The enclosed truck heads east across the Kingdom, takes the desert highway to the Empty Quarter crossing on the Saudi side, passes into Oman at Ramlat Khaylah and on to Ibri, reaching Muscat and the northern towns 5 to 7 days after collection, with border clearance included in those days. Prices open at SAR 110 per suitcase or carton weighing no more than thirty kilos, SAR 1,100 for a bedroom’s worth of furniture, and SAR 1,680 if your sedan rides with other cars on one transporter. Makkah’s customers are unlike those of any other city on this lane. They fall into two groups: visitors, such as an Omani pilgrim who came by road or air, bought rugs, copies of the Quran, perfume and dates for the family, and then found the airline bag holds barely half of it; and residents, such as a teacher at a school in Al Awali whose contract has ended, an employee of a firm in Al Aziziyah transferred to Sohar, a family in Al Shawqiyah who have decided to settle in Nizwa, a small business moving its office furniture. Al Rahwan handles the two groups in two different ways: the first by the suitcase and carton from the hotel entrance, the second with a survey, dismantling and packing from the front door of the home.

The route a shipment takes from Makkah to Oman

Makkah has neither an airport nor a seaport, so anything leaving it for Oman is either a truck heading east or a packet taken to Jeddah first to fly from there. The truck runs from Makkah toward Riyadh in the heart of the Kingdom and keeps heading east; at the Al Batha road junction it turns onto the Empty Quarter road, which strikes south into the desert for about 564 km to the frontier. The Empty Quarter crossing is the only land gateway linking the Kingdom directly with the Sultanate; opposite it on Omani soil stands the Ramlat Khaylah post, and some 161 km beyond that lies Ibri, centre of Al Dhahirah governorate. In other words, the desert road between the junction and Ibri is close to 725 km.

Road freight from Makkah to Oman through the Empty Quarter

From Ibri the load fans out: Nizwa and Bahla sit close to the road and are served first, Muscat and its wilayats after them, Sohar and Shinas from the Al Batinah side, while Salalah needs a long drive south through Al Wusta, which is why it gets extra time. Loading in Makkah follows that order: whatever is delivered last goes into the truck first.

Why 5 to 7 days from Makkah?

Because the road before the desert is long, and because a small consignment does not travel alone. Two suitcases from a hotel in Al Aziziyah will not fill a truck, so they join other people’s goods from Makkah, Jeddah and Taif until the Oman-bound load is complete, which can take a day. Then clearance happens twice: leaving the Kingdom at the Empty Quarter crossing and entering the Sultanate at Ramlat Khaylah. The readier the papers are before collection, the shorter that stage becomes. That is why Al Rahwan asks Makkah pilgrims for their passports and the Omani receiver’s number before it asks how many bags they have.

Grouping with Jeddah shipments

Makkah and Jeddah are neighbours, and departures for Oman leave from both together. A few bags and boxes from Makkah are taken by a pick-up vehicle to the consolidation point and join the next shared truck bound for the Sultanate, so the owner is spared the cost of hiring a lorry for a handful of items. A complete household in Makkah, on the other hand, gets a truck loaded at its own door, since carrying furniture to Jeddah and reloading it would mean lifting it on and off twice for nothing. Customers in Al Jumum, Bahra or Al Sharaie are collected the same way.

Empty Quarter or the Emirates?

Most Makkah consignments enter Oman at Ramlat Khaylah, the nearest point to Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, Muscat and Dhofar. But the Sultanate has other land borders with the UAE, and some destinations are better served from there: Khasab in Musandam can only be reached by truck through the Emirates, and Al Buraimi, Sohar and Shinas lie close to the Hatta–Al Wajajah posts, the Al Buraimi posts and Khatmat Malaha. In that case the truck leaves the Kingdom through the Al Batha border post. Al Rahwan decides the route once it knows the receiver’s wilayat and the type of load, and tells you before you book.

Car shipping from Makkah to Oman

A car from Makkah reaches Muscat in roughly the same number of days as the luggage: five to seven. It goes onto a long multi-level transporter, its wheels are belted down and it is covered before departure, and nothing at all is left inside. Many residents think the boot is free space for boxes; in fact a carton inside the car needs its own customs entry and can hold up the whole vehicle at the border.

The file for a Saudi-registered car

Oman requires a car to come with an export certificate from the country where it was registered, so if yours carries Saudi plates, have the traffic department issue its export certificate and release the plates before shipping. Along with that: a valid istimara, the owner’s ID or iqama, a letter from the bank permitting export if the car is on finance, proof that fines are paid, a signed note from the owner if a relative or friend delivers it, and the receiver’s name and number in the Sultanate. Once it arrives, the Royal Oman Police inspect it and then put it on their register. Because conditions differ from car to car, Al Rahwan reviews Oman’s import requirements against your vehicle before confirming the booking.

An Omani car that came to Makkah by road

Some Omani pilgrims drive their own cars across the Empty Quarter, and then one of them has to fly home unexpectedly and leave the car behind. That car is registered in Oman, not in the Kingdom, so its file differs from a Saudi car’s: it needs its Omani registration papers, the owner’s ID and authorisation for whoever hands it over, and whatever the Saudi border requires for a foreign car that entered temporarily to leave. Send photos of its papers to Al Rahwan before booking your flight home, so the file can be checked and anything missing identified.

Before handover day

Clean the car inside and empty it completely; take off the phone holder, dash camera and hanging air freshener. Leave a little fuel and check the spare wheel and its tools. At collection, photos are taken of every side and the odometer and existing scratches are written into a report you sign. Keep your copy, since it is your reference when you receive the car in Oman. Insurance is optional and requested at booking on a value you declare.

Umrah luggage and gifts: what Omani visitors send home from Makkah

Anyone visiting Makkah usually goes home with more than they came with, and airlines charge heavily for every extra kilo. The answer many pilgrims choose is to fly with only what they need and send the rest by road with Al Rahwan, so it reaches their wilayat a few days after they do. Each kind of gift is handled a little differently:

Collection from the hotel or lodging

Hotels and furnished flats around the Grand Mosque in the central area and in Al Aziziyah, Al Shawqiyah and Ajyad are crowded, and large trucks do not stop outside them. So a small vehicle comes to the hotel entrance or the nearest permitted point, and the bags are taken from there to the consolidation point. Tell Al Rahwan the hotel name, room number and your departure time, and have the bags ready in the lobby an hour beforehand.

Rugs and prayer mats

A large rug is rolled around a tube, wrapped in plastic and then a cloth sack, and never folded, because folding breaks the fibres and leaves creases. Small prayer mats are laid flat in a carton.

Copies of the Quran and books

Books are heavy, so do not fill a big box with them; a medium carton full of books can approach thirty kilos. Copies of the Quran stand upright as they would on a shelf, with paper filling the gaps so their corners do not bend.

Perfume, oud oil and incense

This is the gift that needs care. Heat on the Empty Quarter road inside a closed truck can spoil perfume or make its bottle leak, so perfume does not go in the truck. Carry it in your flight luggage within what your airline allows, or ask Al Rahwan about sending a larger quantity by air under the carrier’s conditions. Incense and oud wood are no problem, and are sealed in tight bags so their scent does not soak into clothes.

Dates and sweets

Dates in boxes sealed by the factory or shop go by road once listed in the contents, as do wrapped sweets, since food follows whatever the Omani authorities require at the time of shipping. Do not send dates loose or in thin plastic bags; heat makes them stick and vibration tears the bags.

Clothes, fabrics and prayer beads

Clothes, fabrics, abayas and prayer beads are the easiest things to ship: packed in a suitcase or carton and described in plain words on the list. Valuable items among them, such as rare prayer beads, travel in hand luggage or get their own small box.

Zamzam water to Oman: road is the safe way

The question Omani pilgrims ask most: how do I take Zamzam water home for the family? The practical answer is that the truck suits quantities best. Sealed Zamzam containers are bought from the approved distribution outlets, stood upright inside a strong divided carton, with the gaps filled so nothing moves, and the carton is marked top and bottom. Each carton counts as an ordinary carton up to thirty kilos, so from SAR 110. The quantity goes on the contents list, and the containers are never packed in the same carton as clothes or books, because any leak would ruin everything around it.

Air is a different matter: it follows the airline’s rules on liquids, their weight and packing, which can vary from flight to flight, so do not count on it for quantities before asking. The simple rule: one container you carry yourself within your airline’s allowance, the rest on the truck.

How much does shipping from Makkah to Oman cost?

Charges from Makkah to Oman begin at SAR 32 for a light packet, then SAR 110 for each suitcase or carton up to thirty kilos, and for household moves run to SAR 1,100 for a room, 1,850 when a flat of three bedrooms goes with all its appliances, and 4,150 for a villa, while the lowest price for a sedan on a shared transporter is SAR 1,680. Those are opening figures to Muscat and the northern towns; the final quote is written once your belongings and both addresses are known.

What you send from Makkah First price in SAR
Small packet up to 5 kg 32
Travel case or carton up to 30 kg 110
Urgent air packet up to 5 kg 110
Per kilo for goods by road in quantity, to Muscat 5.5
Space on a shared truck for a few pieces 410
One room of furniture 1,100
Small office furniture 1,020
Three-bedroom flat with appliances 1,850
Villa or house 4,150
Enclosed truck for you alone (haulage only) 4,200
Sedan travelling with other cars 1,680
Jeep or four-wheel drive with other cars 2,780
Transporter for a single car 2,400
Prestige car in an enclosed transporter 4,150
Commercial goods per tonne 790
20 ft container from Jeddah port 5,200

Certain items only get a price after their details are in: air packets beyond five kilos, pallets, forty-foot boxes, timber crates for an antique or large mirror, air-conditioner removal, storage, insurance and heavy equipment. Ask for them in an itemised quote or after the free survey. Road distance is added to the quote if delivery is in Dhofar or Al Wusta. Al Rahwan has offers running for most of the year, and asking about them costs nothing.

Sums for shipments leaving Makkah

  • A pilgrim family going home to Muscat: three suitcases, two cartons of Zamzam and dates, and a small packet of prayer beads: 5 × 110 = 550, plus 32, so from SAR 582 in total.
  • A resident in Al Aziziyah moving a room and a car: a room of furniture 1,100 and a sedan on a shared transporter 1,680, from SAR 2,780.
  • A family in Al Shawqiyah who want the car on a fixed date: a three-bedroom flat 1,850 and a dedicated transporter for the car 2,400, from SAR 4,250.
  • A small firm’s office with its file archive: small office 1,020 plus five archive cartons 550, from SAR 1,570.
  • A villa in Al Awali with the family jeep and two cartons of Umrah gifts: villa 4,150, four-wheel drive 2,780 and two cartons 220, from SAR 7,150.

What pushes the figure up or down?

The size of your goods once packed matters more than their weight; a light carton of pillows takes up as much room as a heavy carton of books. The transport method changes the price a lot: a shared load is cheaper but waits for the truck to fill, a dedicated one costs more but leaves on your date. The Omani town counts too, with Muscat, Nizwa and Sohar at the base rate and Salalah and Duqm further away. Then the extras: dismantling and reassembly, timber crates, storage, insurance. And finally the conditions at both addresses: a building with no lift in Makkah, a street too narrow for the truck, or a fourth floor in Muscat.

Ways to bring the cost down

  • Send suitcases and cartons by road, and keep air for papers and essentials.
  • Use cartons of one size, which stack without gaps.
  • Get rid of cheap old furniture before the move; shipping it can cost more than buying new.
  • Book early to catch the shared truck instead of needing one of your own.
  • Combine several family members’ belongings into one shipment with separate numbers.

Collection from Makkah’s districts and outskirts

Al Rahwan crews collect from every part of Makkah: Al Aziziyah, Al Shawqiyah, Al Naseem, Al Zahir, Al Awali, Al Rusaifah, Al Sharaie, Al Utaybiyah, Bathaa Quraish, Al Kakiyah, Jarwal, Al Misfalah, Al Zaidi, Al Nawariyah, Al Hajun and Al Adl, the central area and Ajyad by small vehicle, and beyond the city Al Jumum and Bahra. Each district has its own approach: older buildings in Jarwal and Al Misfalah have narrow stairs that mean large pieces must come fully apart, villas in Al Awali and Al Sharaie have room for the truck at the gate, and hotels and furnished flats need the checkout time agreed with management.

Your first message should name the district plus a street or landmark, say which floor you are on and if a lift exists, and if the building requires a permit for the service lift, get it before the day. Dynas and pickups are only used to move things within Makkah to the big truck; the enclosed truck alone makes the journey to Oman.

Moving residents’ and organisations’ furniture from Makkah to Oman

Al Rahwan moves homes of every size from Makkah to the Sultanate, from a student’s room to a family villa, and also office furniture for companies, small independent schools and other organisations. It starts with a free survey in which the supervisor looks at every piece, then an inventory in both languages naming and describing the items, then a quote with each line set out. The inventory is not just admin; it is what goes to customs at both borders, so it has to be accurate.

Packing materials a long journey calls for

A week in a truck crossing the desert needs tougher materials than a move across town: double-wall cartons that do not go soft, bubble wrap for glass and appliances, thick moving blankets for wood, corrugated board between panels, cardboard corners for mirrors and frames, sealed nylon bags for mattresses, and tape that can be cut and re-applied at inspection. Wooden pieces are wrapped first in a blanket and then in nylon, not the other way round, so plastic never rubs directly on the surface.

Bedrooms

Beds and wardrobes are dismantled, each piece’s screws and locks go into a bag bearing its number, and complex wardrobes are photographed before they come apart. Mattresses go into sealed bags, and the dressing table’s mirror is detached and wrapped separately.

The kitchen of a Makkah home

Kitchen units are numbered right to left before they come off the wall, their doors are wrapped in blankets, and a marble top travels on its edge inside a frame. Pans and plates are wrapped one at a time and packed upright in divided cartons.

The majlis and sofas

An upholstered sofa gets a first skin of clean cloth or paper, then a blanket, then plastic left slack so it does not trap moisture. Floor seating and bolsters from the majlis are gathered in large sacks numbered by room.

Electrical appliances

The fridge is emptied and dried a day before shipping and travels upright, the washer’s drum is secured, and screens go into reinforced boxes. New appliances stay in their factory packing and are listed exactly as they are.

Removing and packing air conditioners

Taking down a split unit needs a technician to pull the gas back into the outdoor unit before disconnecting the pipes and capping their ends. Removal is priced after the survey by the number of units and where they are, and refitting in Oman is agreed according to the new home’s pipework.

Glass, chandeliers and antiques

Glass tops are sandwiched in board and protected at the corners, a chandelier’s drops are taken off and wrapped one by one, and antiques and large paintings need a timber crate made to size, priced after the survey. Photograph valuable pieces before they are wrapped.

Office and school furniture

Desks lose their drawers and tops, chair legs are wrapped, filing cabinets are emptied and their drawers taped shut, and files are packed in cartons numbered by department. Printers and computers go into padded boxes. A small office starts at SAR 1,020, and larger ones are priced after the survey.

What stays out of the truck

Candles, perfume, medicines and pressurised sprays are kept out of the truck, since heat on the Empty Quarter road melts, spoils and builds up pressure in containers. Carry them by hand or buy replacements in Oman.

Shared load or a truck to yourself?

A few pieces need only space on a shared truck, from SAR 410, with departure tied to the load filling up. A large house or anyone with a fixed date books an enclosed truck alone, from SAR 4,200 for haulage, which drives from Makkah to their address in Oman without stopping for anyone else.

Busy seasons in Makkah and how they affect shipping dates

Makkah does not keep one rhythm all year. In Ramadan, especially its last ten nights, and during school holidays, the hotels and furnished flats around the Haram fill up, the roads into the central area clog, and some streets close to traffic at prayer times. None of this stops shipping, but it changes how it is planned: a pick-up vehicle may not reach the hotel door at peak hour, so a nearby meeting point and a time clear of prayers are agreed instead, and shared departures to Oman fill faster because so many pilgrims are heading home.

The practical advice for anyone visiting in those seasons is to contact Al Rahwan two or three days before the end of the stay, not on departure day. Send photos of the bags, the count and the hotel name, and a comfortable collection slot is set while the paperwork is prepared with you still in Makkah. Out of season, a single day’s notice is usually enough.

Omani students at Makkah’s universities

Students from the Sultanate study in Makkah, and at the end of each term or on graduating each of them needs to move books, clothes and small electronics, sometimes a bed and desk too if they rent a flat of their own. Three or four suitcases and two boxes of books fit easily on a shared load, at SAR 110 per piece up to thirty kilos. Original certificates and documents the student needs on arrival are flown via Jeddah or carried by hand. If several students from one building share a shipment, each gets his own block of carton numbers, so everyone collects his things in his own wilayat without mix-ups.

Cartons, parcels and online-shop goods from Makkah

Alongside pilgrims and residents, Makkah’s small traders and online shops send goods to customers in Oman: perfume, incense, rugs, prayer beads and clothing. A packet up to five kilos starts at SAR 32, a carton up to thirty kilos at SAR 110, and once quantities grow the road rate per kilo starts at SAR 5.5 to Muscat. Number every carton, write down its contents, keep heavy things apart from fragile ones and remove any old address. If you group several customers’ orders in one shipment, give each customer a block of numbers so each group can be handed to its owner without opening.

Commercial goods from Makkah to Oman

Commercial goods from Makkah travel by road by the tonne, from SAR 790 per tonne on a shared load, in a full enclosed truck from SAR 4,200, or on pallets priced by footprint. For large volumes that are not urgent, a container can be trucked to Jeddah Islamic Port and shipped from there to Sohar, Salalah or Duqm, the twenty-foot box starting at SAR 5,200. The commercial file consists of a CR copy, a sales invoice, a packing statement, a certificate of origin if requested, and the Omani importer’s details. Heavy equipment is priced once its weight, size and lifting arrangements at both ends are known.

Air freight from Makkah to Oman through Jeddah airport

There is no airport in Makkah, so air freight goes through King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah: the packet is collected from your address in Makkah, handed in at Jeddah, and flown to Muscat International Airport or to Salalah depending on the flights available, arriving in 24 to 48 hours. Air suits what is small and urgent: a forgotten passport, official papers, prescription medicine or a device needed for work. Five kilos or less of urgent post costs from SAR 110; heavier than that, chargeable weight sets the price.

Shipping Company from Makkah to Oman - A cargo plane on the apron at King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah being loaded with parcels from Makkah bound for Muscat
Air freight from Makkah to Oman

Chargeable weight is the larger of what the scale shows and what is called volumetric weight. To work out the volumetric figure, take the three measurements in centimetres, multiply them, and split that product by 6000. A 50 × 40 × 30 cm box comes to ten kilos by volume, and a 60 × 40 × 40 cm box to sixteen, however light their contents. That is why rugs and piles of clothes are not flown: their volumetric weight is high, so they go on the truck.

Mode Makkah to Muscat Best for Starting at

Papers needed for shipping from Makkah to Oman

A visiting pilgrim needs, to ship luggage, a passport copy, a list of what is in the cases and cartons in both languages, a mandate for the broker through Fasah, and the details of whoever will receive in Oman. A resident adds a copy of the iqama. The Omani receiver sends their name, the Omani number registered on Bayan, their address by governorate, wilayat and district, their floor and lift, a scan of their Omani ID or residency, and the broker mandate they sign.

Who is shipping What to prepare
Pilgrim or visitor Passport copy, contents list in both languages, Fasah mandate
Resident moving house Passport and iqama copies, an item-by-item inventory in both languages, Fasah mandate
Receiver in Oman Name and Omani mobile for Bayan, address from governorate to district, floor and lift, copy of ID or residence card, broker’s mandate
Trader or online shop CR copy, sales invoice, packing statement, certificate of origin when requested, importer’s details
Owner of a Saudi car Istimara and plates, traffic export certificate, ID, bank letter if financed, fines paid, authorisation for a non-owner

Every carton and every sheet should say “Sultanate of Oman” in full, plus the wilayat; “Oman” on its own can be read in Arabic as the name of another Arab capital.

Customs at the Empty Quarter and Ramlat Khaylah for Makkah luggage

The Saudi procedure starts in your Fasah account, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority’s portal, where you appoint the broker to submit the export entry in your name before the truck reaches the frontier. At the Empty Quarter crossing an officer compares the load with the entry and may open some cartons to see what is inside, so make sure the contents match what was written.

Then at Ramlat Khaylah Omani customs, which sit within the Royal Oman Police, take over the shipment on their electronic Bayan system, inspecting and clearing it. If the route runs through the UAE, these steps are done at that entry point instead. How used belongings, Umrah gifts or a car are treated in terms of charges is a decision for Omani customs under the regulations in force on the day the shipment enters; the broker looks at your case before collection and lets you know.

What cannot be shipped from Makkah to Oman

No shipment is accepted that contains narcotics, weapons, ammunition, explosives, flammable materials, gas cylinders, fuel, counterfeit goods or hazardous chemicals. Advance declaration, and possibly approval, is needed for medicines in large quantities, drones, wireless communication devices, large batteries, plants and food, including dates and Zamzam water in quantity. Customs are the reference on all of this, and hiding something does not make it allowed; it just stops the shipment.

Protecting Makkah luggage: insurance, tracking, storage

Insuring Umrah luggage and furniture

Insurance is an option, not an obligation, requested at booking on the value the owner declares and linked to the photographed inventory. If a piece arrives damaged, photograph it before and after unwrapping, note the damage on the delivery slip before signing, and tell Al Rahwan the same day.

Tracking a Makkah shipment

You get a message by phone or WhatsApp when the shipment is loaded in Makkah, when it reaches the Saudi frontier, when it enters the Sultanate, and on delivery day. You can call the same number at any time to ask about it.

Holding goods until the home is ready

A pilgrim who wants the goods shipped only after sorting out the house in Oman, or a resident whose lease ends before finding a home there, can store belongings in an enclosed warehouse before departure or after arrival, with the storage period priced after the survey.

  3. Receive an itemised quote with the expected departure date.
  4. Prepare your papers, appoint the broker on Fasah, and ask your receiver in Oman to send their details.
  5. On the day the crew or pick-up vehicle arrives, packs, numbers and loads; you sign the list and pay the deposit.
  6. Follow the messages until the shipment enters Oman.
  7. Everything is delivered to your address with reassembly, then you pay the balance.

If you would rather send the details in writing all at once, use the Request a shipping quote page.

Delivery from Makkah to Oman’s governorates

Makkah shipments are delivered in all eleven governorates, and delivery means unloading, reassembling what was taken apart and arranging it in the home. In apartment buildings the lift is booked with the building management before the truck arrives.

And from Oman to Makkah

The opposite direction runs as well: someone sending things from the Sultanate to relatives in Makkah, or an Omani resident moving to live there, books through the same steps and receives a quote once the goods are described.

Mistakes people make shipping from Makkah to Oman

  • Putting perfume in the truck cartons: the heat spoils it or makes it leak onto everything nearby.
  • Mixing Zamzam containers with clothes: one leak ruins the whole carton.
  • Leaving the packing until departure: have the bags ready a day before collection.
  • A vague contents list: “gifts” is not enough; write rugs, Qurans, dates, clothes.
  • Forgetting the Omani receiver’s number: Bayan will not accept the shipment without an Omani number.
  • Loading the car with cartons: the car gets held at the border.
  • Flying rugs: their volumetric weight doubles the cost.
  • Writing “Oman” without “Sultanate”: the order can end up somewhere else.

Why pilgrims and residents trust Al Rahwan from Makkah

Because Al Rahwan knows a Makkah customer is not one kind of customer: for the pilgrim, collection from the hotel, a divided Zamzam carton and straight advice about perfume; for the resident, a survey, dismantling and packing built for a long desert run; for the car, a covered transporter and a file checked before booking. Prices are published as “from” figures and itemised before payment, and messages reach you at every stage. The Sultanate is one of many places Al Rahwan reaches by truck, ship and plane around the globe, and among the most asked-for. Reach it by phone and WhatsApp on 0568829975, with online requests open at all times.
