A parcel up to 5 kg starts from SAR 110, and if you are in a hurry, air freight arrives within 24 to 48 hours. These are starting figures; Al Rahwan sets the final quote once it knows the district, the weight or volume and the UAE city the shipment is going to.
Shipping from Madinah is not like shipping from Riyadh or Jeddah. It is a calm residential city, home to local families, university students, employees and expatriate households, with older districts near the centre, wide new districts on the edges, and warehouses and wholesale shops in the industrial area. This page covers what is specific to Madinah: where we collect from, how we handle flats and villas, how we prepare your car, and how people in Yanbu and the surrounding area can ship with us through Madinah.
The route from Madinah to the UAE
The UAE has only one land crossing, Batha, so every road shipment from the Kingdom, whichever city it starts in, ends up there. What differs between cities is how far the shipment has to travel to reach it. From Madinah the truck takes the eastern roads towards Qassim, passes through and carries on to Riyadh, then turns east to Al Ahsa and on to Batha. It is a journey across almost the full width of the Kingdom, so do not expect Riyadh or Dammam speeds; it is closer to the runs from the west and centre.
On the Saudi side the procedures are handled electronically through the Fasah platform of ZATCA, and on the UAE side clearance takes place at the Ghuwaifat customs post. Al Rahwan handles both sides on your behalf, so you do not need to chase the crossing yourself. What matters is knowing that the real delay on any long trip is not the driving but the waiting at the border, which is why the paperwork is prepared at least a day before the truck arrives.

| From Madinah to | Expected delivery | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Abu Dhabi and Al Ain | 3 to 5 days | Closest to Ghuwaifat after the crossing |
| Dubai | 3 to 5 days | The most requested destination from Madinah |
| Sharjah and Ajman | 3 to 5 days | About half a day after Dubai |
| Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah | 4 to 6 days | Northern and eastern emirates |
On Al Rahwan’s long runs from Madinah two drivers alternate, the truck stops at well-known rest and fuel stations, and the load is checked at every long stop to make sure the straps are holding. In the hot summer months we avoid leaving sensitive items such as perfumes and electronics in direct sun while waiting, and we load so that they sit in a shaded part of the cargo.
Road freight by truck is the usual way to reach the UAE from Madinah and every other Saudi city: it carries furniture, cars, cartons and goods door to door without repeated unloading and reloading. Sea freight is used for large commercial containers bound for Jebel Ali port, and air freight for light, urgent items. You can also ship with Al Rahwan to any other country in the world by land, sea or air, with the method chosen according to the destination and the type of shipment.
Madinah districts we collect from
We collect from inside the city and from its edges. Some of the newer districts have wide streets and easy parking for trucks, while some districts near the centre have narrow streets and heavy traffic at particular hours, so for those we choose a truck of a suitable size and a quieter time of day. The table gives you an idea of what collection is like; it is not an official division of the city.
| Area | Example districts | Type of collection |
|---|---|---|
| South Madinah | Quba, Al Awali, Al Harra Ash Sharqiyah | Houses, family flats, medium-width streets |
| Al Aziziyah and Ad Difa | Al Aziziyah, Ad Difa | Residential blocks and villas, well-ordered streets |
| Eastern and northern districts | As Salam, Waraqan and the surrounding areas | Newer housing, relatively wide parking |
| Near the central area | Older districts around the centre | Busy streets: a small vehicle carries items to a larger truck |
| Industrial area | Warehouses, workshops and wholesale shops | Commercial shipments and pallets |
For people living in Yanbu, Al Ais and the surrounding area: there is no need to pay for a whole trip on your own. We collect the shipment, or you hand it in at our warehouse, and in Madinah it joins the shared departure to the UAE, so you pay the shared-shipment price instead of the price of a dedicated truck.
Before collection day we suggest three simple things that save hours: tell the building management or neighbours when the truck is coming so a space is kept free, book the lift if it is shared, and keep the corridor and entrance clear of parked cars. In districts with narrow streets we send you the driver’s name and number in advance so he can call you from the start of the street instead of driving around looking for the house.
Shipping prices from Madinah to the UAE
How much does shipping from Madinah to the UAE cost? A parcel up to 5 kg starts from SAR 110, a carton up to 20 kg from SAR 140, a room of furniture from SAR 1,300 and a sedan from SAR 1,100. Al Rahwan does not change its starting figures from one Saudi city to another, so the published price is the same for anyone shipping from Madinah. Every figure here is the usual minimum for the service, and it rises with extra weight, a more distant UAE city or special items; once we have the details we send you an itemised quote that shows what you are paying and why.
| Service | Price from |
|---|---|
| Parcel up to 5 kg | SAR 110 |
| Carton up to 20 kg | SAR 140 |
| Bag or carton up to 30 kg | SAR 230 |
| Per kilo for larger quantities (by volume) | SAR 9 |
| Furniture for a room or studio | SAR 1,300 |
| Furniture for a small flat | SAR 2,500 |
| Furniture for a full flat | SAR 4,100 |
| Furniture for a villa | SAR 8,300 |
| Sedan on a shared carrier | SAR 1,100 |
| Sedan on an open flatbed | SAR 1,650 |
| Shared SUV | SAR 1,400 |
| SUV on a flatbed | SAR 2,050 |
| Luxury car in an enclosed carrier | SAR 2,300 |
| One pallet | SAR 740 |
| 20 ft container | SAR 2,300 |
| 40 ft container | SAR 3,500 |
| Full trailer (about 15 m) | SAR 6,500 |
What pushes these figures above their starting point? Mostly three things: actual or volumetric weight above the limit, large or heavy pieces such as full wardrobes and big fridges, and extra services such as dismantling, reassembly and special packing for valuable items. On the other hand, your share of the cost falls when you share the truck with others. Give us these details from the start and the quote you receive will be close to the final one.
How to work out your cost by volume
For road freight volumetric weight is worked out as length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 5000. Take a carton measuring 70 × 50 × 50 cm with an actual weight of 22 kg. The volume is 70 × 50 × 50 = 175,000, and divided by 5000 that gives 35 kg volumetric. Since 35 is greater than 22, that is the chargeable weight, and at a price starting from SAR 9 per kilo its cost starts from about SAR 315. You will see that using a smaller carton, or filling the gaps with belongings instead of air, really does reduce the cost.
Another example: a family in Al Aziziyah moving two bedrooms, a majlis and eight cartons. A move like this usually falls into the small-flat category, which starts from SAR 2,500, and if they add a sedan on the shared carrier, that adds a starting figure of SAR 1,100 for the car. When the car and the furniture are booked together, the dates are coordinated so that both reach the UAE within a few days of each other, and the family is not left waiting long for one after the other has arrived.
Moving furniture from Madinah to the UAE
Most people moving furniture from Madinah to the UAE are employees who have taken a new job, families settling near relatives, or students and residents whose stay has ended. In every case we begin with a simple question: what are you actually taking? A lot of old furniture is not worth the cost of moving it, and we tell you so honestly before we agree anything. We sort items into three groups: what must go, what can be sold or left behind, and what needs special wrapping.
| Size of move | Price from | Usual completion |
|---|---|---|
| Room or studio | SAR 1,300 | About half a day |
| Small flat | SAR 2,500 | One day |
| Full flat | SAR 4,100 | A full day with a team of several workers |
| Villa | SAR 8,300 | One to two days |
In Madinah flats, many of them in multi-storey blocks, the lift and the width of the stairs decide how we work. If the lift is small we dismantle beds and large wardrobes and bring the pieces down wrapped; if there is no lift we price the extra effort into the quote instead of surprising you at the door. For villas the difficulty is usually the sheer number of pieces rather than access, so we inventory each room separately and number the cartons.
Before moving day an Al Rahwan representative visits you or reviews photos of the home to list the pieces and decide on the number of workers, the packing materials and the size of truck, so the team arrives on time with enough reinforced cardboard, bubble wrap, covers and straps. Furniture is wiped and cleaned of dust before it is wrapped, so grit does not rub against polished surfaces all the way, and strong packing materials protect the pieces from scratches and damp.
- We visit the site or review photos of the rooms, corridors and lift.
- We dismantle beds and wardrobes and keep the screws in a numbered bag for each piece.
- We wrap wooden surfaces and glass in protective layers and wrap mattresses and sofas in thick covers.
- Electrical appliances go in their original boxes or are padded to prevent vibration.
- We load heavy items at the bottom and fragile ones on top, and strap the load before departure.
- We hand you a signed inventory list and photograph the shipment at loading.

Many homes in the city have floor-level majlis seating, large carpets, wooden doors and heavy furnishings. Carpets are rolled on a tube and protected from damp and dust, majlis seating is folded and wrapped in thick covers with each set kept together, and doors and wooden panels are carried upright between sheets of cardboard rather than laid flat. These small details are what make furniture arrive as it left.
On a long road the load shakes more than people imagine, and a truck can arrive in the UAE with loosened straps if the pieces were not secured well. That is why we fill the gaps between items and use mattresses and sofas as a buffer between wooden furniture and the straps. At delivery the receiver checks every item against the list before signing, and if there is a scratch we record it on the spot.
In the UAE the furniture is carried into the new home and each piece is placed in its room according to the numbering, then beds and wardrobes are reassembled with the screws kept with them. So ask the receiver to decide in advance which piece goes in which room, and to book the lift or the move-in permit if the building requires one; many residential towers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi only allow furniture in at a time registered with the building management.
Car shipping from Madinah to Dubai and Abu Dhabi
With Al Rahwan a car is transported, not driven. Cars from Madinah gather at the loading yard, are lifted carefully onto the carrier, covered and strapped down by the wheels, and they travel east on it for the whole long distance, so no extra kilometres are added to the odometer and the engine is not strained. The car arrives within 3 to 5 days; once in the UAE it is unloaded at a yard near its destination and you collect it after inspection.
| Car | Shared carrier | Open flatbed | Enclosed carrier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan | 1,100 | 1,650 | — |
| SUV | 1,400 | 2,050 | — |
| Luxury or classic | — | — | 2,300 |
The figures in the table are starting prices in SAR. The shared carrier is the most economical, but it waits for a full load in Madinah or near Riyadh, so it can be a day late if there are not enough cars. The open flatbed carries your car alone, so it leaves on your date. If the car is luxury, new or a classic, the enclosed carrier protects it from dust, stones and passers-by, and that is what we recommend for anyone who wants no marks at all.
At loading we inspect the car with its owner or representative and record any existing scratch or mark in a photographed report. The car is then covered with a fitted cover over the whole body and secured by the wheels, not the body. On arrival the same report is used again, so any difference is documented in photos by both sides. Nobody is allowed to start or move the car during the trip except where needed inside the yard.
- Before handover: photograph the car from every side and note the odometer reading.
- Empty it of personal belongings; some people leave valuables inside.
- Leave only a small amount of fuel in the tank.
- Give us the car registration and the owner’s ID, and an authorisation if someone else will collect it.
- On collection, compare the car’s condition with the photos before you sign.
Because the car is leaving the Kingdom for good, it needs an export certificate and its plates handed in according to the approved procedure before shipping, and if it is financed by a bank, a letter from the bank allowing it to leave. Start this paperwork a few days before the shipping date, as it is what most often delays cars at booking, and the Al Rahwan team will guide you through it step by step.

Shipping parcels, cartons and personal belongings
Parcels are what most people send from Madinah: clothes for children studying in the UAE, gifts, dates and items for the family, and papers and supplies for work. With Al Rahwan a small parcel up to 5 kg arrives within 48 to 72 hours and starts from SAR 110. Anything above that is charged by the carton or by the kilo, and for larger belongings we suggest a bag or carton up to 30 kg, with prices starting from SAR 230.
- Use a new or sound reinforced carton and seal it with wide tape at the bottom and the top.
- Write the receiver’s name and UAE contact number on two different sides.
- Put fragile items on top with padding between them, and do not overfill the carton.
- Wrap liquids and perfumes in leak-proof bags and keep them away from clothes and papers.
- Put a list of contents inside each carton so the inventory is easy.
If you have only a few cartons that do not justify a truck, they travel on the shared departure and you pay for the space they take. That suits anyone sending belongings in several stages.
Food, dates and packaged goods are subject to the crossing’s requirements, so tell us the type and quantity before packing so we know whether they need special packing or original packaging. We also take care not to place strongly scented items next to clothes and fabrics in the same shipment.
Commercial shipping from Madinah
Madinah has an active trade in dates, perfumes, clothing, household goods and spare parts, and many of its traders supply the UAE. Al Rahwan ships commercial goods as one pallet starting from SAR 740, a 20 ft container from SAR 2,300, a 40 ft container from SAR 3,500, or a full trailer from SAR 6,500 if the quantity is large. The right method depends on the volume of the goods, not their value.
| Option | Suits | Price from |
|---|---|---|
| One pallet | A small quantity or trade samples | SAR 740 |
| 20 ft container | Medium-sized goods | SAR 2,300 |
| 40 ft container | Large, light-weight quantities | SAR 3,500 |
| Full trailer | A shipment that fills a truck by itself | SAR 6,500 |
Commercial shipping has its own paperwork, set out in the documents table below, and we go through it with you before loading, because an error in one line can stop the whole shipment at the border. For businesses and shops that ship to the UAE regularly, Al Rahwan agrees a dedicated arrangement for departures and prices based on volume and frequency.
For shop owners sending several product lines, we arrange the pallets by destination inside the UAE, so we do not have to open the whole shipment to take out one carton. Each pallet carries a clear label showing the contents and the receiver, and pallets are shrink-wrapped and strapped so they arrive intact on the long road.
Air freight from Madinah to the UAE
Al Rahwan’s air freight leaves from Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport for Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, and usually arrives within 24 to 48 hours. It is best for documents, samples, small devices and urgent spare parts; furniture, cars and heavy quantities belong on the road. Because Madinah is relatively far from the UAE, the time gap between air and road is clear, and worth the cost when the deadline matters most.
Example: a box of samples measuring 50 × 40 × 30 cm with an actual weight of 6 kg. Its volume is 60,000 cm³, and divided by 6000 that gives a volumetric weight of 10 kg, so it is charged at 10 kg, not 6. If you split the samples into two smaller, tightly packed boxes, the volumetric weight would fall and the cost with it.

When should you choose air? When the item is light and urgent and its value is greater than the cost difference, such as a sample for a client, a spare part that is holding up production, or official papers. When should you choose road? When the shipment is large or heavy, when time is comfortable, or when you are moving furniture or a car. You can also combine the two: send the essentials by air now and the rest by road within days.
Documents required for shipping from Madinah to the UAE
What documents do you need to ship from Madinah to the UAE? For belongings and furniture, the sender’s ID or iqama, a list of contents or pieces, a Fasah authorisation for the clearing agent, and the receiver’s details and address are enough. Commercial goods need a commercial register, commercial invoice, packing list and a certificate of origin on request, and a car needs its registration, plates, an export certificate and a bank letter if it is financed. Al Rahwan reviews the paperwork with you before loading, in line with the regulations in force at the time of shipping.
| Shipment type | Documents required | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Personal belongings and cartons | ID or iqama, list of contents, Fasah authorisation for the clearing agent, receiver’s details and mobile number | Put a list in each carton that matches the declaration |
| Household furniture | ID or iqama, list of pieces, Fasah authorisation, delivery address | The list of pieces is drawn up with the numbering on packing day |
| Commercial goods | Commercial register, commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin on request, importer’s details | Any error in the invoice or list stops the shipment at the crossing |
| Car | Car registration, plates, export certificate, owner’s ID, bank letter if the car is financed, authorisation if the sender is not the owner | Start the export certificate a few days before shipping |
Customs at the Batha and Ghuwaifat crossings
Every road shipment from Madinah to the UAE goes through two stages: leaving through the Saudi Batha crossing, then entering through the UAE Ghuwaifat crossing. At Batha the shipment’s declaration is submitted electronically through Fasah, the contents are matched against the list, and the truck may be X-rayed or searched by hand. At Ghuwaifat the documents and contents are checked again, and customs duties on commercial goods are calculated according to the regulations in force at the time of shipping.
Personal belongings and used furniture are usually treated differently from commercial goods, but that depends on a clear declaration and on quantities that match personal use. That is why Al Rahwan asks for an honest, detailed list: twenty items of the same kind in one carton may be treated as goods. Al Rahwan’s licensed clearing agent handles the procedures at both crossings and only contacts you if an extra document is requested.
Prohibited and restricted items
Al Rahwan does not accept narcotics, weapons, explosives, flammable materials, counterfeit goods or hazardous chemicals. Medicines, refrigerated goods and large batteries need a permit or special handling, and concentrated perfumes are packed in a particular way. If you are unsure about an item, ask us before packing, because that is cheaper than repacking.
Things people in Madinah often send include Zamzam water, dates, oud and incense. These usually ship without trouble if they are in sealed containers and listed with their quantities in the declaration. Medicines should travel with their prescription, while gas cylinders, petrol and flammable paints are never loaded, so drain appliances such as generators and garden tools before handover.
Insurance on your shipment
When you book, Al Rahwan asks for an estimated value of valuable items, and you can insure the whole shipment or particular pieces such as appliances, antiques and luxury cars, with the cost of insurance shown as a separate line in the itemised quote. Insurance does not replace good packing, but it protects your rights in the rare cases where something goes wrong. The signed inventory and the photos taken at loading and delivery are what any claim relies on, so keep your copy until you have checked every item in the UAE.
Tracking and following your shipment
Al Rahwan sends you updates at four points: at collection in Madinah, when the shipment leaves through Batha, when it enters through Ghuwaifat and at delivery. If you want to know the shipment’s stage at any time, call 0568829975 or message us on WhatsApp on the same number; customer service takes calls from 7 am to 11 pm. A day before arrival the driver or the office calls the receiver in the UAE to agree a delivery time.
Storage before shipping or on arrival
Sometimes the Madinah home has to be handed back before the UAE home is ready, or the furniture arrives before the receiver has the keys to the new flat. For these cases Al Rahwan offers short-term storage on request: the shipment is kept wrapped and numbered in a closed warehouse before it leaves Madinah, or stored after arrival until the receiver is ready, then delivered to the address on the new date. Tell us you need storage when you book, so we can reserve the space and add it to the quote as a separate line.
When to book and who usually ships from Madinah
Demand from Madinah repeats at known times: the end of the school year, employees moving between jobs, and the long holidays when people send belongings before travelling. At those times shared departures fill faster, so it is best to book at least a week ahead, and two weeks if you have a full household or a car. In quiet periods we can usually collect within two or three days of your call.
Our customers in Madinah include families who have moved to the UAE for work, students who send their things before term, residents who have finished their jobs and are returning home via the UAE, and small traders supplying goods. Each has a different need, so we do not treat them with one template: we ask the purpose before suggesting the service, since a single parcel may be all you need and a full removal truck would be a waste.

Delivery across the seven emirates
After the crossing Al Rahwan distributes shipments to all seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain shipments arrive first because of their closeness to Ghuwaifat, then Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman, and the northern and eastern emirates take an extra day. We call the receiver before arrival so someone is at the address.
The arrival service in the UAE does not stop at the door: the team carries the furniture in, places it in its rooms and reassembles the beds and wardrobes, and a parcel or carton is handed over in person against the receiver’s signature. Make sure the receiver has an Emirates ID or passport ready, that the mobile number works, and that the address includes the area, street and building or villa number; that alone saves hours of searching on delivery day.
How to ship from Madinah as cheaply as possible
- Choose the shared departure if the date is not urgent; it is cheaper than a dedicated truck.
- Combine your cartons into one shipment instead of sending them separately.
- Move less old, low-value furniture; selling it locally is cheaper.
- Choose the shared carrier for your car if you can wait an extra day.
- Give us the true dimensions so the shipment is not charged larger than it is.
- If you are in Yanbu or Al Ais, combine your shipment with another so it joins the Madinah departure.
Common mistakes when shipping from Madinah
- Wrapping wooden furniture before it is fully dry, so the covers trap moisture.
- Leaving valuables or important papers inside the shipped car.
- Relying on a verbal price without an itemised quote.
- Writing an incomplete UAE address or giving a receiver number that does not work.
- Hiding a restricted item inside a carton, which delays the whole shipment at inspection.
- Leaving the paperwork until the day of shipping.
- Leaving the car’s export certificate or bank letter until loading day.
- Forgetting to book the building lift or the move-in permit for a residential tower in the UAE.
