Al Rahwan handles dismantling, packing, clearance at both border posts and door-to-door delivery, at the same published UAE route prices with no surcharge for Makkah. On this page we will not repeat general advice about shipping to the UAE. We will talk about what is particular to Makkah: its districts and how we reach them, the Hajj and Umrah seasons and how far ahead to book, guests staying in hotels and furnished flats who ship their luggage, how the road runs from Makkah to Batha, and why air freight from Makkah goes through Jeddah airport.

Key Points of the Journey from Makkah

  • Route: east from Makkah on the main highway to Riyadh, then Al-Ahsa, then the Batha crossing facing Ghuwaifat.
  • Transit time: 3 to 5 days for general cargo and cars, 48 to 72 hours for parcels, 24 to 48 hours by air.
  • Prices from: parcel from SAR 110, carton from SAR 140, room of furniture from SAR 1,300, shared sedan from SAR 1,100.
  • Busy seasons: before Hajj, Ramadan and the peak Umrah periods, book well ahead, because slots fill up and traffic slows.
  • Air freight: Makkah has no airport of its own, so air cargo leaves from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

The Road from Makkah to the UAE

Makkah sits on the highway that crosses the Kingdom from west to east, so the truck does not have to head back towards the coast first. It leaves Makkah towards Al-Sail Al-Kabir, then Al-Muwayh and Al-Quwayiyah, and carries on to Riyadh, the main consolidation point for everything bound east. From Riyadh the road continues to Al-Ahsa and then to the Batha crossing. Saudi-side formalities are completed through the Fasah platform of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, then the truck enters Ghuwaifat in the UAE, and for Dubai the UAE-side clearance runs through Mirsal 2, the Dubai Customs system.

The journey covers most of the width of the Kingdom, so we never promise a delivery to the hour. Weather, drivers’ mandatory rest stops, congestion near Riyadh and border processing all move. What Al Rahwan does commit to is a clear delivery window, with a message when we collect, when the truck reaches Riyadh, when it crosses the border and when we deliver. Shipments from Makkah have a shorter run than those from Tabuk or Abha, but a longer one than those from Dammam or Al-Ahsa, and that is what the timings below reflect.

From Makkah to Expected delivery Note
Abu Dhabi and Al Ain 3 to 5 days Closest destinations to Ghuwaifat
Dubai 3 to 5 days The most requested destination from Makkah
Sharjah and Ajman 3 to 5 days About half a day after Dubai
Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah 4 to 6 days Northern and eastern emirates
Cars to any emirate 3 to 5 days Carried on a transporter, never driven
Small parcels 48 to 72 hours On the regular departure

If you have shipped from another city before, you will notice one difference in Makkah: collection depends more on timing than on distance. Some districts get tight at peak hours, and some need a small truck in first and the big one afterwards. So we agree a slot with you in the early morning or after the evening prayer, when traffic eases. That saves hours of waiting and keeps your furniture out of the sun while the truck stands.

Makkah Districts We Collect From

Makkah is a mountain city. Most of its districts sit between valleys and hills, so roads wind and slopes are common, and that changes where a truck can stop and how furniture is carried out. The district name matters less than the type of building, the width of the street and where the truck can park. Still, here are examples of the districts we serve. If yours is not listed, send us your location and we will tell you how we will collect.

Type of area Example districts Type of collection
Hotel and furnished-apartment districts Al-Aziziyah, Ar-Rusayfah, Ash-Shawqiyah Bags and cartons from rooms and furnished flats, arranged with reception
Family residential districts Al-Awali, An-Naseem, Ash-Sharaie, Az-Zahir Flats in buildings that often have no lift, and ground-floor houses
Newer districts and planned areas Al-Umrah Al-Jadidah, Al-Kaakiyah, Ar-Rashidiyah, Batha Quraysh Wider streets and easier parking for a large truck
Warehouses and trade premises Markets and wholesale stores Pallets and commercial cartons, loaded by forklift
Older buildingsMany have upper floors with no lift or only a small one, so we bring extra hands and dismantle large pieces before carrying them down.
Sloping streetsWe choose a parking spot on level ground where possible, and secure each piece while it moves between the building and the truck.
Hotels and furnished flatsWe agree the handover time with reception and collect bags with a list of contents to avoid any confusion.
Shops and warehousesWe arrange access with the market management outside busy hours, and load on pallets to cut standing time.

How Collection Day Works in Makkah

The collection team arrives at the agreed time with covers, foam, straps and spare cartons, so you do not need to buy anything. The supervisor first walks through the home or flat, counts the pieces, photographs them and notes any old scratches, then signs the list with you. The crew then dismantle and wrap, while the supervisor watches the loading to make sure every piece is in its place in the body. Before the truck leaves we give you a copy of the list and agree how you will follow progress.

In Makkah in particular we allow for the fact that the truck may have to park some distance from the building door, and that some streets do not allow long stops. So we bring items down in successive batches and keep a driver with the truck throughout. If you need building keys or an access permission from the district or the building owners, have it ready the day before, which saves a full hour of loading time.

If you live on the edge of Makkah or in a nearby town, we can consolidate your shipment with our Makkah departure instead of you paying for a separate truck, and we agree a meeting point with you if reaching your district is difficult.

Hajj and Umrah Seasons: When to Book

No shipment in Makkah behaves quite like one from another city during peak season. In the weeks around Hajj, in Ramadan and in the big Umrah periods, roads into and out of the city fill up, truck movement is restricted on some routes, and reaching districts near the central area becomes much slower. Demand also rises: many residents finish contracts or return home after the seasons, and visitors staying in furnished flats want to send home gifts and purchases.

Our advice is simple. Book at least a week before your collection date in ordinary times, and longer if the date falls inside a season. If your shipment cannot afford a delay, have it collected a few days before the season starts or after it ends, rather than on the first day of the rush. We will suggest the best slot from our departure schedule, and if a big truck cannot enter your district we collect with a smaller vehicle and consolidate in an outside yard.

Shipping Prices from Makkah to the UAE

The figures below are the starting prices Al Rahwan publishes for the UAE route, applied to Makkah as they stand, with no extra charge for the city. The final price depends on your district, the weight or volume, and the emirate you are delivering to. Every request gets an itemised quote, so you can see the cost of transport, packing, and dismantling and fitting if you ask for them, and nothing is added that you did not request.

Service Price starts from
Parcel up to 5 kg SAR 110
Carton up to 20 kg SAR 140
Bag or carton up to 30 kg SAR 230
Per kg (by volume) SAR 9
Furniture, room or studio SAR 1,300
Furniture, small flat SAR 2,500
Furniture, full flat SAR 4,100
Furniture, villa SAR 8,300
Sedan, shared carrier SAR 1,100
Sedan, open flatbed SAR 1,650
SUV, shared carrier SAR 1,400
SUV, flatbed SAR 2,050
Luxury car, enclosed carrier SAR 2,300
One pallet SAR 740
20 ft container SAR 2,300
40 ft container SAR 3,500
Full trailer (about 15 m) SAR 6,500

So how much does shipping from Makkah to the UAE cost? It starts from SAR 110 for a small parcel, SAR 140 for a carton, SAR 1,300 for a room of furniture and SAR 1,100 for a car. To put it in context: a family moving from a small flat in Al-Awali to Sharjah, with a sedan and three extra cartons of up to 20 kg each, starts from SAR 2,500 for the furniture, SAR 1,100 for the car on a shared carrier and SAR 420 for the cartons, so from roughly SAR 4,020 before any extra service such as storage or insurance. An Umrah visitor sending two bags of up to 30 kg each from a hotel in Al-Aziziyah to Dubai starts from SAR 460.

What moves the figure up or down after that is clear: the floor and whether there is a lift, how many pieces need dismantling and refitting, the volumetric weight of large cartons, the type of carrier you choose for the car, and the emirate of delivery. That is why Al Rahwan asks for photos or a survey before quoting, so the figure you see is the figure you pay.

Furniture Removals from Makkah to the UAE

Homes in Makkah have features that shape how we work. Many families live in multi-storey buildings with narrow lifts or none at all, and rooms are full of Arabic majlis seating, large wooden wardrobes and complete bedroom sets that only leave through the door once dismantled. So Al Rahwan starts every furniture move from Makkah with a quick look by photos or a visit, to learn the number of floors, whether there is a lift, the width of the stairs and where the truck can stop, and then decide how many movers and what equipment.

We follow set steps. We dismantle beds, wardrobes and tables and keep screws and small parts in numbered bags attached to each piece. We cover wooden surfaces with foam and stiff board, wrap sofas and mattresses in protective covers, put corner guards on glass and mirrors, and stand them upright. Then we load the truck piece by piece, heavy items low and towards the front of the body, and strap everything down so nothing shifts over the long journey.

Special pieces get different treatment. Chandeliers and glass lighting are taken apart, each part wrapped separately and boxed in stiff board. Carpets are rolled on tubes and covered in plastic. Arabic majlis seating with its cushions and backrests goes into protective covers and travels on top so nothing presses on it. Appliances such as fridges and washing machines need emptying and their moving parts secured before loading.

Air conditioners get particular care on Al Rahwan moves from Makkah. A split unit is dismantled by a qualified technician, who separates the indoor and outdoor units and seals the pipework; each part is wrapped on its own and refitted in the UAE on request. A window unit is taken out of its frame and secured upright in the truck. Screens travel in reinforced cartons with corner guards, and the fridge travels upright and is not switched on after delivery until it has stood for some hours.

If the flat is on a high floor and the stairs are narrow, or the lift will not take the bedroom set and large sofas, Al Rahwan uses a furniture hoist to lower pieces from the balcony or window, wrapped and strapped. Loading is quicker, and walls and stairs are spared from scrapes. The need for a hoist is settled at the survey, because it depends on the width of the street below and a safe place to set it up, which varies a great deal between Makkah’s sloping districts and its newer ones.

Size of move Price starts from What it usually involves
Room or studio SAR 1,300 About half a day of loading
Small flat SAR 2,500 One day with a small team
Full flat SAR 4,100 Larger team and full packing
Villa SAR 8,300 One to two days depending on floors
Packing team bringing wrapped furniture down from a flat in Makkah to a moving truck
Wrapping furniture and bringing it down from a flat in Makkah before shipping to the UAE

On sloping streets we bring furniture out in stages: piece by piece to a small vehicle at the end of the street, then across to the big truck. Loading takes an hour or two longer, but it spares you a struggle in a narrow lane. On delivery in the UAE we carry each piece to the floor you choose, reassemble beds and wardrobes, check that everything is back in place, and remove the wrapping with you.

Car Shipping from Makkah to the UAE

Al Rahwan carries your car from Makkah to the UAE on a transporter, not under its own power, so it does not cover thousands of kilometres on its own odometer or face dust and heat on the road. We collect it from your district or from a yard we agree on, photograph it from every side, record its condition and mileage, load it and cover it with professional protective wrapping. It comes off in the UAE in the same condition you handed it over.

Car type Shared carrier Open flatbed Enclosed carrier
Sedan 1,100 1,650 —
SUV 1,400 2,050 —
Luxury or classic — — 2,300

The shared carrier is cheaper and suits ordinary cars when your date is flexible, because it waits for a full load. The open flatbed gives a firmer date and suits you if you want to move without waiting. The enclosed carrier is for luxury, classic and rare cars that you want kept clear of dust and eyes. The car does not need to be emptied of everything, but take out valuables and personal items, and leave only the spare tyre and emergency kit.

Before loading we suggest a quick check: make sure the battery works, the tyres are properly inflated and the alarm is not going to sound, and remove any roof box or bicycle rack. If the car has modifications that make it lower than usual, tell us before booking so we can choose a suitable transporter, because ground clearance can decide which ramp it can climb.

  • Photograph the car before handover; we also photograph it on collection and on delivery.
  • Leave only a little fuel in the tank.
  • Tell us about any fault, leak or earlier damage.
  • Hand over the keys and the car papers needed at the border.

Shipping Cartons and Personal Belongings

Carton requests from Makkah are more varied than in most cities: a family moving to the UAE for work, a student sending belongings to a university there, an Umrah visitor who stayed in a furnished flat and left with purchases and gifts that will not fit in an airline bag, an employee at the end of a contract. All of them can hand their cartons to the Al Rahwan team at the door, and the shipment is charged by the carton, the weight or the volume, whichever is higher.

If you are shipping from a hotel or furnished flat, agree the time with reception, have the cartons sealed with the recipient’s name in the UAE written on them, and give us a list of the contents. We recommend strong double-wall cartons, heavy items at the bottom and fragile ones on top with padding between, and no carton heavier than 30 kg, so that it does not collapse under the load.

  • Dates and canned food should be wrapped well and kept away from paper items.
  • Clothes go in sealed bags inside the carton.
  • Electronics stay in their original boxes where you still have them.
  • Perfumes and oils go in closed containers inside leak-proof bags, and some are restricted.

Commercial Shipping from Makkah: Pallets, Containers and Trailers

Makkah handles a wide trade because of the number of visitors: clothing, perfumes, religious supplies, gifts, dry food and wholesale goods. If you export to the UAE, Al Rahwan has options depending on quantity: a single pallet from SAR 740, a 20 ft container from SAR 2,300, a 40 ft container from SAR 3,500, and a full trailer of about 15 metres from SAR 6,500. For small quantities you can ship by the kilo from SAR 9.

Commercial shipping needs a commercial invoice, a packing list, and the importer’s details and trade licence. We work with the customs broker to coordinate both sides: the shipment data is prepared in Fasah on the Saudi side and submitted on the UAE side through the customs system of the emirate of delivery. The more accurate the packing list, the less chance the shipment is held for inspection or questions.

Commercial pallets depend on good preparation: cartons of an even height, stretch-wrap that holds the load firm, and a label on every side with the recipient’s name, the shipment number and the contents. If the goods are mixed, such as perfumes with clothing and gifts, we separate each type onto its own pallet or into a clearly marked layer so inspection is not delayed by mixed lines.

Air Freight from Makkah to the UAE

Makkah has no international airport of its own, so air shipments leave from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, close to Makkah. Al Rahwan collects from your district in Makkah, delivers to the cargo area at the airport, completes the formalities there, and the shipment flies to Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah, usually arriving in 24 to 48 hours. It suits urgent and light items: official documents, samples, small spare parts, devices, and medicines with a permit. Furniture and cars belong on the road.

How Air Freight Weight Is CalculatedYou pay on the higher of actual weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight = length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000. There is no fixed price per kilo by air, because the rate changes with the airline, the destination and how urgent the shipment is, so we send you an itemised quote once we know the weight and dimensions.
Shipment By road By air
Documents and small samples Possible Best when urgent
Medium cartons Cheapest Only when urgent
Furniture The only suitable option Not suitable
Cars The only suitable option Not suitable

Documents Needed to Ship from Makkah

What documents do you need to ship from Makkah to the UAE? For belongings and furniture, an ID or residence permit is enough, with a contents list, a Fasah authorisation for the customs broker and the recipient’s details. Commercial goods need a commercial registration, a commercial invoice and a packing list, and a car needs its registration card, its plates and an export certificate. Al Rahwan checks the papers with you before collection day, so the shipment is not held at Batha over a missing document or a name that does not match the ID.

Shipment type Documents required Note
Personal belongings and cartons ID or residence permit, contents list, Fasah authorisation for the broker, recipient’s details and mobile number Write the recipient’s name on every carton, matching their ID
Household furniture ID or residence permit, list of pieces, Fasah authorisation, delivery address Number the pieces on the list as they were numbered at packing
Commercial goods Commercial registration, commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin if requested, importer’s details An accurate packing list reduces the chance of inspection and questions at the border
Car Vehicle registration card, plates, export certificate, owner’s ID, a bank letter if the car is financed, an authorisation if the sender is not the owner A financed car cannot be shipped without the bank letter
Purchases of visitors and Umrah guests Passport or ID, list of purchases, recipient’s details in the UAE For personal use only; anyone shipping goods for sale needs the commercial route

Customs at Batha and Ghuwaifat

Every road shipment from Makkah passes two facing customs posts: Batha on the Saudi side and Ghuwaifat on the UAE side. At Batha the shipment data is submitted electronically through the Fasah platform before the truck arrives, the broker matches the papers to the load, and the truck may be X-ray scanned or searched by hand. At Ghuwaifat the data is submitted to the customs system of the emirate of delivery, and the contents list or packing list is checked against what is in the truck.

Al Rahwan handles this whole file with a licensed customs broker, so you do not need to travel to the border or queue there; what we need from you is correct papers and an honest contents list. Personal belongings and used furniture are treated differently from goods intended for sale, and any duties or exemptions apply under the rules in force at the time of shipping. The broker explains them before departure if your shipment is commercial or includes new items in large quantities. Three things hold shipments up at the border most often: an incomplete contents list, commercial goods hidden among personal belongings, and a recipient’s name that does not match their ID.

Prohibited and Restricted Items

We do not accept narcotics, weapons, explosives, flammable materials, counterfeit goods or dangerous chemicals. Medicines, chilled food, large batteries and concentrated perfumes need special packing or a permit, and so do other items restricted under customs rules. We check the shipment when we collect it, and tell you plainly if any item cannot be shipped.

Insuring Your Shipment from Makkah

A journey that crosses the Kingdom from west to east deserves peace of mind about your belongings. Al Rahwan offers optional cargo insurance on request, calculated on the value you declare for the items and covering damage in transit under the terms of the policy. Peace of mind starts before insurance, though: the photographed inventory at collection records the condition of every piece, and packing and strapping reduce the chance of damage in the first place.

Our practical advice: declare a real value for valuable items such as appliances, chandeliers and hand-made rugs, keep photos of them before collection, and on delivery check the pieces before you sign the delivery list, noting any remark on it there and then. That is the basis on which any claim is built.

Tracking Your Shipment from Makkah to the Door

Your shipment is not left without news for 3 to 5 days. Al Rahwan sends you a message at every main stage: at collection in Makkah with photos of the loading, when the truck reaches Riyadh, when formalities are completed at Batha and it enters Ghuwaifat, a few hours before it reaches the recipient, and on delivery. Between these stages you can ask where your shipment is and what stage it has reached at any time, by phone or WhatsApp on 0568829975, and you get a specific answer rather than general phrases. If anything changes on the road, such as a delay at the border or weather that halts traffic, we tell you before you ask, together with the new expected time.

Short-Term Storage Before Shipping or on Arrival

Dates do not always line up. Your tenancy in Makkah may end a few days before the departure, an Umrah guest may hand back a furnished flat before their purchases are shipped, or furniture may reach the UAE while the recipient’s home is not ready or the lease has not started. For these cases Al Rahwan offers short-term storage on request, before shipping or after arrival.

Items stay in storage in their original packing, listed and numbered as recorded at collection, so nothing is dismantled or wrapped again, and they come out on your date and are loaded straight away. Tell us when you book roughly how long you need, and whether you want storage before shipping on the Makkah side or after arrival in the UAE, and storage is added to the itemised quote as a separate line that you see before you agree.

Should I Take My Shipment to Jeddah Myself?

Some people in Makkah ask whether it is cheaper to carry their things to Jeddah and hand them over there. In most cases it is not. Our prices from Makkah are the same published UAE prices, with no charge for the city, and collection from your door saves you the cost of a vehicle within the city, a long time on the road, and the trouble of loading and unloading twice. The one exception is air freight, which leaves from Jeddah in every case, and we take care of getting the shipment from Makkah to the cargo area at the airport.

If your shipment is small, a bag or two cartons, there is no need for a private truck. It joins our regular departure and is charged by the carton or by weight. If it is large, call us before you buy any packing materials, because we may supply the cartons and covers ourselves and show them clearly in the quote.

Steps for Shipping from Makkah with Us

  1. Call 0568829975 or message us on WhatsApp, and tell us your district, the type of shipment and the emirate of delivery.
  2. Send photos of the furniture, cartons or car, or we arrange a visit.
  3. You receive an itemised quote and a collection slot that fits our schedule and the season.
  4. We collect, wrap, list and photograph the shipment in front of you.
  5. The truck moves east to Riyadh, then Al-Ahsa, then the Batha crossing.
  6. Formalities are completed on both sides and the shipment enters the UAE.
  7. We deliver to the recipient’s door, carrying in and reassembling furniture if requested.

Delivery Across the Seven Emirates

After Ghuwaifat the shipments fan out: Abu Dhabi and Al Ain one way, Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman another, then the northern and eastern emirates. We deliver to a home or office door in any of them, and coordinate with the recipient a few hours before arrival so the building lift and parking spot are ready. The northern emirates and Fujairah usually take a day longer than the rest. If the recipient will be away when we arrive, we arrange another time or hand over to a person they name, and ask that person to sign the delivery list so you have proof.

How to Calculate Road Shipping Cost

For road freight you pay on the higher of actual and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is length × width × height in centimetres, divided by 5000. For example, a carton of 80 × 60 × 40 cm gives 192,000 ÷ 5,000 = 38.4 kg volumetric. If its actual weight is 15 kg, you are charged on 38.4 kg, not 15. That is why a large, light carton can cost more than you expect, and why compressing contents and cutting empty space lowers the bill.

How to Ship from Makkah at the Lowest Cost

  • Book outside the busy seasons, when demand is lower and slots are wider.
  • Join a shared departure rather than a full truck if you are not in a hurry.
  • Choose the shared carrier for your car if your date is flexible.
  • Get rid of old pieces you will not need in the UAE before the estimate is made.
  • Pack cartons well and reduce empty space so the volumetric weight does not climb.
  • Combine the shipments of family and relatives into one.

Common Mistakes When Shipping from Makkah

Booking at the last minuteIn the seasons a near date may not be available, and slots shift with traffic.
Not mentioning stairs or a slopeIt changes the number of movers and lengthens loading, so say so from the start.
Weak cartonsThey do not survive the vibration of a journey across the Kingdom.
Air freight for everythingIt raises the cost, and road is enough for most non-urgent shipments.

Yes. A qualified technician dismantles and wraps split and window units, which travel with the rest of the furniture and are refitted in the UAE on request. For high floors a hoist is used if the stairs or lift cannot take large pieces.
