Shipping Company from Riyadh to Oman | 0568829975 ◈ Road Freight from Riyadh across the Empty Quarter with Car Shipping

From any Riyadh district, Al Kharj or Diriyah to Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa and Salalah: household goods, cars, stock and equipment cross the Empty Quarter and reach Muscat 3–5 days after loading. Goods from SAR 790 a tonne, a 4x4 on a shared carrier from SAR 2,780, with unloading and assembly in Oman.

As a Shipping Company from Riyadh to Oman, Al Rahwan collects household contents, vehicles, boxes and merchandise from any Riyadh address and sends them in an enclosed truck east to the Al Batha road junction, then south on the long road through the sands until it meets the Empty Quarter crossing (Al Rub’ Al Khali), across to Ramlat Khaylah, Ibri and on to Muscat. From loading day to delivery in Muscat and the northern cities it takes 3–5 days, with customs on both sides included in that figure. Prices begin at SAR 110 for a suitcase or box tipping the scales at up to 30 kg; a single room’s contents cost from SAR 1,100, and a sedan sharing one carrier with other cars from SAR 1,680. Call 0568829975 by phone or WhatsApp; a person answers from 7 am to 11 pm on every day of the week, while orders can be lodged on the website round the clock. All the first call needs is your Riyadh district, the Omani wilayat you are moving to and what you want to send.

Requests on this lane from Riyadh are more varied than people expect. An Omani engineer who has finished his contract at an Al Olaya firm sends his flat’s contents back to Seeb. A resident starting a job in Sohar brings his 4×4 along. A household in An Narjis has bought a house in Al Amerat and wants to furnish it from their old home. A web shop based in the Second Industrial City sends customer orders to Nizwa and Sur. A contractor needs a generator, photocopiers and desks at a new site in Duqm. Each pays according to the size and kind of load: a three-room flat complete with fridge and washer starts from SAR 1,850, a family 4×4 sharing a car carrier from SAR 2,780, commercial goods from SAR 790 a tonne, while the generator and other equipment are priced once their weight, dimensions and lifting needs are known.

The route from Riyadh: east to Al Batha, then 564 km across the Empty Quarter sands

There is one direct land crossing between Saudi Arabia and Oman: the Empty Quarter crossing, which falls under the Eastern Province and faces the Omani post at Ramlat Khaylah in Al Dhahirah Governorate. A truck leaving Riyadh does not head straight south, as some people imagine. It takes the eastern road towards the Eastern Province until it reaches the junction with the Al Batha road, then turns onto the highway cut through the heart of the dunes. From that junction to the crossing is about 564 km of open desert, followed by about 161 km on Omani soil to the Ibri roundabout, so the desert road alone comes to roughly 725 km from start to Ibri. The Saudi side has a dedicated yard for commercial trucks, which keeps freight apart from travellers’ cars.

Road freight from Riyadh to Oman through the Empty Quarter

This road brought Riyadh much closer to Muscat, because the only alternative before it meant passing through a third country. The desert highway has its own character, though: a long stretch with no large towns along it and fierce heat in the summer months. Trucks are prepared before they set off, fuel and stops are planned, and packing is chosen with the temperature inside a closed box body in mind. The load itself is never unloaded on the way; the truck that was filled outside your Riyadh home is the one that reaches the border and crosses it.

Stage Where What happens
Loading Your Riyadh district or the consolidation warehouse Inventory, packing, numbering and stacking inside an enclosed truck
Eastern road Riyadh → Al Batha road junction Highway driving towards the Eastern Province
Empty Quarter road Junction → Empty Quarter crossing About 564 km of desert to the truck yard
Saudi clearance Empty Quarter crossing The export declaration lodged on Fasah is matched and the load inspected
Omani clearance Ramlat Khaylah Omani customs formalities on the Bayan system and inspection
Into the cities Ibri → Muscat and the other governorates About 161 km to Ibri, then distribution to each wilayat
Delivery The receiver’s address Unloading, placing and assembly on home moves

What happens to the load at the Empty Quarter crossing and Ramlat Khaylah?

What gets done at the border is prepared in Riyadh days earlier. You, or someone acting for you, log in to Fasah, the portal run by the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, and grant the broker an electronic mandate; he then files the export declaration with the contents and their value. When the truck pulls in, the load is checked against that declaration, and some cartons may be opened to confirm they hold what the list says. Cleared by the Saudi officers, the truck rolls forward to Ramlat Khaylah, where Royal Oman Police customs, formally its Directorate General of Customs, inspects the load and completes the entry on Bayan, the electronic platform that will not register a receiver who has no Omani mobile number.

When the paperwork is complete and consistent, the crossing is an ordinary part of the journey that the customer barely notices. Trouble begins when a truck arrives with a missing line on its list, a receiver whose name differs from his ID card, or an appliance in a carton that was never declared. That is why Al Rahwan reviews every file before loading, not at the border.

When does a load go through the UAE instead of the Empty Quarter?

The Empty Quarter road is the shortest way from Riyadh to Ibri, Al Dakhiliyah and Muscat, and from there roads run south to Salalah. Truck drivers still know the older way in: out of the Kingdom at Al Batha, across Emirati territory, then into Oman at Hatta and Al Wajajah when the destination is Muscat, at Khatmat Malaha for Shinas or Sohar, or at one of the Al Buraimi posts. Al Rahwan decides on two things: the wilayat where the truck will be emptied, and the nature of what it carries. A shipment for Al Buraimi or North Al Batinah may be better routed through the UAE, Musandam can only be reached by land through Emirati territory, and some consolidated loads travel with other cargo on that road. A family bound for Muscat, Nizwa or Ibri normally goes via the Empty Quarter. What matters is that you know before booking which way your goods will travel, because the UAE route means more border posts and extra transit formalities.

What delays loads on this route?

  • A thin inventory: “household items” or “kitchenware” is not enough; you need the number of cartons and a description of each in Arabic and English.
  • Undeclared items: a large battery, a drone, a quantity of medicine or a radio set packed in a box of clothes.
  • No Omani number for the receiver: Bayan needs one, and without it registration stalls.
  • Mismatched names: the receiver’s name on the list does not match his ID or residence card.
  • Trade goods among personal effects: cartons of stock for sale with no commercial invoice, which changes how the whole load is treated.
  • An incomplete Omani address: just a city name, with no wilayat, district or house or building number.

Car shipping from Riyadh to Oman

A car leaving Riyadh with Al Rahwan is driven up onto one deck of a long transporter that carries several vehicles stacked above each other; its body is dressed in a protective cover and its wheels and frame are strapped down so nothing can shift, and the transporter then heads down the same desert highway to Ramlat Khaylah. Expect roughly the same 3–5 days as other Riyadh freight before it reaches Muscat or a northern town, as the car is cleared separately. A sedan sharing the transporter starts from SAR 1,680 and a 4×4 from SAR 2,780. Should you want the whole carrier for your car on a date of your choosing, that begins at SAR 2,400, and a luxury, sports or classic car travels in a fully enclosed carrier from SAR 4,150.

Paperwork for a car leaving Riyadh

Have the valid istimara (registration), a copy of the owner’s ID or iqama, and the export certificate and plates from the traffic department once the car has been deregistered for export; Oman wants proof of export issued by whichever state the car was registered in. Clear any traffic fines against the plate first, and if a finance company or bank still has a claim on the car, obtain its written consent to export. A relative or driver handing the car over in place of the owner needs an authorisation. On the Omani side, the receiver registers the car with the Royal Oman Police after inspection. Before a slot on the transporter is reserved, the Al Rahwan team reviews what Oman requires for importing your model, so you never cancel the registration in Riyadh only to learn at Ramlat Khaylah that something else was needed.

Your car before loading day

  • The car travels empty: no cartons in the boot, no bags on the seats; those belong with the furniture or carton shipment.
  • Photograph the car from all four sides and inside, note the odometer, and keep the photos until delivery.
  • Leave only a little fuel, enough for loading and unloading.
  • Report any fault, leak or low ground clearance before loading, as it decides how the car is put on the carrier.
  • Remove detachable exterior accessories and close the windows fully.
  • Hand over only the agreed keys and write their number on the collection sheet.

Drive to Oman or ship the car?

If you are visiting and coming back with your car, you simply drive it through under the usual traveller procedures at the border; that is not shipping. If you are relocating and want the car to stay in Oman, you face export from the Kingdom and registration in the Sultanate, and this is where the carrier pays off: a tidy export file, no long desert drive after days of packing and loading, and the car can arrive in the same week as the furniture. Take a family sending its flat (from SAR 1,850) along with its 4×4 (from SAR 2,780): the two together start at SAR 4,630.

How long does shipping from Riyadh to Oman take?

Between 3 and 5 days from loading in Riyadh to delivery in Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa or Ibri, including clearance at the Empty Quarter crossing and Ramlat Khaylah. Allow a day or two more for Salalah in Dhofar, for Haima and Duqm in Al Wusta, and for wilayats off the main roads. A car arrives in roughly the same time as the furniture, and an air parcel lands within 24–48 hours of hand-over.

Type of shipment Muscat and the north Salalah and Al Wusta
Furniture, household goods, cartons 3–5 days One to two extra days
Commercial goods, full or part load 3–5 days One to two extra days
Cars on a carrier About the same as furniture One to two extra days
Urgent air parcel 24–48 hours to Muscat International Airport Depending on available flights to Salalah Airport

The figure that matters is not time on the road but the whole span from closing the truck doors in Riyadh to opening your front door in Oman. Before that come a day or two for the survey, packing and paperwork, so book at least a week before you hand back your Riyadh home, and leave a margin between the expected arrival and anything that cannot move, such as your first working day in Muscat or returning the keys to your old flat.

Muscat or Salalah: why do timing and price differ?

Muscat and the northern towns lie along the road coming in from Ibri, a relatively short run after the border, and most shared Riyadh loads are heading there, so trucks fill quickly. Salalah sits far in the south, the road to it crosses Al Wusta, and fewer loads go that way, so delivery runs a day or two behind Muscat and the price reflects the longer drive. Do not rely on a Muscat price for a shipment bound for Salalah; ask for a quote naming the wilayat where you will take delivery.

Prices for shipping from Riyadh to Oman

Every number in this table is in Saudi riyals and marks where pricing begins; what you finally pay turns on volume, weight, packing, the Omani wilayat and the services needed at each end. There is nearly always a promotion running at Al Rahwan, so mention it on your first call.

Item Starts from
Small parcel up to 5 kg SAR 32
Carton or suitcase up to 30 kg SAR 110
Urgent air parcel up to 5 kg SAR 110
Road freight per kilo (volume, to Muscat) SAR 5.5
Part load on a shared truck SAR 410
One room of furniture SAR 1,100
Small office SAR 1,020
Flat of up to three rooms with appliances SAR 1,850
Villa or whole house SAR 4,150
Dedicated enclosed truck (transport only) SAR 4,200
Sedan on a shared carrier SAR 1,680
Four-wheel drive on a shared carrier SAR 2,780
Car on its own dedicated carrier SAR 2,400
Luxury car in an enclosed carrier SAR 4,150
Commercial goods per tonne SAR 790
20 ft container (by sea, for traders) SAR 5,200

Some items have no figure in the table because every case differs: an air parcel heavier than 5 kg is billed on chargeable weight, a pallet has to be measured and weighed, a 40 ft container is priced on its own, and the same goes for a made-to-measure wooden crate, a heavy machine, taking down an air conditioner and recovering its gas, days in storage and the insurance premium. All of these are priced at the survey visit, which costs nothing, or through an itemised quote. Loads for Salalah and distant governorates carry an addition for the longer road.

How much does shipping from Riyadh to Oman cost?

The bill opens at SAR 32 if all you have is a small packet of 5 kg or less, and rises to SAR 110 for each bag or box up to 30 kg. For furniture, a single bedroom starts at SAR 1,100, three rooms and their appliances at SAR 1,850 and a whole villa at SAR 4,150; a sedan riding a shared transporter begins at SAR 1,680. Each figure is a floor for Muscat and the northern cities, and the final quote is itemised after the survey.

Three worked examples from Riyadh

  • A graduating student: five suitcases and cartons, each up to 30 kg: 5 × 110 = from SAR 550, arriving in Muscat in 3–5 days.
  • An employee relocating to Seeb: his bedroom (SAR 1,100) plus his sedan on a shared transporter (SAR 1,680) = from SAR 2,780.
  • A wholesaler in As Sulay: three tonnes of goods to Sohar: 3 × 790 = from SAR 2,370, or a dedicated enclosed truck from SAR 4,200 if his stock fills it alone.

What pushes the cost up, and what brings it down?

Cost rises with volume after packing rather than before, with heavy pieces that need a hoist or more than four porters, with upper floors without a lift in Riyadh or in Oman, with distant wilayats and with a dedicated truck on a fixed date. It falls when you get rid of cheap furniture that costs more to move than to replace, accept a shared load, book early and have your papers ready before loading day. A per-kilo rate says nothing about the cost of a large wardrobe, and a per-room price does not automatically include every dismantling and assembly job, which is why each item is listed separately on the quote.

How to compare two quotes for Oman

Item What it should state Why it matters
Delivery point Wilayat, district, floor, lift and carrying distance Reaching Muscat is not the same as the furniture reaching your rooms
Preparation Dismantling, type of packing, special crates, assembly A light outer wrap differs from full protection for a delicate piece
Handling Loading, unloading, crew size and any hoist Warehouses and tower blocks may need equipment or a delivery slot
Start of the clock Whether days count from loading or from departure Comparing road time with full service time is misleading
Exclusions Waiting time, redelivery, storage, fees not included This is where the cost hidden behind the headline figure appears

Collection across Riyadh and from Al Kharj, Diriyah, Al Muzahimiyah and Al Majmaah

Al Rahwan collects from every district of the capital, from the new northern suburbs to the old central quarters, from gated compounds to apartment towers and industrial warehouses. What changes from one district to the next is not whether the job is accepted but how it is loaded: a narrow street in an older area needs a small vehicle to shuttle furniture to the big truck, a tower in Al Olaya needs the lift booked and building management’s approval, and a compound needs entry permits for the crew and the truck.

Area Example districts Loading note
North Riyadh Al Malqa, An Narjis, Al Yasmin, As Sahafah, Hittin, Al Arid, Al Qirawan Large villas and mostly wide streets; the big truck parks at the door
East Riyadh Ar Rawdah, Ar Rayyan, An Nasim, Al Hamra, Qurtubah, Al Yarmuk, Al Khaleej Flats and multi-storey buildings; the lift situation must be known
Central Riyadh Al Olaya, As Sulimaniyah, Al Malaz, Al Murabba, Al Wurud Towers and office buildings; lift booking and management approval
West Riyadh As Suwaidi, Dhahrat Laban, Al Uraija, Namar Some inner streets need a small vehicle for the local shuttle
South Riyadh Ash Shifa, Al Aziziyah, Badr, Ad Dar Al Baida, Second Industrial City, As Sulay Warehouses and factories; loading bays and forklifts

Nearby towns in Riyadh Region are covered through consolidation: Al Kharj, Diriyah, Al Muzahimiyah and Al Majmaah. Goods are collected from the address in these towns and added to the Riyadh load bound for Oman, so you do not pay for a whole truck for a few boxes. Dyna and pick-up vehicles are used for this local leg only, from your home to the big truck or the consolidation warehouse; the large enclosed trucks are the ones that cross the border.

Moving furniture and household goods from Riyadh to Oman

The first step in moving a home from Riyadh to Muscat is a visit from an Al Rahwan supervisor, or a video call where you carry the phone from room to room, and neither costs anything. He sorts the contents into three groups: pieces to dismantle, pieces that deserve a wooden crate, and pieces that normal wrapping will protect, then sends prices line by line. For budgeting, a bedroom begins at SAR 1,100, three rooms plus the fridge and washer at SAR 1,850, and a full villa at SAR 4,150. In Oman the crew unloads, places, assembles and arranges, so you are not left with cartons piled in the living room.

Inventory and numbering: how each piece finds its room

A good list is written room by room: the main bedroom with its bed, wardrobe and dresser, then the children’s rooms, then the majlis, sofas and dining table, then the kitchen and appliances. Each piece gets a code combining a room letter and an item number, and the same code goes on every wardrobe panel and on the bag holding its screws and handles. That way the carpenter in Muscat finds the wardrobe panels and their fixings together and does not spend assembly time hunting through dozens of cartons. Every piece is photographed before wrapping, and the photos become the record of its condition at delivery.

Packing matched to each piece and to the heat of the road

  • Upholstered sofas: a clean sheet of paper or fabric against the upholstery, a thick blanket over it, and an outer layer of plastic wound slackly, because film pressed tight against fabric traps desert heat and damp.
  • Wood and wardrobes: corner and edge guards, then corrugated board over the large surfaces.
  • Glass, mirrors and wall pictures: rigid board cut to size; the big ones go into a timber box built for them, costed when the supervisor has seen them.
  • Crockery and small ornaments: paper around each item, then cartons with internal dividers that stop any movement.
  • Mattresses: sealed mattress bags against dust.
  • What stays out of the truck: candles, perfumes, medicines and aerosols, because Empty Quarter heat inside a closed box body can melt or spoil them; carry them yourself.

Kitchens, air conditioners and appliances

A kitchen is taken apart unit by unit, each wall and base cabinet gets a number, and the stone worktop travels in its own wrapping because it is the heaviest and most breakable part; the kitchen is only refitted in Oman after the new wall has been measured. A window air conditioner is removed and wrapped as one piece, whereas a split system waits for a technician to recover its refrigerant into the condenser before anyone touches the pipes; this job is costed at the survey. The fridge is switched off the day before loading and dried out, the washer gets its transport bolts back in, if you kept them, and a large TV goes in its original box or a padded case, always following the manufacturer’s instructions. Wrapping an appliance while it is still damp traps moisture inside, so let everything dry fully before sealing it.

Majlis seating, rugs and tents

Riyadh homes often have Arabic majlis seating with floor cushions and heavy bolsters, hand-made rugs and sometimes a tent or goat-hair shelter for desert trips. Floor seating is wrapped in cloth covers and then plastic, rugs are cleaned and rolled around a tube rather than folded so the knots do not break, and a tent is taken down with its poles and ropes bundled together and numbered. These items look simple but take a lot of space in the truck, so mention them at the survey so they are counted.

Shipping cartons, suitcases and parcels from Riyadh

Not everyone shipping to Oman moves a whole house. Many Riyadh requests are a graduate’s suitcases, boxes of clothes and books for an employee who went ahead of his family to Muscat, family gifts, or an urgent envelope of documents. A packet weighing no more than 5 kg ships from SAR 32, and a bag or box reaching 30 kg from SAR 110. Such items join a shared load on the same road and arrive in 3–5 days without you paying for a truck.

Shipping Company from Riyadh to Oman - numbered cartons and wrapped suitcases lined up on a loading platform in a Riyadh warehouse before shipping to Oman
Cartons and luggage from Riyadh to Oman

Measure a carton or suitcase after packing, not before, and from its furthest point, wheels and handles included, then send the weight and dimensions with a photo of the finished piece, because a large light box may be charged on its size rather than its weight. Cubic metres are easy to work out: take the product of the three sides in centimetres and divide it by a million; a 60 × 40 × 50 cm carton is 0.12 cubic metres, and eight of the same size make 0.96 cubic metres. That figure helps you describe your shipment, but it is not necessarily the billed space, since some pieces need room around them or cannot have anything stacked on top.

  • Number cartons in sequence: 1 of 9, 2 of 9, up to 9 of 9, and write the receiver’s name and wilayat on each.
  • Put books and heavy things in small cartons that can bear the weight, and light items in the large ones.
  • Make one carton for your first days in Oman: documents, chargers, basic kitchen things and two days of clothes, and mark it in a different colour.
  • List everything that needs checking: batteries, perfumes, medicines, liquids and food; packing them in a personal suitcase does not change the rules for them.
  • Keep a copy of the list and send another to the receiver in Oman before the goods arrive.

Shipping commercial goods, equipment and office machines from Riyadh

Riyadh is a major trading centre, and wholesale stock, building materials, spare parts, office furniture, exhibition fittings and equipment all leave it for Oman. Al Rahwan ships goods by the tonne from SAR 790, by the kilo on the road from SAR 5.5 for volume going to Muscat, on a shared truck for a part load from SAR 410, or in a dedicated enclosed truck for your goods alone from SAR 4,200 for transport. Pallets are priced by number, dimensions and weight, so ask for an itemised quote for them.

Full load or part load?

A part load (LTL) suits a trader sending a few pallets or cartons that will not fill a truck: he pays for his share of the space, and the truck waits for other customers’ goods to complete its load before setting off. A full load (FTL) suits anyone who fills a truck, needs a fixed departure date not tied to anyone else, or ships goods that must not be mixed with others. Customers who send large volumes regularly agree a fixed schedule, and space is held for them on each run.

Equipment, office machines and exhibition stands

Equipment needs more information than ordinary goods: its dimensions in shipping position, its weight, its lifting points, the parts that can be removed, and the maker’s instructions. Before booking, it must be clear how it will be lifted in Riyadh and set down in Oman; a crane at your warehouse does not mean there is one at the receiver’s. Office machines such as large printers, photocopiers and servers are packed in padded cases and fixed inside the truck so they do not vibrate. Exhibition stands, display shelving and screens are dismantled, numbered and grouped stand by stand, ready to be rebuilt in Muscat or Sohar in time for the show. A small office starts from SAR 1,020; heavy equipment is priced after the survey.

Containers by sea: when do they suit a trader?

With the capital far from any coast, a container that goes by sea first rides a truck to Dammam, is loaded aboard at King Abdulaziz Port, and sails for Sohar, Salalah or Duqm. This option is for commercial containers only: expect from SAR 5,200 for a twenty-foot box, while the forty-foot size gets its own quote. It suits a trader importing a large quantity for an industrial zone near one of those ports; household goods and cars are faster and simpler by road.

Riyadh online stores and their customers in Oman

A Riyadh web shop selling oud, abayas or phone accessories picks up buyers in Muscat, Sohar and Nizwa, and soon asks how to get orders there without freight swallowing the margin. The approach Al Rahwan uses is to gather a week’s orders into one shipment charged by the kilo or as a part load, then distribute them in Oman. Paperwork for the store means its CR certificate, a sales invoice and packing list, and an Omani importer or registered consignee, because goods for sale are treated as trade cargo, not as personal effects. A single urgent order can fly instead; up to 5 kg, that starts at SAR 110.

Road, air or sea from Riyadh?

Mode Time Starts from Best for
Road via the Empty Quarter 3–5 days to Muscat SAR 32 a parcel, SAR 1,100 a room Furniture, cars, cartons and goods
Air 24–48 hours SAR 110 up to 5 kg Documents, personal medicines and small urgent items
Sea from Dammam port Depending on sailings SAR 5,200 for a 20 ft container Large commercial containers only

The simple rule: anything that fills a truck body or part of one goes by road, anything small and urgent goes by air, and sea is for the trader with containers. One shipment can be split: the bag of documents and medicines by plane, the household by truck, the car on a carrier, provided each part has its own list and receiver.

Air freight from Riyadh to Oman

When waiting for a truck is not an option, the parcel is handed in at Riyadh, flown out of King Khalid International Airport and lands at Muscat International Airport, reaching its owner within 24–48 hours; for Salalah, timing follows the schedule of flights into its airport. The urgent rate begins at SAR 110 for anything up to 5 kg, and above that weight you get a price built on chargeable weight and carton size.

Air freight from Riyadh to Oman

An airline compares two numbers and charges the bigger: the weight on its scale, and the result of dividing length × width × height (in centimetres) by 6000, known as volumetric weight. Here is how it plays out: picture a 60 × 50 × 40 cm carton: 120,000 cubic centimetres; divided by 6000 that gives a volumetric weight of 20 kg, so even if it weighs only 9 kg, the bill is worked out on 20 kg. So do not put light clothes in a big box and fly it; it is cheaper to choose a carton that fits the contents or to send it by road.

Flying makes sense for a passport left behind, signed papers someone must present at a new job, a replacement part for a stalled production line, or prescribed medicines. It does not accept what airlines forbid, such as flammable liquids, loose batteries not fitted in their devices and aerosols, and each item is checked before hand-over.

Documents needed to ship from Riyadh to Oman

For a household or personal effects, the file has two halves. The sender’s half: copies of his passport and of his national ID or iqama, a list of every piece written in both languages, and the mandate he grants the broker from his Fasah account. The receiver’s half, in Oman: his name, Omani mobile number and address down to governorate, wilayat and district, a copy of his ID or residence card, and his own mandate for the broker on the Omani side. Stock and vehicles each need further papers, set out in the table.

Shipment type Documents
Personal effects and household goods From the sender: passport, national ID or iqama, the two-language list, his Fasah mandate. From the receiver: an Omani mobile for Bayan, where he lives down to the floor and lift, his Omani card or residence card in copy, and his own mandate to the broker
Commercial goods The exporter’s CR with the sales invoice and packing list, the Omani importer’s name and details, and an origin certificate if one is asked for
Car Istimara and the owner’s ID, export certificate and plates handed in at traffic, no outstanding fines, the lender’s consent if there is finance, a mandate for whoever delivers it, and the Omani receiver’s name
Air parcel Sender’s ID · description and value of contents · receiver’s name, phone and address

Customs on both sides of the Empty Quarter crossing

On the Saudi side, the broker handles export formalities through Fasah once you have authorised him online; the export declaration is lodged before the truck moves, then the load is inspected at the crossing and some cartons may be opened. At Ramlat Khaylah the file passes to Royal Oman Police customs, which examines the cargo and clears it on Bayan; a truck coming in from the Emirates goes through the same steps at whichever post it enters by. How used furniture and cars are treated, and any charges, are decided by Omani customs according to whatever rules apply when your goods arrive, and Al Rahwan looks at your case before loading so nothing surprises you at the border.

The big customs difference between one load and another is its nature: a family’s used furniture for its new home is one thing, new goods for sale are another. Do not mix the two in one shipment without declaring it, and do not write “miscellaneous items” instead of a real description; a clear list is the fastest route to release.

Prohibited items and items that need declaring

Neither truck nor plane will take a gun or bullets, drugs, fake branded goods, explosives, anything that burns easily such as a gas bottle or a can of fuel, or dangerous chemicals. A second group is not banned outright but cannot travel until it is named and checked, and may need sign-off: camera drones, walkie-talkies and other radio sets, high-powered batteries, medicine beyond personal use, seedlings and plants, and food. Customs has the final word on what is accepted, so mention these items when booking and before final packing, not after the cartons are sealed.

Insurance, tracking and storage for Riyadh loads

Insurance is never forced on you; add it when booking if you want it, and the cover is set by the sum you name as your goods’ value and by the photographed list, with the claims route explained before the truck is loaded. Good packing is not a substitute for insurance: the first lowers the chance of damage, the second compensates you if it happens. Tracking comes by phone and WhatsApp at four points: loading in Riyadh, the truck pulling into the Empty Quarter post, its release into Oman, and the day it reaches you, and you have a shipment reference to ask about at any time. Storage can bridge the gap when your Riyadh lease ends before the Omani house is ready, or after arrival if handover of the new house is delayed, priced after the survey according to volume and duration.

Booking steps with Al Rahwan from Riyadh

  1. Get in touch: call or WhatsApp 0568829975, or fill in the order form, giving your Riyadh district, the Omani wilayat and the type of shipment.
  2. Free survey: a visit to the home or warehouse, or a video call for small loads.
  3. Itemised quote: transport, packing, dismantling, assembly and any extras, each on its own line.
  4. Paperwork: documents, the Fasah authorisation and receiver details gathered and checked before loading day.
  5. Payment: part of the amount secures the date, and the rest is settled once the truck has been loaded.
  6. Loading day: dismantling, packing, numbering and loading, then signing the inventory.
  7. Crossing and tracking: a message at each stage until the load enters Oman.
  8. Delivery: unloading, placing and assembly at the address, and checking every piece against the list.

Delivery in Muscat, its wilayats and the rest of Oman

Most Riyadh loads head for Muscat Governorate, and the governorate itself is a set of spread-out wilayats: Seeb in the west near the airport, Bawshar and Al Amerat inland, Muttrah and Qurayyat on the coast. Within them, deliveries often go to Al Qurum, Al Khuwair, Al Ghubrah, Al Mawaleh, Al Mouj, Al Udhaybah and Ruwi. Each has its own character: the towers of Al Khuwair and Al Ghubrah need the lift booked and building management’s consent, the villas of Al Mawaleh and Al Udhaybah usually let the truck park at the gate, and the older quarters of Muttrah and Ruwi may need a smaller vehicle for the last stretch.

Governorate Centre and main towns Delivery note from Riyadh
Muscat The wilayats of Seeb, Bawshar, Muttrah, Al Amerat and Qurayyat, with districts such as Al Mawaleh, Al Khuwair, Al Ghubrah, Al Qurum, Ruwi, Al Udhaybah and Al Mouj 3–5 days; the busiest destination on the lane
Al Dhahirah Ibri The first large town after Ramlat Khaylah
Al Dakhiliyah Nizwa, Bahla 3–5 days via Ibri
North Al Batinah Sohar, Shinas Via the Empty Quarter or the UAE depending on the load
South Al Batinah Rustaq 3–5 days
Al Buraimi Al Buraimi The UAE route may suit better
North Al Sharqiyah Ibra 3–5 days
South Al Sharqiyah Sur 3–5 days, possibly a day more for remote coastal wilayats
Al Wusta Haima, Duqm One to two extra days
Dhofar Salalah A day or two longer; the longer road is priced in
Musandam Khasab By land only through the UAE

A photo of the entrance is sometimes more useful than repeating the town’s name. Send Al Rahwan the location pin, pictures of the gate, the ramp, where the truck can stop and the stairs or lift, and if the receiver is a company, its warehouse receiving hours and vehicle access rules. These details are agreed at the start so the plan does not change on arrival.

The cheapest way to ship from Riyadh to Oman

The cheapest option is paying for what you actually need and no more. For a few cartons and suitcases: the shared load, from SAR 110 per carton up to 30 kg. For some furniture: a part load from SAR 410 instead of a whole truck. For a car: the shared carrier from SAR 1,680 for a sedan rather than a dedicated one. Then cut the volume: sell or give away cheap furniture before you leave, do not ship old appliances that are not worth it, and fill cartons properly so you do not pay to move empty space. Book early so there is room on a load heading for your wilayat, and ask about offers when you call. Keep air freight for what genuinely needs speed.

Common mistakes when shipping from Riyadh to Oman

  • Booking at the last minute: the flat must be empty in two days, no papers are ready and nothing is packed, so time is lost at the border.
  • Forgetting the receiver’s Omani number: Bayan needs an Omani number; a Saudi one will not do.
  • Leaving things inside the car: the car travels empty, and anything left in it holds up its clearance.
  • Packing perfume and candles in the truck: the heat of the desert road ruins them, so carry them with you.
  • Comparing quotes on the headline figure alone: a quote with no breakdown may leave out dismantling, assembly or carrying up to the tenth floor.
  • Not mentioning the floor and lift in Oman: the crew reaches a tower in Al Khuwair and finds the lift not booked.
  • Mixing stock for sale with household goods: the treatment of the whole load changes at customs.
  • Not photographing pieces before packing: there is then no record of their condition if you need to claim.

The reverse direction: Oman to Riyadh

Al Rahwan also ships from Oman to Riyadh: for Saudi families returning after years of work in Muscat, for residents moving from Oman to the Kingdom, and for traders buying from Omani suppliers. The route is the same in reverse, through Ramlat Khaylah and then the Empty Quarter crossing, and the formalities mirror each other. Call the same number and give the Omani wilayat for collection and your Riyadh district.

Why Riyadh customers choose Al Rahwan for Oman

Because Al Rahwan’s trucks, ships and air partners cover the whole world, and Oman ranks high among the places Riyadh households and firms request, so work on this lane never stops and you do not wait weeks for a load to fill. Because it knows both routes into Oman and picks the right one for your wilayat. Because every riyal on the quote is tied to a named service, and your file is proofread in Riyadh so the truck is not stuck at Ramlat Khaylah over a misspelt name. Because the crew’s work in Muscat carries on after the last piece leaves the truck: unloading, placing and assembly come with every household move. Finally, the phone is staffed from 7 am to 11 pm daily and the web form never closes. Shipping from somewhere else in the Kingdom?
