Al-Ahsa is in a position most Saudi cities are not: it sits on the very road that trucks take to Batha, so your shipment does not cross the Kingdom first and then double back, but heads south-east straight for the border. That is why small parcels arrive in 48 to 72 hours, and a parcel up to 5 kg starts from SAR 110. This page is about Al-Ahsa itself: how we reach the old houses of Hofuf and the rest houses tucked between farms, what we do with wooden furniture in homes surrounded by palms, how a car is loaded away from the dust of farm tracks, and how living so close to the border works in your favour.

The Al-Ahsa Stop

  • Position on the route: Al-Ahsa lies on the Riyadh to Batha line, so there is no extra distance and no detour.
  • Transit time: 2 to 3 days for general cargo, 3 to 5 for cars and 24 to 48 hours by air.
  • Prices from: parcel from SAR 110, carton from SAR 140, room of furniture from SAR 1,300, shared sedan from SAR 1,100.
  • Collection: Hofuf, Al Mubarraz, Al Omran, Al Oyun and the towns around the oasis.
  • Quote: an itemised quote once we know the volume and the address.

How a shipment gets from Al-Ahsa to the UAE

The road from Al-Ahsa to the UAE is clear and relatively short compared with cities in the west and north. The shipment is loaded in Hofuf or at a warehouse nearby, and the truck leaves the oasis on the south-eastern road that leads to the Batha crossing, which faces Ghuwaifat on the UAE side. It is the only land crossing between the two countries, so every road shipment goes through it whichever city it starts from. At the same time, trucks coming from Riyadh and the east of the Kingdom pass through Al-Ahsa on their way, which is why shared departures run close together and keep costs down for people with small shipments.

The paperwork runs on two tracks. On the Saudi side the shipment is registered on Fasah, the platform of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, and on the UAE side it is cleared through Mirsal 2 at Dubai Customs, or the equivalent in the emirate concerned. Al Rahwan coordinates both tracks through a customs broker, so all you are asked for is an accurate list of contents and a valid ID.

From Al-Ahsa to Expected delivery Note
Abu Dhabi and Al Ain 2 to 3 days Closest to Ghuwaifat
Dubai 2 to 3 days The most requested destination from Al-Ahsa
Sharjah and Ajman 2 to 3 days About half a day after Dubai
Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah 3 to 4 days The northern and eastern emirates

Being close to the border means the shipment does not spend long on the road, but it does not mean the time can be counted in hours. Queues at the crossing and inspection times change from day to day, so we give you a realistic window and update you when the truck leaves the Kingdom and when it enters the UAE.

What the journey looks like, day by day

On day one we arrive at the address at the agreed time, in the morning before the heat builds, then pack, load and make an inventory, and the shipment moves to the consolidation point where it joins the truck bound for the border. On day two the truck reaches Batha and the exit and entry procedures begin, the stage whose length varies most. On day three the shipment is usually delivered in the emirate concerned. This is a rough picture and not a promise to the hour, but it gives you an idea of what to expect.

Summer in Al-Ahsa is very hot, so for wooden furniture, appliances and heat-sensitive cars we prefer to load early in the morning or after the afternoon prayer, and we make sure items are not left in direct sun for long before they go into the truck.

The districts and towns of Al-Ahsa we collect from

Al-Ahsa is not one city but a sprawling oasis of cities and towns linked by farm roads. Hofuf is the old and administrative centre, Al Mubarraz is a large commercial city close by, and around and between them lie Al Omran, Al Oyun and other towns ringed by farms. Each area calls for a different way of collecting, and we choose the right truck once we know the address, not before.

Area Examples Type of collection
Hofuf Old quarters and newer villa districts Narrow lanes in the old parts, villas with wide parking in the new
Al Mubarraz Residential districts, the dates market and shopping streets Flats and apartment blocks, small commercial shipments
Al Omran The town and its outskirts Houses and villas among the farms
Al Oyun The town and neighbouring villages Farm roads, sometimes a small truck for gathering
Industrial area Factories and warehouses Pallets, containers and full trucks
Old houses in HofufThe lanes are too tight for large trucks, so we start with a small vehicle that carries items out to the big truck at the nearest wide street.
Rest houses and farmsThe tracks are sometimes unpaved and the entrances narrow, so we agree a loading point with you in advance that the truck can reach safely.
Mubarraz apartment blocksThese usually need a booked lift and a word with the doorman before loading day.

People in the outlying villages of the oasis do not need a whole truck for a small shipment. We gather cartons from several points on the same day and they all leave on one departure, so each customer pays only their share of the trip.

Another feature of Al-Ahsa is that many families have a house in Hofuf or Al Mubarraz and a farm or rest house on the edge of the oasis, so a move can be split across two sites. That is no problem: if we agree it in advance we load from the first and then the second on the same day, and the pieces are merged into one shipment with a single inventory, so you do not pay for two trips.

Shipping prices from Al-Ahsa to the UAE

How much does shipping from Al-Ahsa to the UAE cost? Al Rahwan’s prices start from SAR 110 for a parcel up to 5 kg, SAR 140 for a carton up to 20 kg, SAR 1,300 for a room of furniture and SAR 1,100 for a sedan on a shared carrier, the same figures published for the UAE route from any city. After that, the quote is set according to weight or volume, the floor and the UAE city, and it reaches you itemised, so you can see what you pay for loading and what you pay for transport.

Worked examples from Al-Ahsa

A student in Al Mubarraz sends 3 cartons of 18 kg each to Sharjah: each carton falls in the up-to-20 kg band, which starts from SAR 140, so the total starts from SAR 420 before door collection is added. An employee in Hofuf moves a bedroom of furniture together with a sedan to Abu Dhabi: the furniture starts from SAR 1,300 and the car on a shared carrier from SAR 1,100, so the total starts from SAR 2,400. A date trader in Al Oyun sends two pallets to Dubai: a pallet starts from SAR 740, so the two start from SAR 1,480. These are starting points to help you plan; the final figure depends on the real volume and the address in the UAE.

Moving furniture from Al-Ahsa: big houses, palms and wood that needs care

Many Al-Ahsa homes are roomier than those in the big cities: multi-storey villas, separate majlis rooms and annexes in the courtyard. A single move can include a whole majlis, bedrooms, kitchen units and a store on the roof. So the Al Rahwan team does not size a large villa over the phone alone. It asks for photos of every room or calls round for a survey, and that gives us the real number of pieces, workers and hours.

Flats in Al Mubarraz and Hofuf are lighter work, but they call for a booked lift or an agreement on bringing large pieces down the stairs. Wooden wardrobes and big beds are dismantled before they come down, and we number the screws and parts in labelled bags and reassemble at delivery if you ask us to.

Size of move Price from Note
Room or studio SAR 1,300 Loaded in half a day
Small flat SAR 2,500 One day
Full flat SAR 4,100 Team of four workers
Villa SAR 8,300 One to two days depending on the pieces

The Al-Ahsa majlis has its own demands: floor seating sets, carved wooden doorways and large carpets. Carpets are rolled, never folded, carved doors and frames are wrapped with corner guards, and cushions and mattresses are bagged separately so they do not pick up smoke or dust on the road.

Electrical appliances are a sizeable part of any Al-Ahsa move, especially split air conditioners, large fridges and heavy-load washing machines. An air conditioner is drained of gas properly and its two units are carried separately, a fridge travels upright and is left to stand for some hours before being switched on in the UAE, and a washing machine’s drum is secured with its original transit bolts if you still have them. These are small details, but they separate an appliance that works the moment it arrives from one that needs a technician.

  1. We visit the house or receive photos of the rooms, count the pieces and flag the fragile ones.
  2. We dismantle wardrobes and beds, number the parts and keep the screws in labelled bags.
  3. We wrap wood and leather in breathable covers, and glass and mirrors in rigid board with corner guards.
  4. We load the heaviest items at the bottom, strap everything down and pad the gaps.
  5. We photograph the load before the door is closed and give you a numbered list.
  6. On delivery in the UAE we place the pieces in their rooms and reassemble what we agreed to reassemble.

Many families moving to the UAE ship their furniture and their car together. In that case we coordinate the two dates so that the car and the furniture arrive within a day or two of each other, and you are not left without a car for a week waiting for the household shipment. Mention it when you order and we will put it in the schedule.

Car shipping from Al-Ahsa to Dubai and Abu Dhabi

A car is not driven to the UAE; Al Rahwan carries it on a transporter that arrives in 3 to 5 days. Cars gather at a yard near Hofuf, are photographed and their condition is recorded, and they are loaded under covers onto the carrier heading for Batha. Al-Ahsa cars need particular care over dust: many of them run on farm and unpaved roads, so we suggest washing the car and cleaning the interior before handover. That way old scratches show up clearly in the photographs and are recorded before shipping, not after.

Car Shared carrier Open flatbed Enclosed carrier
Sedan 1,100 1,650 —
SUV 1,400 2,050 —
Luxury or classic — — 2,300

A shared carrier suits most cars when the date is not tight, because the cost of the carrier is split across several cars. An open flatbed gives you an earlier date and less waiting for a load. A luxury or classic car, or one with delicate paintwork, belongs on an enclosed carrier, where neither dust nor road stones can reach it.

  • Empty the car of personal belongings; the carrier takes no responsibility for what is inside.
  • Keep the fuel at a quarter of a tank or less.
  • Record the odometer reading and take photos of the condition before handover.
  • Bring the vehicle registration and the owner’s ID.
  • Tell us if the car is low or has a front bumper close to the ground so we choose the right loading ramp.

On arrival the recipient takes the car from the yard or the address, as agreed, and compares its condition with the loading photographs before signing. If anything differs it is recorded on the spot, which is why we insist on careful photography before shipping.

Cartons and personal belongings from Al-Ahsa

Most people shipping cartons from Al-Ahsa to the UAE are employees who have moved to a new job, students, or families sending things to relatives. They do not need a full move; a handful of cartons on a shared departure is enough. Al Rahwan collects them from your door or you drop them at the warehouse, and even a single parcel weighing less than a kilogram can be sent, and every carton gets a number and a note of its contents.

Dates feature in Al-Ahsa shipments all the time. We accept them packed in sealed boxes and load them at the bottom, away from perfumes and strongly scented items. Foodstuffs are subject to the rules of the receiving authority, so we go through the type and the packing with you before loading, not after.

  • Use new reinforced cartons rather than damp second-hand fruit boxes.
  • Put a short list inside each carton and another on its side.
  • Clothes in sealed bags, fragile items on top between padding.
  • Do not fill a carton until it is so heavy that it collapses when stacked.
  • Perfumes and liquids in leak-proof bags.

Small traders and families also feature strongly in Al-Ahsa shipments: people who sell dates, coffee, clothes or perfumes online and send regular parcels to customers in the UAE. They do not need a whole pallet, only tightly packed parcels collected weekly from one place. We agree a fixed collection day with them, so they know when the shipment leaves and when it arrives, and can build their promises to customers on it.

Commercial shipping from Al-Ahsa

Al-Ahsa is both an industrial and an agricultural region: factories in its industrial city, date-packing plants, wholesale shops in Al Mubarraz, and iron and plastics workshops. All of them deal with UAE markets. You can ship by pallet for medium quantities, by container for large ones, or by full trailer when the goods exceed a container load. Al Rahwan’s commercial prices start from SAR 740 for a pallet, SAR 2,300 for a 20-foot container, SAR 3,500 for a 40-foot container and SAR 6,500 for a full trailer.

A commercial shipment needs a commercial invoice, a packing list and the importer’s details and registration. Some goods may call for a certificate of origin or a special permit, so we check the item before the shipment is packed, to stop it getting held at the crossing. And because Al-Ahsa is on the same road, factory owners can coordinate with departures already running and have a trailer loaded straight from the plant without going through an intermediate warehouse.

Sea freight to the UAE is limited to commercial containers: the container travels from Al-Ahsa to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, about 150 km away, and then by sea to Jebel Ali. This suits factories shipping regular containers that are not in a hurry, while individuals and furniture are better served by the quicker, simpler road route. Al Rahwan also ships from Al-Ahsa to every country in the world by land, sea and air, and the UAE is among the most requested destinations.

At the crossing the papers are reviewed and the load is inspected where necessary, then the shipment is unloaded or continues on its way depending on its type. If your goods are perishable, such as some fresh foods, they need different handling from ordinary freight, which is why we ask you about them early so that they are not delayed.

Air freight from Al-Ahsa to the UAE

Al-Ahsa has its own airport, Al-Ahsa International Airport, and Al Rahwan arranges air shipments from it to the UAE according to the airlines available. If your shipment is light and urgent, this is the route: documents, commercial samples, small spare parts, devices, and medicines with a permit. It arrives within 24 to 48 hours instead of the two or three days the road needs. Furniture, cars and heavy loads are not suited to air and are not sent that way.

How air freight weight is calculatedThe chargeable weight is the higher of the actual weight and the volumetric weight, and volumetric = length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000. There is no fixed per-kilo price for air freight, because it varies with the airline route and the season, so we send you an itemised quote once we know the dimensions and weight.

Example: a box of samples measuring 50 × 40 × 30 cm with an actual weight of 6 kg. The volume is 60,000 cubic centimetres, and dividing by 6000 gives 10 kg volumetric, so the box is charged at 10 kg, not 6. Repack the samples in a 40 × 30 × 25 cm box and the volumetric weight drops to 5 kg, so it is charged at its actual weight of 6 kg.

A common mistake is sending by air something that the road would clearly do for less. If the shipment is bigger than a few cartons and is not urgent, road freight is far cheaper, and living near Batha makes it quick enough.

For travellers who want their belongings to arrive ahead of them, or to follow, we can combine air freight for papers and light devices with road freight for the rest, so the important things reach you first and the remainder follows at a lower cost.

Documents needed to ship from Al-Ahsa to the UAE

What documents do you need to ship from Al-Ahsa to the UAE? An individual usually needs only a valid ID or iqama, a list of contents, a Fasah authorisation for the customs broker, and the recipient’s details and mobile number in the UAE. The list grows with the type of shipment: commercial registration, invoice and packing list for goods, and the vehicle registration, plates and export certificate for cars. Al Rahwan checks the papers with you before loading day, because one missing document can hold a shipment at Batha for a whole day.

Type of shipment Documents required Note
Personal belongings and cartons ID or iqama, list of contents, Fasah authorisation for the broker, recipient’s details and mobile number The list is written per carton, by its number
Household furniture ID or iqama, list of pieces, Fasah authorisation, delivery address The same list is used for the inventory check on delivery
Commercial goods Commercial registration, commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin on request, importer’s details A GCC certificate of origin helps goods of national origin
Car Vehicle registration, plates, export certificate, owner’s ID, letter from the bank if the car is financed, authorisation if the sender is not the owner A financed car cannot be exported without the bank’s letter
Dates and packed foods Statement of the item and quantity, sealed packing with a clear label, health or origin certificate if the receiving authority asks for it Checked before packing, not at the crossing

Keep a photo of every document on your phone and send a copy to the recipient in the UAE, who may be asked for their Emirates ID or residence details when collecting the shipment.

Customs and clearance at Batha and Ghuwaifat

An Al-Ahsa shipment usually goes through two customs stages on the same day. At Batha the export declaration is registered on Fasah, the papers are matched against the load and the truck may pass through an X-ray scan. It then crosses to Ghuwaifat, where the UAE import declaration is lodged and the relevant authorities review the items before release. Al Rahwan’s broker handles both sides, and you are notified as each stage is completed.

Personal belongings and used furniture are treated differently from commercial goods. Any duties or taxes on a shipment depend on its type, its origin and the regulations in force at the time of shipping, and Al Rahwan’s broker sets them out in the quote before loading. What most often delays a shipment at the crossing is an incomplete list of contents, an item that was not declared or a weight that differs from the declaration, which is why we write the list with you line by line.

Insuring your shipment from Al-Ahsa

Al Rahwan recommends insuring a shipment when its value is high, such as luxury furniture, carved majlis pieces, delicate devices and cars. Insurance is calculated on the value you declare for the contents, and its cost is shown within the same quote so that you can decide for yourself. Real protection starts with the inventory and the photographs: every piece is numbered and photographed before the truck door closes, and that is what is referred to if damage appears on delivery.

  • Declare the true value of valuable pieces, because compensation is based on it.
  • Ask for extra packing for glass, marble and ornaments rather than relying on insurance alone.
  • Check the pieces in front of the delivery crew and note any remark before signing.

Tracking your shipment from Al-Ahsa to the door

Al Rahwan does not leave customers waiting without news. You receive a message at collection with the shipment number and the number of pieces, then when the truck leaves Al-Ahsa, when formalities are completed at Batha, when it enters Ghuwaifat, and finally before it reaches the recipient’s door. You can ask where the shipment is at any time on 0568829975, or on WhatsApp at the same number. If there is a delay at the crossing we tell you the reason and the new expected time, rather than leaving you to find out.

Storage before shipping or after arrival

Not everyone shipping from Al-Ahsa is ready at both ends at the same moment. Your lease in Hofuf may end before you get the keys to your home in Dubai, or the furniture may arrive while the recipient is still looking for a flat. That is why Al Rahwan offers short-term storage on request: pieces are stored wrapped and numbered in a closed warehouse before shipping, or held after arrival until the recipient is ready, and then delivered against the same inventory. The storage price depends on volume and duration and is set out in an itemised quote.

  • Mention storage when you book so that the space is reserved in advance.
  • Do not store food or dates with furniture; they are shipped separately.
  • Ask for photos of your pieces in the warehouse if storage runs for a while.

What is prohibited or restricted when shipping from Al-Ahsa

We do not accept drugs, weapons, explosives, flammable materials, counterfeit goods or hazardous chemicals without a licence. Medicines, chilled foods, large batteries and concentrated perfumes need a permit or special packing. If your goods come from a farm or factory in Al-Ahsa, tell us what the product is before loading, because some fertilisers and agricultural pesticides carry strict conditions.

Some restrictions that people in the oasis tend to overlook: seedlings, palm offshoots, live plants and soil can be shipped only with a phytosanitary certificate from the competent authority, and birds and animals are not carried in general freight at all. Gas cylinders, air conditioners that have not been drained of gas and wet-cell batteries are refused by the truck for safety reasons. If you are unsure about an item, ask Al Rahwan before you seal the carton.

How to book with Al Rahwan from Al-Ahsa

Al Rahwan takes bookings every day from 7 am to 11 pm on 0568829975, and advice before shipping is free of charge. The steps are as follows:

  1. Call 0568829975 or message us on WhatsApp with the town or district, the type of shipment and the UAE city.
  2. We work out the volume or weight from photos or a short visit.
  3. You receive an itemised quote and an estimated date.
  4. We collect, pack, make an inventory and photograph everything.
  5. The truck leaves Al-Ahsa for the Batha crossing.
  6. Procedures are completed through Fasah on the Saudi side and Mirsal 2 in Dubai.
  7. We deliver to the recipient’s door in the emirate required.

Delivery across the seven emirates

After Ghuwaifat, shipments are distributed to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are the nearest, then Dubai, then the northern and eastern emirates, which usually add a day. We deliver to the door of the flat, villa or warehouse, and the driver calls the recipient before arriving.

For furniture moves Al Rahwan does not stop at the door: the crew carries the pieces into their rooms, reassembles the beds and wardrobes dismantled in Al-Ahsa, sets out what was agreed, and then goes through the numbered list with the recipient piece by piece. Many towers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi require a service lift booking and an access permit from building management, so ask the recipient to arrange it a day or two ahead so the truck is not left waiting at the entrance.

How to work out road freight cost with volumetric weight

For road freight we calculate volumetric weight by multiplying length by width by height in centimetres and dividing by 5000. Take a carton of 70 × 50 × 40 cm: the volume is 140,000 cubic centimetres, and dividing by 5000 gives 28 kg volumetric. If its actual weight is 12 kg, the charged weight is 28 kg because it is the higher. That is why tightly packed cartons with no empty space help: every gap you take out of the carton takes something off the figure.

The cheapest way to ship from Al-Ahsa

  • Join a shared departure instead of hiring a whole truck for a small shipment.
  • Drop cartons at our warehouse if that is closer than collection from your door.
  • Combine the belongings of the family and relatives into one shipment.
  • Choose the shared carrier for the car if you are not in a hurry.
  • Pack tightly to reduce the volumetric weight.
  • Use air freight only for light, urgent items.

Common mistakes when shipping from Al-Ahsa

Sizing a villa over the phoneThe real number of pieces can exceed your estimate, which delays loading.
Wrapping damp woodFurniture that has not dried suffers on the road, so let it dry first.
An unclear loading point at the farmThe truck gets stuck on an unpaved track if we have not agreed the entrance.
Second-hand fruit cartonsThey weaken when stacked and collapse on the road.
Sending a dirty car with no photosThe proof of its condition before shipping is lost.
