reinforced cardboard or a wooden crate, depending on the weight.
- Filling the empty spaces inside to stop movement on the road.
- Sealing firmly with strong tape and marking the top side and the fragile side.
- Securing the cartons in the truck with straps and dividers that do not allow sliding.
For food and medicines that need a controlled temperature we use a refrigerated carrier. The required temperature must be set before booking, and the shipment must already be chilled when it is loaded.
Your Shipment’s Journey Day by Day
| Day | What happens |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Collection, packing, inventory and loading, then departure towards the crossing. |
| Day 2 | Arrival at the Batha crossing, completing the procedures and entering the UAE. |
| Day 3 | Arrival at the warehouse or delivery city and agreeing the time with the recipient. |
| Day 4 | Delivery to the recipient’s door, checking the pieces and matching them to the inventory. |
| Day 5 | A reserve day for distant cities or for delays in procedures. |
Not every shipment needs all five days. Most shipments from the central and eastern regions are delivered before the end of day four, but the fifth gives you a realistic margin.
Preparing Your Furniture and Home Before the Move
- Sort your belongings into what will be shipped, what will be sold and what will be left behind.
- Clean the appliances and dry them completely, especially the fridge, washing machine and air conditioner, to prevent smells and mould.
- Unplug electrical appliances a few hours before loading.
- Photograph valuable pieces and note their serial numbers.
- Keep documents, jewellery and medicines with you rather than in the shipment.
- Write the room name on every carton so it is easy to distribute on arrival.
Comparing Ways to Ship to the UAE
| Method | Transit time | Best for | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared road freight | 2 to 5 days | Boxes, furniture and belongings | Lowest |
| Dedicated full-truck road freight | 2 to 4 days | Large and commercial loads | Higher, with a free choice of date |
| Car carrier | 3 to 5 days | Cars | Depends on the carrier |
| Air freight | 24 to 48 hours | Light and urgent items | Highest per kilo |
| Sea freight | Depends on the sailing schedule | Large commercial containers to Jebel Ali | Compared with road once port costs are included |
The right answer depends on what you are shipping. Furniture is simply not suited to air freight, and a few light documents may not justify a whole truck. Tell us about your shipment and we will suggest the method that balances time and cost.
Questions Customers Ask Before Booking
From our experience of the many shipments between the Kingdom and the UAE, the same questions come up before booking. The first is: do I need to be there on loading day? Ideally yes, or send someone to sign the inventory on your behalf. The second: can I change the delivery address during the journey? Yes, before the shipment reaches the delivery city, simply by letting us know. The third: can I visit the warehouse? You are welcome to, to see where your shipment will be kept and how it will be packed.
The fourth: what if the recipient is not there? We call them a few hours before arrival, and if we cannot reach them we keep the shipment in our UAE warehouse until a new date is agreed. The fifth: can I ship my belongings in batches? Yes, and we can combine the batches on the same trip if they are close together.
Shipping by the Kilo, by Volume or by the Piece: What’s the Difference?
| Method | How it is calculated | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| By the kilo | Chargeable weight × price per kilo | Clothes and relatively heavy belongings |
| By volume | Cubic metres or number of pallets | Furniture and bulky goods |
| By the piece | A fixed price per carton or parcel | Matching cartons |
| By the move | An all-inclusive price for the home | A complete furniture move |
No method is best in every case, so we price your shipment using the two suitable methods and show you the cheaper one.
Documents Required to Ship from Saudi Arabia to the UAE
What documents do you need to ship from Saudi Arabia to the UAE? For personal belongings and furniture, an ID or residence permit (iqama), a contents list, a Fasah authorisation for the customs broker, and the recipient’s details and mobile number are enough; commercial goods need a commercial registration, a commercial invoice and a packing list; and a car needs its registration form, plates and an export certificate. Al Rahwan checks the paperwork before loading so the truck is not held up at Batha.
| Shipment type | Documents required | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Personal luggage and cartons | ID or iqama, contents list, Fasah authorisation for the broker, recipient’s details and mobile number | Each carton is marked with its number and general contents |
| Household furniture | ID or iqama, list of pieces, Fasah authorisation, delivery address | The floor and whether there is a lift are given with the address |
| Commercial goods | Commercial registration, commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin on request, importer’s details | Export via the Fasah platform, entry into Dubai via the Mirsal 2 system |
| Car | Vehicle registration form, plates, export certificate, owner’s ID, a letter from the bank if the car is financed, an authorisation if the sender is not the owner | The authorisation can be electronic through the official platforms, and the car is photographed before loading |
| Medicines, chilled goods and battery devices | Invoice or approved prescription for medicines, the competent authority’s permit where required, and the required temperature for chilled goods | Declare them at booking and never hide them in another shipment |
| Embassy and official-body shipments | A letter from the owning body, a property list separate from personal belongings, names of those authorised to hand over and receive | Any exemption needs approval from the competent authorities |
The exact requirements vary with the type of goods and the delivery destination. If your shipment is of a special kind, such as medicines, chilled food or devices containing batteries, tell us when you book so we can confirm the right paperwork before loading.

Prohibited Items for Road Shipping to the UAE
Some items are not accepted by shipping companies or are banned from entry, and knowing them in advance saves your shipment from being refused at the crossing. This list is general guidance, and the customs authority is the final reference in any case of doubt.
- Narcotics, psychotropic substances and anything similar.
- Weapons, ammunition and related equipment.
- Explosive and flammable materials and compressed gases.
- Printed matter and products that breach regulations.
- Cash and jewellery that have not been declared.
- Counterfeit products and pirated goods.
- Hazardous chemicals without a licence.
- Medicines that are unauthorised or require an approved prescription.

Details to Send in One Message
For a useful estimate from the first contact, send: the collection city and district, the number of collection points, the emirate and area at destination, the type of items and number of packages, the dimensions of the largest piece, and the date you need. Add photos of the entrances, floor and lift, and the services you need, such as dismantling and assembly, a crate for glass or an enclosed carrier for a car. If the shipment is for an official body, an embassy or a group of employees, say so and name the authorised contact, without sending sensitive documents at the first enquiry stage.
Delivery Across All Seven Emirates
Al Rahwan delivers across all seven emirates, with placement and assembly on request, and arrival time varies slightly with the distance from the Ghuwaifat crossing.
| Emirate | Main areas | Extra time after the crossing |
|---|---|---|
| Abu Dhabi | Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra | Closest to the border |
| Dubai | Deira, Al Barsha, Al Marsa and Dubai Marina | Half a day to a day |
| Sharjah | Al Majaz, Al Nahda and Al Khan | Half a day to a day |
| Ajman | Al Nuaimiya and Al Rashidiya | Half a day to a day |
| Umm Al Quwain | The old town area | A day |
| Ras Al Khaimah | The industrial area and Al Marjan | A day to a day and a half |
| Fujairah | Fujairah Corniche | A day to a day and a half |
Before the truck arrives, the Al Rahwan team needs the recipient’s number and a back-up number, the floor, whether there is a lift, the loading entrance, and the distance between where the truck parks and the door. In buildings run by facilities management companies, lift slots and a moving permit are booked in advance, and for warehouses it is confirmed whether there is a forklift or loading dock and who signs for delivery.
Delivery Details in Each Emirate
Abu Dhabi and Al Ain
The first emirate the shipment enters via Ghuwaifat, and the one that receives shipments fastest. We deliver within Abu Dhabi Island and in Khalifa City, Mohamed Bin Zayed City, Al Shamkha and Al Ain; delivery within the island usually needs a time to be agreed with the building’s property management.
Dubai
The most requested destination. We deliver in Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, Al Barsha, Al Qusais, Deira, Bur Dubai, Al Warqa and elsewhere, and we respect the lift booking times that residential towers impose; a moving permit from the building management may also be needed.
Sharjah and Ajman
Close to Dubai, with shipments usually delivered on the same day or the day after Dubai. Their residential areas have mostly mid-rise buildings, so they do not normally face restrictions like those in some Dubai towers.
Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah
Northern and eastern destinations that need extra distance beyond Dubai. We set an independent delivery date and arrange it with the recipient by phone well before the driver arrives.
Storage Before Shipping or After Arrival in the UAE
Dates do not always line up: your lease in Riyadh may end two weeks before you get the keys to your flat in Dubai, or the furniture may reach Abu Dhabi while the recipient is still travelling. For these cases Al Rahwan offers temporary storage on request, either before shipping in Saudi Arabia once the goods are packed and inventoried, or on arrival in the UAE until the recipient is ready. The storage period, terms and cost are set out in the itemised quote before booking, because they vary with the size of the shipment, the duration and the city.
- The shipment stays packed and numbered as it left your home, so nothing is dismantled or repacked.
- The inventory list is kept with the shipment and checked piece by piece when it is released.
- Tell Al Rahwan before the truck sets off if your home will not be ready, so the cost of waiting can be compared with storage or with rescheduling delivery.
- Clean and dry appliances before storage, because moisture inside a fridge closed for days leaves a smell that is hard to remove.
A Two-Stage Arrival Plan
Belongings can be split into a first batch with what is needed to start living or working, such as beds, kitchen items and essential office equipment, and a second batch for furniture or stock that is not needed straight away. The aim is not more trips but fewer days in which the family or business is without essentials, with the cost of each trip and handling taken into account. Write a separate list for each batch, decide who can move an item from one batch to the other and when each list closes, and do not load pieces that need immediate installation before the place to receive them is ready.
Delivering to More Than One Address in the UAE
The family’s belongings may be heading to Dubai, office equipment to Abu Dhabi and a supplier’s goods to a warehouse in Sharjah. In that case each address has its own owner, recipient and package list, and the unloading order is agreed before loading, so the packages for the last address go in first and the whole truck does not have to be emptied to reach one carton. If one of the addresses is inside a free zone or a facility with special access arrangements, ask the recipient to describe the procedure and who coordinates it, because reaching the zone is not the same as delivering inside the facility.
How to Calculate Your Shipping Cost
Companies charge on the higher of the actual and volumetric weight. For road freight, we divide (length × width × height in centimetres) by 5000 to get the volumetric weight in kilograms.
You can use the volumetric weight calculator and the price calculator on the site for a quick estimate, and we then confirm the final figure after assessing the shipment.
Calculating Carton Volume in Cubic Metres
For furniture and larger quantities, volume is calculated in cubic metres: multiply length by width by height in metres. A carton measuring 60 × 40 × 40 cm has a volume of 0.6 × 0.4 × 0.4 = 0.096 cubic metres, and ten such cartons total 0.96 cubic metres, close to one cubic metre before any pallet or protective crates are added. Do not subtract gaps that cannot actually be used, and do not assume every package can take weight on top; a large mirror or a sheet of glass needs its own protective space.
To save messages back and forth, write down the number of identical packages and the dimensions and weight of each group, then list the items that differ; a single photo of several cartons shows neither their depth nor their weight. If you have no suitable scale, say that the weight is an estimate rather than giving an unmeasured figure, and the Al Rahwan team will check it during preparation.
Worked Examples: Calculating Your Shipment Cost
Bare figures are not enough to picture the cost, so here are three common scenarios at starting prices, followed by what pushes the number up or down. These examples are for illustration and are not a final offer; the itemised quote is prepared once we know the details.
Example 1: an employee relocating with suitcases and light belongings
An employee ships two suitcases and two cartons from Riyadh to Dubai. If each suitcase weighs 28 kg and each carton 15 kg, the chargeable total is about 86 kg. At a per-kilo rate starting from SAR 9, that comes to around SAR 770, whereas shipping the four items individually, from SAR 230 per suitcase and from SAR 140 per carton, comes to around SAR 740. So the cheaper method changes with the weights, which is why we show you both calculations and choose the lower one.
Example 2: a family moving a three-bedroom flat
A family moves from Dammam to Abu Dhabi with the furniture of a full flat. The price starts from SAR 4,100 and goes up if the furniture is on a high floor without a lift, if there are heavy items such as a safe or a piano, or if dismantling and assembly is requested in every room. It comes down if the furniture is limited and can share a truck with another move heading the same way.
Example 3: an online shop supplying its goods
A shop in Jeddah sends 6 pallets of accessories to a warehouse in Sharjah. One pallet starts from SAR 740, so the total starts from SAR 4,440, with the chance of a better rate when shipping repeats monthly. For repeat shipping we fix a regular weekly collection day, which cuts both the waiting time and the cost.
| What pushes the price up | What brings it down |
|---|---|
| A high floor without a lift | Consolidating with a trip already planned |
| Heavy or large pieces | Good packing done in advance by the customer |
| An urgent date at peak times | Flexibility on the collection date |
| A delivery city far from the crossing | Delivery to a warehouse instead of the home |
| Dismantling and assembly service | Dismantling the furniture yourself before we arrive |
How to Get the Cheapest Shipping to the UAE
- Combine your shipments into one rather than sending several small ones.
- Choose the shared carrier for cars if you are not pressed for time.
- Pack well to reduce the volumetric weight.
- Send photos of your pieces so we can price accurately and you avoid extras.
- Book a few days before busy seasons.
- Compare quotes line by line, not just by the total.
How to Compare Two Quotes Without Surprises
Compare the same number of pieces, the same door-to-door distance and the same level of packing. Then check the lines for loading from a high floor, carrying by hand over a long distance between the truck and the entrance, and the need for a smaller vehicle within the Emirati cities; these lines sometimes explain a price difference more than the international haulage itself. Ask for the basic transport cost to be shown separately from optional services: a quote that takes furniture to the building entrance is not the same as one that carries it into the rooms and reassembles it, even if both say “door to door”.
Common Mistakes When Shipping to the UAE
Other frequent mistakes include declaring a carton as clothes when it also holds appliances or liquids, forgetting to book the tower lift in Dubai, and the team receiving conflicting instructions from family members, the supplier and the recipient. That is why Al Rahwan asks for one person to have the final say on adding or removing an item, and every change is recorded with its effect on quantity, price and date. For example, a customer agreed 20 cartons and then added a large mirror: the mirror needs a crate and space that cannot be stacked on, so the addition and its protection are approved before loading day, not on it.
How to Choose the Right Shipping Company
- An itemised quote, not a lump-sum figure.
- Clear information on the transit time, the route and the crossing.
- Professional packing and a documented inventory of items.
- Continuous tracking of the shipment from collection to delivery.
- Previous experience of the border route and of clearance.
- Quick contact by phone and WhatsApp.
Insurance, Tracking and After Delivery
Al Rahwan offers insurance for every shipment according to its value, and recommends it especially for appliances, luxury furniture and cars. Insurance covers loss or damage under the terms of its policy, and to activate it you need a list of the real values of the contents. Before transport, ask for the limits of liability, the policy exclusions and how an item’s value is calculated in a claim, because the words “safe shipping” alone do not define your rights. As for tracking, Al Rahwan sends you a notification at collection, at the Batha crossing, on arrival at the delivery city and at delivery, and you can ask where your shipment is on the same number at any stage.
- Check the shipment in front of the driver at delivery and compare it with the inventory list.
- Note any breakage or shortage on the receipt form before signing.
- Photograph damaged pieces and send them to us straight away so we can start the claim.
- Keep the original cartons of valuable appliances until you are sure they are in good condition.
On the other hand, when things go as they do for most shipments, you will not need to do anything: just sign for the delivery and keep a copy of the inventory.
After delivery, start with the numbered first-day packages: bedding, basic tools and the essential appliance fittings, then open the rest in the order you will use and assemble them. Keep each piece’s bag of fittings beside it, and do not throw away an appliance box you may need for an inspection or a claim.
