Shipping from Jeddah, Makkah, Taif and Rabigh to Muscat, Sohar and Salalah: by road via the Empty Quarter crossing in 5–7 days, by sea for traders from Jeddah Islamic Port, or by air when it is urgent. A 20 ft container from SAR 5,200, an air parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 110.

From the Red Sea coast to Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa and Salalah, your load crosses the Kingdom from west to east in an enclosed truck, then keeps going over the dune road to Saudi Arabia’s Empty Quarter crossing (Al Rub’ Al Khali) and enters Oman through Ramlat Khaylah. On that lane Al Rahwan, a Shipping Company from Jeddah to Oman, moves furniture, cars, cartons, suitcases and commercial goods from any Jeddah district to every governorate of the Sultanate. Transit to Muscat and the northern cities is 5 to 7 days from loading to handover, with clearance at both borders already counted. The least you pay is SAR 110 for a thirty-kilo box or suitcase, SAR 1,100 for, say, a bedroom set, and SAR 1,680 for a sedan travelling among other cars on one transporter. Call 0568829975, or message the same number on WhatsApp, any day between 7 am and 11 pm; the online request form takes orders around the clock.

Of all the big Saudi cities, Jeddah sits furthest from the start of the road to Oman, and that changes how a shipment should be planned. The truck has to cross the centre of the country before it even reaches the sands of the Empty Quarter, so the goods spend more days on the road than a load leaving Dammam, and packing that is fine for a short hop is not enough here. The people booking this lane are a mixed group: an Omani graduate taking books and clothes home to Seeb, a resident family in Al Rawdah whose breadwinner has a new job in Sohar, a trader in the industrial area supplying spare parts to a workshop in Ibri, and a driver who wants his four-wheel drive waiting in Nizwa before he lands there himself.

Jeddah to Oman in brief

  • Route: Jeddah → Riyadh → Al Batha road junction → 564 km of Empty Quarter road → Ramlat Khaylah → Ibri, 161 km further on.
  • Timing: allow 5–7 days for Muscat, Sohar or Nizwa, add a day or two for Dhofar or Al Wusta, and expect an air packet within two days.
  • Odds and ends: SAR 32 gets a packet of five kilos or less on its way; SAR 110 covers a suitcase or box weighing as much as thirty.
  • Household moves: a single room’s furniture begins at SAR 1,100, a three-bedroom flat complete with appliances at 1,850, and an entire villa at 4,150.
  • Vehicles: SAR 1,680 puts a saloon on a shared transporter; a jeep needs 2,780, and a prestige car sealed inside a closed box 4,150.
  • Traders: from SAR 790 per tonne by road; a 20 ft container by sea from Jeddah Islamic Port from SAR 5,200.

From the Red Sea coast to the Empty Quarter crossing: the route a Jeddah load takes

There is no short way from Jeddah to Oman. The city is on the west coast, the Sultanate is in the far south-east corner of Arabia, and in between lie the centre of the Kingdom and then the Empty Quarter. The truck leaves Jeddah heading east across central Saudi Arabia to Riyadh, carries on toward the Eastern Province as far as the Al Batha road junction, and there joins the Empty Quarter road. That road runs about 564 km through the dunes on the Saudi side to the Empty Quarter crossing, whose administration falls under the Eastern Province. No other land border post links the two countries. Across the line stands Oman’s Ramlat Khaylah post, and Ibri, the main town of Al Dhahirah, lies some 161 km beyond it. So the international leg itself is roughly 725 km from the junction to Ibri; everything before it is a long domestic run from Jeddah.

After Ibri the loads split up. Goods for Muscat head east through Al Dakhiliyah or Al Batinah; anything for Nizwa or Bahla arrives early because those towns sit on the way; and Salalah is a long run south through Al Wusta, which is why it takes a day or two longer. One truck may carry three or four customers’ goods, so loading in Jeddah is planned in reverse: the last drop goes deepest inside, the first drop goes by the doors.

Why does a Jeddah shipment take 5 to 7 days?

The international road alone does not explain it. Three things make Jeddah two or three days slower than Dammam or Al Ahsa. First, the truck crosses the whole Kingdom before reaching the start of the Empty Quarter road. Second, small consignments do not travel on their own: they wait at the consolidation point until the Oman-bound truck is full, which can take a day or more depending on the departure. Third, clearance happens twice, once leaving the Saudi post and once entering at Ramlat Khaylah, and a missing paper at either one stops the whole truck. That is why Al Rahwan starts with Jeddah customers’ paperwork before their belongings: a day lost at the border is lost for everybody on board.

If you need a tighter date than that range, there are two ways to cut the waiting. Book a dedicated truck so your load waits for nobody, or have everything ready a day before the shared departure so yours is loaded first. By road, Jeddah stays a 5–7 day lane whichever way the booking is made; anyone who needs a day or two should fly the goods rather than truck them.

Ready to leave versus ready to deliver

When you ask “when will it arrive?”, separate two moments: when the load is ready to leave Jeddah, and when it is ready to be handed over in Oman. Before the first come packing the furniture, waiting for unfinished cartons and fixing a missing document. After the second comes agreeing an unloading slot with the consignee and booking the lift in the building. If your handover is tied to receiving keys to a flat in Muscat or starting a job in Sohar, give Al Rahwan that date when you book, and name a stand-in who can receive the goods for you. And do not book an independent carpenter in Oman on the strength of a general estimate; wait for the message that the load has entered the Sultanate, because that is what fixes the real day.

Transit times to Oman from every Saudi city

Collection city To Muscat and the north To Salalah and Al Wusta
Dammam, Khobar, Jubail, Al Ahsa 3–4 days One or two days more
Riyadh, Qassim 3–5 days One or two days more
Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Taif, Khamis Mushait 5–7 days One or two days more
Tabuk 6–8 days One or two days more
Cars Roughly the same as the collection city One or two days more
Air parcel 24–48 hours Depending on flights into Salalah Airport

When does a Jeddah load go through the UAE?

For Ibri, Nizwa, Muscat and Salalah the Empty Quarter road is the shortest way in, yet the Sultanate also has a land door on the Emirates side. In that case the truck exits at Al Batha, crosses UAE territory, and enters Oman through one of three doors: Hatta then Al Wajajah when Muscat is the target, one of the posts at Al Buraimi, or Khatmat Malaha when the goods are bound for Shinas and Sohar. Which of the two Al Rahwan uses depends on the town in Oman the goods are bound for and on what sort of consignment it is. Musandam, for instance, can only be reached by land through the UAE; Al Buraimi and North Al Batinah are sometimes easier from that side; and some consolidated loads share a truck with UAE-bound freight. The second route has more borders and more formalities, so it is only used when there is a clear reason.

Car shipping from Jeddah to Oman

A car from Jeddah reaches Oman in about the same time as furniture, 5 to 7 days to Muscat. It travels on a long multi-deck car carrier, strapped down at the wheels and covered. The car must be empty: no suitcases in the boot and no cartons on the seats. Customs treat it as a vehicle, not a storage unit, and anything inside needs its own declaration and can hold the car at the border.

Car shipping from Jeddah to Oman
Method Suits From
Sedan on a shared carrier Small and mid-size family cars SAR 1,680
Four-wheel drive on a shared carrier Jeeps and larger vehicles SAR 2,780
Carrier dedicated to your car Anyone who needs a date that does not wait for a full carrier SAR 2,400
Enclosed carrier Luxury, classic and low-slung cars SAR 4,150

Car papers before it leaves Jeddah

  • A valid istimara in the owner’s name, plus the owner’s ID or iqama.
  • Plates and a traffic export certificate: Omani rules ask for a certificate of export issued in the car’s home country, which for a Saudi-registered car means the Saudi traffic department, before it ships.
  • A bank letter releasing the car if it is financed or under lien.
  • All traffic fines settled before export.
  • A signed authorisation whenever someone other than the registered owner brings the car in.
  • Consignee details in Oman: name, Omani phone number and wilayat.

On arrival the car is inspected and then registered with the Royal Oman Police. Import conditions vary from one vehicle to another depending on type and condition, so the Omani rules that apply to your particular car are verified by Al Rahwan before you book, not once it is sitting at the border.

Before you hand the car over in Jeddah

Send the make, model and running condition, and say if it is very low to the ground or modified, because that decides whether it goes on a shared carrier or needs an enclosed one. On collection day the bodywork is photographed from every side, the mileage and existing scratches are recorded, and keys and accessories are counted. Take off the dash camera and anything hanging from the mirror, leave a little fuel for moving it around the yards, and keep the spare wheel and its tools in place. A photo of a covered car is not proof of insurance; insurance is a separate option you request at booking, on a value you declare.

Drive it across the Empty Quarter, or ship it?

Some Jeddah families consider driving to Oman instead. Fuel is only part of the sum: the desert road is long with services far apart, driving from Jeddah means days behind the wheel, and a car full of household goods needs a customs declaration for those goods. Anyone moving to live in Oman will have to register the car there anyway. So many people fly the family out of King Abdulaziz Airport and ship the car with the household in the same week, so that the furniture and the car arrive close together.

How much does shipping from Jeddah to Oman cost?

The cheapest thing you can send from Jeddah to the Sultanate is a packet of five kilos or less, from SAR 32. Next comes a box or suitcase of up to thirty kilos at SAR 110, then a bedroom’s worth of furniture at SAR 1,100 and a three-bedroom flat with its appliances at SAR 1,850, while a sedan riding with other cars starts at SAR 1,680. Each of those is a floor price for trucking to Muscat and the northern towns; what you finally pay is fixed once the actual volume and both addresses are known.

Item From (SAR)
Small parcel up to 5 kg 32
Carton or suitcase up to 30 kg 110
Urgent air parcel up to 5 kg 110
Per kg by road for goods (bulk, to Muscat) 5.5
Part load on a shared truck 410
One room of furniture 1,100
Small office 1,020
Flat up to 3 bedrooms with appliances 1,850
Villa or whole house 4,150
Dedicated enclosed truck (transport only) 4,200
Sedan on a shared carrier 1,680
Four-wheel drive on a shared carrier 2,780
Car on its own carrier 2,400
Luxury car in an enclosed carrier 4,150
Commercial goods per tonne 790
20 ft container (sea) 5,200

Some things cannot be priced until someone has seen them, which is why they are missing from the table: an air packet once it passes five kilos, each pallet by its footprint, the forty-foot container, a timber crate built around a painting or antique, taking down split units, days in storage, the insurance premium and heavy machinery. All of these come back as separate lines in an itemised quote once you send details, or after the free survey visit. Deliveries to Salalah and the far governorates carry an added charge for the extra road. Most months Al Rahwan has some offer on, so a quick question when you call can pay off.

Worked examples from Jeddah

  • A graduate going home to Muscat: three suitcases of up to 30 kg each (3 × 110 = 330) plus a small parcel of certificates and papers (32): from SAR 362 in total.
  • A family in Al Rawdah moving to Sohar: a three-bedroom flat with appliances (1,850), a sedan on a shared carrier (1,680) and four cartons of the children’s things (4 × 110 = 440): from SAR 3,970.
  • A trader sending seven tonnes of goods to Ibri: 7 × 790 = from SAR 5,530, before commercial clearance, which is priced by the goods.
  • A villa in North Obhur plus two cars: the villa (4,150), a luxury car in an enclosed carrier (4,150) and a sedan on a shared carrier (1,680): from SAR 9,980.
  • A few pieces and two cartons: a part load on a shared truck (410) and two cartons (2 × 110 = 220): from SAR 630.

Why two loads of the same weight can cost different amounts

A heavy box of tools and a light but bulky box of lampshades do not take the same space in the truck or need the same protection. A piece nothing can be stacked on, such as a glass table or a large painting, ties up more room than its own size because the space above it stays empty. That is why Al Rahwan asks for dimensions after packing, not before, and which items cannot take weight. Put these notes in your request: they say more about space and price than weight alone, and they stop the plan changing on loading day.

What sets the final figure?

  1. Packed volume or chargeable weight, whichever is higher.
  2. Method: shared or dedicated truck; road, air or container.
  3. The Omani city: Muscat and the north at the base rate, Salalah and Al Wusta with the extra distance.
  4. Services: dismantling and reassembly, wooden crates, air-conditioner removal, storage and insurance.
  5. Conditions at both ends: floor, lift, and how far the truck can park from the door, in Jeddah and in Oman.

The cheapest way to ship from Jeddah to Oman

If the date is not tight, a shared load is the cheapest option: you pay only for the space your things take, from SAR 410 for a few pieces. Cut down what you send first; much old furniture costs more to ship than to replace in Muscat. Pack small items into cartons of the same size instead of loose bags, because cartons stack and bags waste space. And book at least a week ahead so your goods make the next shared departure, rather than ending up with a dedicated truck because time ran out.

Collection from Jeddah districts and warehouses

Al Rahwan crews collect from every part of Jeddah: in the north North and South Obhur, Al Shati, Al Mohammadiyah, Al Naeem, Al Zahra and Al Basateen; in the centre Al Rawdah, Al Salamah, Al Khalidiyah, Al Faisaliyah, Al Safa, Al Marwah, Al Rehab and Al Aziziyah; in the south and east Al Samer, Al Ajawid, Al Hamdaniyah, Al Harazat, Briman, Quwaizah, Bani Malik and Al Kandarah, as well as Al Balad with its old lanes. Commercial goods and equipment are collected from warehouses and factories in Al Khumrah and the industrial city once a forklift has been arranged with the site.

Get the loading point ready before the day: a space inside the home to sort pieces, a clear path to the door, and somewhere for the truck to stand without blocking the street. The Corniche towers and some compounds set fixed hours for moving furniture and ask for a permit to use the service lift, so get the building management’s approval in advance. In Al Balad and the older quarters where a large truck cannot enter, goods are first shuttled by dyna or pickup to the enclosed truck parked on the nearest wide street. Those small vehicles never leave the city; only the enclosed lorry makes the border run.

Collecting from Makkah, Taif and Rabigh with the Jeddah truck

Someone living in Makkah, Taif, Rabigh, Bahra or Al Jumum does not need a truck of their own. A collection vehicle picks up from their address, brings the goods to the consolidation point in Jeddah, and they join the next shared departure for Oman. This suits small and medium loads, a few cartons or a room of furniture, and saves the owner the cost of a full truck. A whole house in Taif or Makkah is better loaded straight from its own door, so the furniture is not lifted on and off twice.

Furniture and household shipping from Jeddah to Oman

Moving a home from Jeddah to Oman starts with a free survey visit, where an Al Rahwan supervisor sees the pieces in person, works out what comes apart, what travels whole and what needs a crate, and estimates the truck size. After the survey an inventory is written item by item in Arabic and English, because that same list goes to customs on both sides. After that you get a quote broken into lines, with the haulage, the wrapping, the carpentry at both ends and any extras each shown separately.

Furniture moving from Jeddah to Oman

The furniture is then sorted three ways: pieces that come apart, such as wardrobes, beds and desks; pieces that travel whole, such as sofas and the fridge; and parts protected separately, such as glass, mirrors and marble. Every piece’s fixings, screws and hinges alike, are bagged and labelled with that piece’s number, complex wardrobe joints are photographed before dismantling so the carpenter in Oman can rebuild them as they were, and tape is never stuck straight onto gloss or painted wood, because it lifts the finish when it comes off.

Bedrooms and wardrobes

Big wardrobes are broken down into their doors and side panels; the panels are wrapped in corrugated board and then blankets, with spacers between them so they do not rub. A bed comes apart into headboard, base and sides, and the mattress goes into a thick, sealed plastic cover against dust and damp. Dressing-table mirrors are removed and wrapped on their own with cardboard corners, because a mirror left attached is the first thing to break.

The kitchen

Kitchen units are taken off the wall and numbered in their original order, and a marble or stone worktop travels on its edge, not flat, inside a timber frame if it is long. Each glass and dish gets its own sheet of paper and is then slotted on edge into a divided carton. Before dismantling, a plumber and technician must shut off the water and gas, and each unit is marked with its position on the layout so the reassembly in Muscat is not a puzzle.

Majlis seating and sofas

A fabric sofa is covered first with clean cloth or paper against the upholstery, then a blanket, then plastic wrapped loosely, because plastic pulled tight straight onto fabric traps heat and moisture and leaves marks. Leather suites follow the same order, with the corners padded more thickly. Arabic majlis cushions, bolsters and floor mattresses are bagged in large sacks numbered by room, and hand-made rugs are rolled on a tube, never folded.

Appliances and electronics

Empty and wipe out the fridge, prop its doors open for a full day so the inside dries, and it will then ride standing up. The washer’s drum is fixed with its shipping bolts where they still exist, or wedged with padding so it cannot rock. Televisions go into their original box if it survived, or a reinforced carton with foam. Factory packaging is never removed from new appliances: they are listed as they are, because customs treat a new appliance according to what it is, not what is written about it.

Air conditioners

Before a split unit comes off the wall, a technician pumps the refrigerant back into the outdoor section, disconnects the pipes and caps their ends against dust. The outdoor unit travels upright as it was installed; the indoor unit is boxed. Air-conditioner removal is priced after the survey by number and location, and refitting in Oman may need pipework that does not match the old house, so raise it early.

Glass, antiques, chandeliers and paintings

A glass table top gets two layers of board with corner guards and travels upright between two soft pieces. A chandelier’s crystals are taken off and wrapped one by one, and the frame goes into a box. For big canvases, antiques and anything precious a timber box is built to fit, and its cost depends on the size, judged at the survey. Before anything precious disappears under wrapping, photograph it; should an insurance claim ever be needed, those pictures are what you will rely on.

Suitcases, clothes and soft furnishings

Hanging clothes go into wardrobe cartons with a rail, so nothing needs ironing again. Suitcases are treated like cartons: weighed, numbered and listed with their contents. Blankets and bedspreads make good padding between pieces, but not for glass, because they do not absorb a sharp knock.

The dryness check before wrapping is sealed

Jeddah is a humid coastal city and the Empty Quarter road is hot desert. A piece of upholstery washed the day before shipping and not fully dry will come out in Oman smelling of mould and stained if plastic is sealed over it. So soft furnishings, appliances and cartons are checked for dryness before closing, and cartons that have gone soft from damp are not used. Add a “dryness checked” column to the packing list for the items that need it; small details are easy to fix before loading and hard to put right afterwards.

Because the heat inside a truck on that road gets very high, candles, perfumes, medicines and aerosols do not go in it: wax melts onto whatever is beneath, perfume can leak, and a pressurised can is a hazard in the heat. Carry these in your hand luggage or buy replacements in Oman.

Shared load or dedicated truck?

A shared load starts from SAR 410 and suits someone with a few pieces or a room of furniture; its departure depends on the truck filling up. Booking a closed lorry for yourself costs from SAR 4,200 for the haul alone, and it is the right call for a big house or a fixed deadline; it drives directly between your two addresses without stopping to drop anyone else’s goods. A three-bedroom flat is usually charged at its all-in rate, from SAR 1,850 on a shared load.

Shipping cartons, suitcases and parcels from Jeddah

People who are not moving a whole house usually send cartons and suitcases: a student taking books home, a visitor who bought gifts, a family sending winter clothes ahead of their move. Prices begin at SAR 32 for a packet under five kilos and SAR 110 per box or suitcase up to thirty; once the volume turns into stock, the truck rate is per kilo, starting at SAR 5.5 to Muscat. Al Rahwan takes a single carton as readily as twenty; there is no minimum, and the upper limit for one item is what two people can carry safely. Anything heavier is handled as furniture or freight.

Cartons and luggage from Jeddah to Oman

Number every carton and link the number to a short description of its contents. Keep glassware apart from books and heavy items, fill gaps with paper or cloth so nothing shifts, and protect suitcase handles and wheels with a cover. Remove old travel tags and previous addresses from luggage so they do not clash with the current shipment details. If you are packing for several family members, give each person a block of numbers instead of repeating a number on more than one carton, and if you add a carton after sending the list, update the count before booking. The difference between nine cartons and ten looks small, but it shows up when the load is matched at the border.

Online stores, dates and gifts

A Jeddah online store selling to customers in Muscat can group a week’s orders into one consignment and pay by the kilo instead of per parcel, then have the orders delivered to one address in Oman or distributed by arrangement. Boxed dates and wrapped sweets travel by truck once they are declared, since anything edible must satisfy whatever the Omani authorities require when it crosses, and gifts go on the list with a rough value.

Commercial goods and equipment from Jeddah to Oman

Traders have three ways to move goods by road: a part load, where your goods share a truck with other freight and are charged by the tonne or kilo; a full load, where an enclosed truck is booked for your goods alone; and pallets, stacked and wrapped, each priced by its size and weight. Freight starts from SAR 790 per tonne, a dedicated truck from SAR 4,200 for transport, and pallets are quoted once their dimensions and weight are known. On the paperwork side, the exporter supplies a copy of the CR and the sales invoice, lists what is in each package or pallet, adds a certificate of origin if customs ask for one, and names the Omani importer with full details.

Equipment and machinery

Describe the equipment, the number of units, the weight and the value, and say whether it is new or used. Send a clear photo of its base, any protruding parts and its rating plate, and say whether it needs internal bracing, a wooden crate or special lifting instructions. Then decide who loads and who unloads at each end: a sturdy pallet does not solve the lack of a forklift at the receiving address in Oman, and a wide warehouse door is no help if the road to it is too narrow for the truck. Heavy equipment is priced after this review, and the packing list is matched to the invoice before loading.

A sea container from Jeddah Islamic Port to Salalah or Sohar

Large commercial volumes have another route besides the road: a container loaded at Jeddah Islamic Port and shipped to the port of Salalah or Sohar. Budget from SAR 5,200 for a twenty-foot box; the forty-foot size is priced when you ask. Sea freight is worth considering when the goods are heavy or bulky and not urgent, or when they are going to Dhofar and Salalah itself, since a truck to Salalah crosses the whole Kingdom and then the length of Oman. But do not compare the sea rate on its own with the full road rate: add trucking to the port in Jeddah, handling and clearance at both ports, and delivery from the Omani port to the warehouse. Sea freight is for commercial containers, not household furniture or a few cartons, which are faster and cheaper by truck.

Air freight from Jeddah to Oman

When something cannot spend a week on the road, such as official documents, a device someone needs for work or a spare part for a stopped machine, it goes by plane out of Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz airport into Muscat International Airport, or to Salalah depending on available flights, and lands within one or two days. Up to five kilos, an urgent packet costs from SAR 110; heavier consignments get their own quote based on chargeable weight.

Shipping Company from Jeddah to Oman - A cargo aircraft being loaded with air containers on the apron at King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah bound for Muscat
Air freight from Jeddah to Oman

Airlines do not charge on weight alone; they compare it with the space the package takes up in the hold and bill whichever is larger. To convert space into kilos, multiply the three measurements in centimetres and split the answer by 6000. Take a box 50 long, 40 wide and 30 high: the product is 60,000, divided by 6000 that is ten kilos, so if the scale shows only four, you still pay for ten. That is why air suits small, dense items, not pillows or big light toys. Perfumes, flammable liquids, large batteries and pressurised aerosols are only accepted by air under the carrier’s conditions, so ask before you pack.

Road, air or sea from Jeddah?

Mode Transit to Muscat Suits From
Road (enclosed truck) 5–7 days Furniture, cartons, cars and goods SAR 32 per parcel, SAR 110 per carton
Air 24–48 hours Documents and small urgent items SAR 110 for a parcel up to 5 kg
Sea (container) Per the vessel schedule Commercial volumes to Salalah or Sohar SAR 5,200 for a 20 ft container

Documents required for shipping from Jeddah to Oman

To ship your own belongings or a household from Jeddah, your side of the file is a copy of your passport and of your ID or iqama, a list naming and describing each piece in two languages, and an e-authorisation you give the broker through your Fasah account. The Omani side needs the receiver’s name, a scan of the card they hold in Oman, whether citizen ID or residence card, and a mandate they sign for the broker on that side. A trader has a different file, and a car has one of its own.

Shipment type Documents
Personal effects and furniture Copy of the passport and of the ID or iqama, an item-by-item list in both languages, and the broker’s Fasah mandate
Consignee in Oman Receiver’s full name, an Omani mobile to register on Bayan, the address down from governorate to wilayat to district, the floor and whether there is a lift, a scan of their Omani ID or residence permit, and their authorisation for the broker
Commercial goods Exporter’s CR copy, sales invoice, a list of what each package or pallet holds, origin certificate if customs ask, and the Omani importer’s name and details
Car A valid istimara, the plates with their traffic export certificate, ID of the owner, any bank consent where instalments remain, cleared fines, an authorisation when someone else hands it over, and the receiver’s details
Air parcel ID copy, description and value of contents, consignee’s name and number

Write “Sultanate of Oman” in full on every document, with the city and wilayat, not just “Oman”, because the name is easily confused with another Arab capital spelled almost the same way in Arabic, and that mix-up can cost days if it reaches a declaration or receipt. Send sensitive documents through the channel your Al Rahwan contact gives you, not in a group chat.

Customs on both sides: Fasah in Saudi Arabia, Bayan in Oman

The Saudi formalities begin before the truck leaves Jeddah. Through your own account on Fasah, which ZATCA operates, you name the broker as your representative online, and that broker then submits the export entry on your behalf. When the truck reaches the Empty Quarter post, officers compare what is on board with that entry, and they may slit open a few boxes to look inside. That is the reason Al Rahwan seals cartons with tape that can be cut and re-applied without wrecking the cardboard.

Once the truck rolls across to Ramlat Khaylah, the goods pass into the hands of the Sultanate’s customs, a directorate general under the Royal Oman Police that runs an electronic platform called Bayan. The Omani declaration is filed there, and the physical inspection happens in the border yard; if the truck comes in from the UAE side, the same steps take place at that entry point. That is why an Omani phone number is needed for the consignee: it is what gets registered in the system. Any charge on second-hand furniture or a vehicle is for the Omani side to decide, applying whatever regulations stand on the day the truck arrives; nobody can honestly quote you a figure beforehand, so the broker looks at your particular case before anything is loaded.

Prohibited items and declarations on the Jeddah lane

The flat refusals are few and plain: drugs of any kind, any weapon or round of ammunition, explosives and anything that burns easily, gas bottles or fuel cans even when empty, fake branded goods and dangerous chemicals. After them comes a set of items that are allowed but must be declared up front and may wait for clearance: medicine beyond one person’s needs, drones, radio transmitters, oversized batteries, seedlings and plants, and anything edible. Customs decide in the end on both groups, and leaving an item off the list does not make it acceptable; it can send the load back for repacking or force a change of mode. If you are unsure how an item is classed, photograph it and send it before you pack.

Insurance, tracking and storage on the Jeddah lane

Insuring a Jeddah shipment

Cover is optional; ask for it when you book, and it is written against the value you declare and the photographed inventory. Read the cover limits, exclusions and claims procedure before the move, and keep the condition photos, the item count and the delivery receipt. If a piece arrives damaged, note it on the delivery receipt and photograph it before fully unwrapping it; that is what a claim is built on.

Tracking the truck to Oman

You get a phone or WhatsApp update at four points: loading in Jeddah, the truck reaching the Saudi border post, entry into Oman, and handover. In between, you can call the same number to ask where your goods are.

Storage in Jeddah or Oman

Your Jeddah tenancy may run out while the Omani house is still unfinished, or the truck may beat the handover of your keys; either way, goods can be stored before departure or after arrival in a closed warehouse, priced after the survey according to volume.

Booking steps with Al Rahwan from Jeddah

  1. Get in touch: call 0568829975 or send on WhatsApp the Omani city, your Jeddah district and what you are shipping.
  2. Send photos: pictures of the items, the count and rough dimensions, the floor and lift, and what needs dismantling.
  3. Survey: a free visit for homes and offices to assess volume; for cartons a description is enough.
  4. Quote: you receive it itemised, with the expected transit and route.
  5. Paperwork: you send the documents and authorise the agent on Fasah; the consignee in Oman prepares their details.
  6. Loading: packing, numbering and loading on the agreed day, signing the inventory and paying the deposit.
  7. Road and clearance: updates at both borders until the load enters Oman.
  8. Handover: unloading, reassembly and placing at your address, a count check, then payment of the balance.

You can send all the details at once through the Request a shipping quote page.

Delivery across Oman’s governorates from Jeddah

Jeddah loads reach all eleven governorates, and delivery includes unloading followed by placing and reassembly in the new home. If you live in a block of flats in Muscat or Sohar, speak to the caretaker or management before the day so the lift is set aside for the move at the agreed hour.

Governorate Delivery towns and wilayats Transit note
Muscat Al Khuwair, Al Qurum and Al Ghubrah; Al Udhaybah, Al Mouj, Al Mawaleh and Seeb; Bawshar, Ruwi and Muttrah; then Al Amerat and Qurayyat 5–7 days
Al Dhahirah Ibri, the first major town after Ramlat Khaylah Nearest delivery point
Al Dakhiliyah Nizwa, Bahla 5–7 days
North Al Batinah Sohar, Shinas 5–7 days
South Al Batinah Rustaq 5–7 days
Al Buraimi Al Buraimi May go via the UAE
North Al Sharqiyah Ibra 5–7 days
South Al Sharqiyah Sur 5–7 days
Dhofar Salalah One or two days more
Al Wusta Haima, Duqm One or two days more
Musandam Khasab By land via the UAE only

One shipment to two Omani cities

If the load is split between two addresses, say part to Muscat and part to Nizwa, do not just write the owners’ names on the cartons. Set up a separate group for each address, with its carton count, consignee and phone number:

What to record Example Why it helps on arrival
Destination code M for Muscat, N for Nizwa Cartons separated without opening
Number sequence M01 to M08, N01 to N05 Count matched against each consignee’s receipt
Drop order Nizwa first, as it is on the way Loading that keeps each group within reach
Address constraints Third floor with no lift, warehouse gate Right crew and equipment sent

Multiple cities may need a separate distribution run at extra cost, so it is agreed before loading, not after, and sometimes splitting the load into two shipments from the start works better if the dates differ.

And the other way: from Oman to Jeddah

The lane runs both ways. Anyone moving from Muscat or Salalah to Jeddah, or sending goods from Oman into the Kingdom, books the same way, with a quote once the goods and both addresses are known.

How to compare two quotes before you book

Put the two quotes side by side: number and size of pieces, packing level, transport mode, collection point, delivery point, dismantling and reassembly, what is excluded, and what happens if the date changes. One may look cheaper because it ends at a warehouse in Muscat, while the other includes delivery to your flat in Al Khuwair and rebuilding the wardrobes. Another may look cheaper because it leaves out clearance. Ask every company: is the price to the door? Does it include clearance on both sides? Are dismantling and reassembly included? Then you are comparing a defined service you can hold someone to, not a sales pitch.

Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Oman

  • Packing things inside the shipped car: it delays the car at the border and can get it refused.
  • A vague inventory: “household items” is not enough; the carton count and contents of each group are needed.
  • A non-Omani number for the consignee: Bayan needs an Omani number.
  • Sealing wrap over damp upholstery: Jeddah humidity plus road heat breeds mould.
  • Candles, perfume and aerosols in the truck: they melt or leak in Empty Quarter heat.
  • Booking at the last minute: you miss the shared departure and end up paying for a dedicated truck.
  • Writing just “Oman”: write “Sultanate of Oman” plus the city and wilayat.
  • Forgetting the car’s export certificate: without it the car cannot be registered in Oman.

Why Jeddah customers choose Al Rahwan for Oman

Because Al Rahwan treats the Jeddah–Oman lane as a long journey that needs planning from day one: it starts with the paperwork before the belongings, picks the Empty Quarter road or the Emirates route to suit your city, and packs for Jeddah’s humidity and the desert heat together. Prices are published as “from” figures and itemised before you pay, cars travel covered on a multi-deck carrier, and an urgent parcel flies from Jeddah in two days. Oman is not the only place Al Rahwan goes; its trucks, ships and planes reach any country you name, but the Sultanate is among the routes people ask for most, so departures are regular and the crews know the road.
