As a Shipping Company from Al Ahsa to Oman, Al Rahwan collects dates, parcels, furniture, cars and farm equipment from Hofuf, Mubarraz, Al Uyun and the oasis villages. The truck heads for the Al Batha road junction then takes the long desert run south until it reaches the Saudi post known as the Empty Quarter crossing (Al Rub’ Al Khali), crosses to the Ramlat Khaylah post and arrives in Ibri, Muscat or the north three to four days after loading, with clearance counted inside that time. Prices start from SAR 32 for a parcel of up to 5 kg; a box of dates or a travel case of up to 30 kg costs from SAR 110; a sedan on a shared transporter goes from SAR 1,680; and a room’s furniture moves from SAR 1,100. Ring 0568829975, or use WhatsApp on the same number; calls are answered 7 am–11 pm daily, and the website takes requests round the clock.

No big Saudi city sits closer to the Empty Quarter road than Al Ahsa, so a truck leaving Hofuf does not double back north or pass through Riyadh; it heads straight for Al Batha. People shipping from the oasis to Oman usually send one of three things: dates from its palms, as a gift or for trade; the household of a family moving to Oman; or farm equipment and supplies for a farm in Al Batinah or Al Dakhiliyah. Each needs its own packing and its own papers. Al Rahwan’s reach does not end at the Omani border either – its land, sea and air shipments go to any country, and the Sultanate is among those people ask for most.
- Closest starting point: Al Ahsa sits almost on the road to the Al Batha junction, where the Empty Quarter road begins.
- The road: a 564 km desert run from the junction to the Saudi border post, Ramlat Khaylah just beyond it, and a final 161 km to Ibri – some 725 km after leaving the junction.
- Transit: three to four days reach Muscat and the north; allow one or two more for Salalah and Al Wusta.
- Parcels and cartons: SAR 32 for a light parcel, SAR 110 for a box holding up to 30 kg.
- Dates and goods: from SAR 5.5 per kilo by road for quantities to Muscat, and SAR 790 per tonne.
- Homes and cars: SAR 1,100 to start for a room, SAR 1,850 for a flat with its three rooms, SAR 1,680 for a sedan on a carrier.
- Air: an urgent packet of up to 5 kg arrives in 24–48 hours, priced from SAR 110.
The road from Al Ahsa to Oman through the Empty Quarter crossing
From Hofuf the truck heads south-east on the Al Batha road to the junction where the Empty Quarter road splits off. There begin 564 km of open sand to the Empty Quarter crossing, a border post that belongs to the Eastern Province, the same region Al Ahsa is part of. Once Saudi exit is done, the truck pulls forward to Ramlat Khaylah for Omani entry and then covers about 161 km of Al Dhahirah governorate to reach Ibri. This direct road is what makes the Al Ahsa lane one of the shortest to Oman, just like Dammam, except that from Al Ahsa the truck starts even closer to the junction.

| Stop | Location | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Loading | Hofuf, Mubarraz, Al Uyun or the villages | Goods listed and packed, cartons and dates weighed |
| Start of the desert road | Al Batha road junction | Turn onto the Empty Quarter road |
| The road | 564 km | Crossing the sands of the Rub’ Al Khali |
| Exit from the Kingdom | Empty Quarter crossing | Declaration filed on Fasah checked, inspection |
| Entry into Oman | Ramlat Khaylah | Clearance on the Bayan system |
| First Omani town | Ibri, 161 km on | Then distribution to Muscat, Nizwa and the other governorates |
Ibri: the first stop after the border
Ibri is the centre of Al Dhahirah governorate and the first large town the truck reaches after Ramlat Khaylah. Delivery in and around Ibri from Al Ahsa is therefore the shortest of all the Oman lanes, and from there shipments continue to Nizwa and Bahla in Al Dakhiliyah, to Rustaq in South Al Batinah, or to Muscat. Anyone with family in Ibri or a farm in Al Dhahirah benefits from this closeness, since the shipment does not need to go through Muscat first.
The alternative road through the UAE
Some Omani destinations are nearer from the UAE side: Al Buraimi, Sohar and Shinas in North Al Batinah, and Musandam, which can only be reached by road through the UAE. For these, the truck may leave through the Al Batha crossing into the UAE and enter Oman through the Al Buraimi crossings, Khatmat Malaha, or Hatta and Al Wajajah. That road has four border posts and longer formalities, so it is chosen only when it suits the wilayat or the shipment better. It is Al Rahwan that weighs the two roads against each other once it knows the wilayat and what you are sending, and it explains why it picked one.
How long does a shipment from Al Ahsa take?
| Shipment type | To Muscat and the north | To Salalah and Al Wusta |
|---|---|---|
| Dates, cartons and parcels | 3–4 days | 4–6 days |
| Household furniture | 3–4 days | 4–6 days |
| Car | About 3–4 days | About 4–6 days |
| Goods and farm equipment | 3–4 days | 4–6 days |
| Air (nearest airport, by available flights) | 24–48 hours | 24–48 hours |
The time runs from the moment the truck is sealed in Al Ahsa to handover at the address, including the formalities at both border posts. When a shipment runs past these times, the cause is usually something that could have been known in advance: missing papers, a receiver in Oman with no local number on file, or a trade-sized lot of dates sent without its paperwork.
Car shipping from Al Ahsa to Oman
A car leaving Al Ahsa rides one of the decks of a long transporter, under a cover and strapped at the wheels, and reaches Oman in about the same time as the rest of the Al Ahsa lane: 3–4 days to Muscat and the northern towns. Owners of luxury cars can ask for an enclosed carrier that shields them from the dust and sun of the desert road.

| Option | From |
|---|---|
| Sedan on a shared carrier | SAR 1,680 |
| Four-wheel drive on a shared carrier | SAR 2,780 |
| Car on its own carrier | SAR 2,400 |
| Luxury car in an enclosed carrier | SAR 4,150 |
Before it is loaded the car needs an unexpired istimara, an export certificate and plates from the traffic department, a copy of its owner’s ID, the bank’s consent if it is still being paid for, evidence that its fines are cleared, a mandate when someone else hands it over, and the name of whoever will collect it in Oman. The Royal Oman Police ask for an export certificate from the country of registration, then inspect and register the car after arrival. Before you book, Al Rahwan asks for the model and specification and compares them with Oman’s import rules. The car is handed over empty of belongings, photographed from every side at collection, and its keys and odometer reading are recorded.
Farm vehicles and larger cars
Many Al Ahsa households have a work vehicle for the farm alongside the family car. A small pickup is shipped on the carrier like a four-wheel drive if its size is similar, while small trucks and wheeled machinery are priced on an itemised quote once their dimensions and weight are known. The pickup’s bed travels as empty as its cab, so farm tools are not loaded in it; they go in the goods shipment.
Shipping prices from Al Ahsa to Oman
How much does shipping from Al Ahsa to Oman cost? The lowest figure is SAR 32 for a small parcel; a heavy box or case up to 30 kg starts at SAR 110; dates and goods sent in quantity to Muscat start at SAR 5.5 a kilo; one room of furniture is from SAR 1,100, a flat of three rooms and its appliances from SAR 1,850, and a sedan from SAR 1,680. The final price is set from photos of your goods or a free survey at your home or farm.
| Service | From (SAR) |
|---|---|
| Small parcel up to 5 kg | 32 |
| Carton or suitcase up to 30 kg | 110 |
| Urgent air parcel up to 5 kg | 110 |
| Per kilo by road for goods and dates in quantity, to Muscat | 5.5 |
| Part load in a shared truck | 410 |
| One room of furniture | 1,100 |
| Small office | 1,020 |
| Flat of up to 3 rooms with appliances | 1,850 |
| Villa or whole house | 4,150 |
| Dedicated enclosed truck (transport only) | 4,200 |
| Sedan on a shared carrier | 1,680 |
| Four-wheel drive on a shared carrier | 2,780 |
| Car on its own carrier | 2,400 |
| Luxury car in an enclosed carrier | 4,150 |
| Commercial goods per tonne | 790 |
| 20 ft container by sea | 5,200 |
Anything not on the list is priced after a survey or in an itemised quote: farm equipment and pumps, pallets, air freight above 5 kg, storage, insurance, air-conditioner removal and single appliances. Delivery to Salalah and Al Wusta has the road distance added. Ask about offers when you book, since Al Rahwan runs them most of the time.
Worked examples from Al Ahsa
- A farmer sending dates by the kilo: 300 kg × SAR 5.5 = SAR 1,650 to Muscat.
- A farm-supplies dealer: 8 tonnes × SAR 790 = SAR 6,320.
- A small family moving one room with its car: room SAR 1,100 + sedan SAR 1,680 = SAR 2,780.
- A student sending his things: 2 cartons × SAR 110 = SAR 220, plus a small parcel at SAR 32, making SAR 252.
- A whole house in Mubarraz with gift dates: villa SAR 4,150 + sedan SAR 1,680 + five cartons of dates SAR 550 = from SAR 6,380.
How to cut the cost of your shipment from Al Ahsa
Send everything on one date rather than in several small shipments, because a single parcel has a fixed price however small it is. If you have a lot of dates, send them by the kilo at the quantity rate rather than by the carton. A part load from SAR 410 is enough for a few pieces and cartons without booking a whole truck. Dismantling whatever furniture can be dismantled reduces the volume, and leaving out cheap old pieces saves more than you might expect. A flexible date helps too, because a shared truck moves when its load is complete.
Work out the size of your shipment before you call
Most household loads fill a truck by volume before weight, while dates and equipment fill it by weight before volume. To find the volume, multiply a package’s length, width and height in metres: a 60 × 40 × 40 cm carton takes up about 0.1 cubic metres, and ten of them fill a cubic metre. Dates are heavy for their size, so they are charged by weight. Send Al Rahwan both figures if you can, with a photo of the largest piece, and the quote will be close to the real figure from the first time.
Comparing road, air and sea from Al Ahsa
| Mode | Transit to Muscat | From | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Road, enclosed truck | 3–4 days | SAR 110 per carton, SAR 5.5 per kilo in quantity | Dates, furniture, cars and equipment |
| Air | 24–48 hours | SAR 110 for a parcel up to 5 kg | Urgent papers and small devices |
| Sea, container | According to the sailing schedule | SAR 5,200 for a 20 ft container | Large commercial volumes only |
Road is the natural choice from Al Ahsa, because the oasis sits at the door of the Empty Quarter road and a truck loaded in Hofuf reaches Ibri with no intermediate transfer. Sea is only for traders sending full containers, which are trucked from Al Ahsa to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and shipped to Sohar, Salalah or Duqm; it does not suit household furniture or a family consignment of dates. Air is for a small urgent part only.
Shipping Al Ahsa dates to Oman
Al Ahsa dates are among the best-known things the oasis sends to Oman, above all Khalas, alongside other well-known local varieties such as Ruzaiz and Sheshi. Dates react to packing and heat more than many people expect, and the road to Oman is a long desert run.
Packing dates for the desert road
Pressed dates (maknooz) in sealed packs stand up to the road far better than soft fresh rutab, and rutab in season is not recommended for a long road journey because it ferments and runs. The best pack for shipping is a tightly sealed factory pack; if the dates come from your own farm, they go into airtight plastic tubs or vacuum bags, which are then placed in strong cartons that will not crush. Date cartons are never stacked under heavy pieces, each carton is marked with its contents and weight, and they are kept apart from perfumes or anything with a strong smell. Dates travel in the enclosed truck with dry goods, which is why they must be packed to cope with the heat of the road.
A family gift or a commercial quantity
A box or two of dates as a gift for your family in Oman travels with your personal belongings and is listed on the inventory. Sending dates in volume to sell to Omani shops makes the consignment commercial, so it needs a business CR, a sales invoice and a packing list, and a certificate of origin or food certificates and approvals may be requested under the regulations in force in Oman at the time of shipping. Food of any kind has to be declared, and the Omani authorities decide what each item needs, which is why Al Rahwan asks about the quantity and purpose before deciding how to ship and which papers to prepare. Date syrup (dibs) is a liquid, so it goes into sealed containers and is listed on the inventory.
Shipping farm equipment and supplies from Al Ahsa
Al Ahsa is an oasis of palms and farms, and much of what it ships to Oman is linked to agriculture: water pumps, pipes and drip-irrigation networks, palm-pruning tools and hand-operated lifting gear, small machines for packing and sorting dates, and spare parts for farm machinery. They travel at SAR 790 a tonne to start, or per kilo for larger quantities, while larger machinery such as small tractors and engines is priced on an itemised quote.
A pump or engine is drained of fuel and oil before loading and fixed to a timber base so it cannot move in the truck. Long pipes are tied in bundles and loaded at the bottom. Fertilisers and pesticides are chemicals that must be reviewed before acceptance, and some are not accepted at all, while offshoots, seeds and plants need prior approval from the competent authorities, so they are not loaded until that is confirmed. Omani farms in Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah and Al Dhahirah lie close to the road coming from Al Ahsa, so equipment reaches them without passing through Muscat.
Commercial goods from Al Ahsa factories and stores
Al Ahsa has industrial cities, food factories, date-packing plants and online stores selling across the Gulf. Trade cargo can go either as a full load in its own enclosed truck from SAR 4,200, or as a part load that pays for its share of the space – SAR 790 a tonne to start, or SAR 5.5 a kilo when large quantities are heading for Muscat. Send pallet counts and weights and they get their own price. Each pallet is wrapped, strapped and numbered, and the packing list matches the commercial invoice row for row, since that is what Omani customs check. A business that ships every week or every month can agree a fixed collection day with Al Rahwan and a standing file for its company papers, so only the invoice and the list change from one shipment to the next.
Moving household furniture from Al Ahsa to Oman
Families moving from Al Ahsa to Oman usually have homes with large majlis rooms, big bedrooms, full kitchens and plenty of air conditioners. Al Rahwan starts with a free survey at the house, then an inventory of every piece, then dismantling, packing and numbering, then loading, and in Oman unloading, placing, assembly and arranging.

The right wrap for every piece
Upholstered sofas always get the same order: paper or sheeting against the fabric, a thick blanket, then plastic wound on loosely. Floor-seating cushions are rolled and tied, and back cushions go into bags. Wood gets edge protection, while glass and mirrors go into made-to-size cartons or wooden crates. Fridges are cleared out and left to dry for a day; washer drums are braced. A split air conditioner needs a technician to recover its gas before removal and is priced after the survey. Anything heat-sensitive stays out of the truck – perfumes, liquid incense, candles, medicines and aerosols – because the Empty Quarter road is hot.
Dismantling and assembly in Oman
Bedrooms are taken apart into numbered panels with their screws in bags named for each piece, and kitchens are dismantled cabinet by cabinet, with the worktop removed and carried upright. Once in Oman, the team rebuilds whatever was dismantled, carries each item to its room and lays the majlis out just as it stood at home. Flats need the lift reserved and a nod from the building manager before the truck is emptied.
A worked case: a family from Mubarraz to Nizwa
A family in Mubarraz whose breadwinner has taken a job in Nizwa has a three-room flat and a sedan, wants to send ten boxes of dates as gifts for relatives there, and needs the papers and laptop only on the first working day. The plan: a survey at the house a few days before the date, then a single day for dismantling, packing and loading; the date boxes go into separate cartons marked “gifts” and listed on the inventory; the car is loaded onto a shared carrier in the same week; and the laptop and papers fly ahead by air. Adding the flat (SAR 1,850), the sedan (SAR 1,680) and the air parcel (SAR 110) gives a starting total of SAR 3,640, with the dates charged on top by weight. The shipment reaches Nizwa by way of Ibri without passing through Muscat, since the road from Ramlat Khaylah to Al Dakhiliyah is direct.
Air conditioners and appliances in Al Ahsa homes
Large Al Ahsa homes usually have a split unit in every room and window units in the annexes and outdoor majlis. A window unit is removed, wrapped and carried upright. Split systems need a technician to draw the refrigerant back into the outside unit; after that the lines come off with their ends sealed against road dust, and indoor and outdoor units are wrapped one by one. AC removal and installation are priced after the survey because they depend on the number of units and how high they are mounted. Large fridges and the date freezers some homes keep are emptied, cleaned and left open for a day before packing so they dry inside, then carried upright, never lying down.
Collection from Al Ahsa districts and villages
Al Rahwan collects from the door in all three Al Ahsa towns and the villages, so customers never have to carry their goods anywhere. In older houses and the narrow lanes of the villages, furniture first goes by dyna or pickup to the large enclosed truck, because dynas and pickups are for local moves only and it is the enclosed trucks that cross the border.
| Area | Districts and villages | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Hofuf | Al Kut, Al Na’athil, Al Ruqayqah, Al Aziziyah, Al Hazm, Al Fadhiliyah, Al Jami’iyin | Old districts alongside wide modern ones |
| Mubarraz | Al Mahasin, Ain Najm, North Mubarraz | Villas and apartment blocks |
| Al Uyun | Al Uyun town and surroundings | The north of the oasis |
| Oasis villages | Al Jafr, Al Taraf, Al Jishah, Al Qarah, Al Tuwaythir, Al Munaizilah, Al Mutairfi, Al Shuqaiq, Al Omran, Al Hulaylah, Al Mansourah, Al Battaliyah, Al Kilabiyah, Al Dalwah | Narrow streets in the old quarters, consolidated with the nearest load |
If the shipment comes from more than one address, such as a house in Hofuf and a farm in Al Taraf, it is collected on a single date with a list for each address.
Shipping parcels, cartons and suitcases from Al Ahsa
From Al Ahsa, SAR 32 covers a parcel weighing 5 kg or less, and SAR 110 a case or box of up to 30 kg. People in Al Ahsa send clothes to Oman, students’ books, workers’ belongings ahead of their travel, gifts of dates, coffee, bishts and fabrics, and online-store orders for customers in Muscat and Ibri.
Every carton is numbered, weighed and described on the list, and its label carries the consignee’s name, phone number and wilayat, with no ID or passport number. Bishts and fine fabrics are wrapped in cloth bags and then boxed so they do not crease or sweat inside plastic. Books go into small cartons, and coffee stays in its sealed packs.
Bishts and local products as gifts
Al Ahsa is known for tailoring bishts, and many people sending goods to Oman add a bisht or two as a gift. A bisht is never folded at random; in a large shipment it hangs on a hanger inside a cloth bag, otherwise it is folded along its original creases and placed in its box on top of the other cartons, not beneath them. The same goes for fine fabrics and cloaks. Roasted coffee, cardamom and spices travel in their sealed packs and are listed with the foodstuffs, because they are food items that must be declared.
Another oasis product often sent as a gift is the red Hasawi rice, which travels in its sealed sacks inside a carton so the sacks are not torn by rubbing, and which is treated like dates on the inventory: a gift quantity with personal belongings, a commercial quantity with its own papers. Hasawi pottery – jars, incense burners and bowls – is wrapped piece by piece in paper and then bubble film, placed in a carton divided by stiff cardboard partitions, and nothing is stacked on top of it. Large pieces such as jars go into a small wooden crate if they are valuable, and each is photographed before packing.
Air freight from Al Ahsa to Oman
Air freight reaches Muscat International Airport or Salalah Airport within 24–48 hours and leaves from the nearest airport with a suitable flight, most often King Fahd Airport in Dammam. For 5 kg or less the urgent rate opens at SAR 110; heavier consignments are quoted line by line on their chargeable weight.

Airlines compare the scale weight with a size-based figure (length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000) and bill on the bigger one. A 50 × 40 × 30 cm carton is therefore charged as 10 kg even if it weighs 7 kg. That is why air freight does not suit large cartons of dates; it is for papers, passports, small devices and urgent spare parts. Liquids such as date syrup and perfume, and large batteries, are restricted on aircraft.
Documents needed to ship from Al Ahsa to Oman
Anyone shipping personal belongings prepares their passport with ID or iqama, an Arabic–English list of the goods and a Fasah mandate for the broker, while the receiver in Oman supplies a local number, a copy of their card and their own signed mandate. For commercial dates and goods: a commercial registration, an invoice and a packing list.
| Shipment | Documents |
|---|---|
| Personal belongings and furniture | From you: passport with ID or iqama, a list describing each item in Arabic and English, and the broker’s Fasah mandate. From the receiver: an Omani mobile linked to Bayan, an address down to district, floor and lift, an image of their Omani ID or residency card, and a broker mandate |
| Dates and commercial goods | The business CR, the sales invoice, a packing list with carton weights, the Omani importer’s name, anything the food rules call for, and a certificate of origin if requested |
| Farm equipment | Invoice and a list of weights and dimensions, plus prior approval if plants or seeds are included |
| Car | Its istimara, traffic-department export plates and certificate, the owner’s ID, the bank’s consent if it is on finance, proof its fines are paid, a mandate where needed, and who collects it in Oman |
Customs on both sides
The file opens in Al Ahsa: you give the broker a mandate on Fasah, the platform of ZATCA (the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority), which lets him lodge the export declaration; officers at the Empty Quarter crossing then examine the load and may open a carton or two to compare with the list. Past the border, the goods pass to Omani customs – a directorate within the Royal Oman Police that works on Bayan – and are checked and released at Ramlat Khaylah, or at the UAE entry point when they come that way. The treatment of used belongings, cars and foodstuffs is decided by Omani customs under whichever regulations apply when it ships; Al Rahwan reviews your shipment before loading and explains what the clearance price covers.
Prohibited items and what needs approval
The refused list is short and absolute: drugs, a weapon or ammunition, explosives, things that catch fire, bottled gas or fuel, fake goods, dangerous chemicals. The approval-or-declaration list is longer for oasis shipments in particular: commercial dates and any food, offshoots, seeds and plants, fertiliser and pesticide, plus bulk medicine, drones, radio transmitters and big batteries. Customs make the final call on all of them.
Insurance and tracking on the Al Ahsa lane, plus storage
Anyone who wants cover asks for it when booking, and its price follows the value they put on their goods, with a photo inventory behind it. Progress is reported four times between Hofuf and the Omani doorstep – after loading, at the Saudi border, once inside the Sultanate, and on handover. Storage can be arranged at either end, before or after the trip, and is priced once the goods and the period are known, and it helps anyone handing back their Al Ahsa home before they receive their new home in Oman.
From Ibri to Salalah: delivery across Oman
| Governorate | Towns | Note from Al Ahsa |
|---|---|---|
| Al Dhahirah | Ibri | The nearest delivery after Ramlat Khaylah |
| Al Dakhiliyah | Nizwa, Bahla | On the road from Ibri |
| Muscat | Seeb, Bawshar, Al Khuwair, Ruwi, Muttrah, Al Amerat, Qurayyat | 3–4 days |
| South Al Batinah | Rustaq | Via Al Dakhiliyah or Muscat |
| North Al Batinah | Sohar, Shinas | Empty Quarter or via the UAE |
| Al Buraimi | Al Buraimi | Usually via the UAE |
| North Al Sharqiyah | Ibra | Beyond Muscat |
| South Al Sharqiyah | Sur | Beyond Muscat |
| Al Wusta | Haima, Duqm | One to two extra days |
| Dhofar | Salalah | One to two extra days, with distance added |
| Musandam | Khasab | Via the UAE only |
Muscat is the reference for prices and times, while Salalah lies further south, so one to two days and the road distance are added. Sending to two or more wilayats? Say so before loading so the truck is packed in drop order.
Muscat or Salalah from Al Ahsa?
Muscat, Nizwa and Ibri are 3–4 days away at the starting prices. Salalah alone adds a day or two, so 4–6 in all, and the long drive south from Ibri is built into its quote. By air, both cities take 24–48 hours.
Delivery in Al Dhahirah and Al Dakhiliyah
Al Dhahirah, the governorate the road enters first, includes the wilayats of Ibri, Yanqul and Dhank, and Al Dakhiliyah beyond it includes Nizwa, Bahla, Adam, Izki, Samail, Bidbid, Manah and Al Hamra. All of them lie close to the route of a truck coming from Ramlat Khaylah, so delivering there does not mean going to Muscat and coming back. For mountain villages or farms away from the paved road, a smaller vehicle is arranged for the last leg and stated in the quote.
Al Ahsa students and employees moving to Oman
Al Ahsa has universities, institutes and large companies, and every year students who have finished their studies and employees who have taken jobs in Oman leave from there. Most of them do not need a whole truck: cartons of books and clothes, a desk and chair, perhaps a small fridge and a car. The best fit is a part load from SAR 410 or cartons by the piece from SAR 110, the car on a shared carrier, and a small air parcel for the papers they need in their first week. Several students can also combine their shipments on one date, each with his own list and cartons numbered in his name, which lowers the cost for each of them.
Choosing who ships your goods from Al Ahsa to Oman
Ask the company: will my shipment leave Al Ahsa directly for the Empty Quarter, or go first to a warehouse in another city? An intermediate transfer adds a day and handling that serves no purpose. Ask whether they know how to pack dates for the desert road, whether the transit time includes clearance, what the quote covers line by line, who assembles the furniture in Oman, and how you will follow the shipment. A straightforward company answers all of this before it asks you for a deposit.
Tips before shipping from Al Ahsa
- Send dates pressed in sealed packs, and leave soft rutab for people flying or driving themselves.
- Photograph furniture and appliances before dismantling, and keep the photos until delivery.
- Wash carpets and soft furnishings at least two days ahead so they dry completely.
- Drain fuel and oil from pumps and engines before loading day.
- Keep a first-days bag with you: papers, medicines, clothes and chargers.
- Book early before holidays and the end of the school year.
Booking steps with Al Rahwan from Al Ahsa
- Call or WhatsApp 0568829975 and give your district or village in Al Ahsa and the wilayat in Oman.
- Send photos of your goods or the weight of your dates and cargo, or ask for a free survey.
- Receive an itemised quote with the route and transit time.
- Pay the deposit, prepare the papers and authorise the broker on Fasah; the balance follows loading, with no instalments.
- On loading day everything is listed, packed and numbered, and you or someone you authorise signs the list.
- Messages reach you at the border and on entry into Oman.
- In Oman the crew unloads and reassembles, and you check the numbers against the list before signing.
Payment, attendance and collection from several addresses
Part of the bill is paid when you confirm the booking and the rest once the truck is loaded; nothing is split into instalments. You do not have to attend loading day yourself if you authorise a relative to sign the list for you, but in Oman the consignee must be present or must authorise someone else in their name. A shipment can be collected from your house in Hofuf, your farm in one of the villages and a date shop in Mubarraz on the same day, each address with its own list and carton numbers.
Shipping from Oman to Al Ahsa
The reverse direction is an established service: anyone returning from Oman to a home in Al Ahsa, or importing Omani goods into the oasis, ships through the Ramlat Khaylah post and then the Empty Quarter crossing, with a similar transit time and the same papers with the roles reversed.
Common mistakes when shipping from Al Ahsa
- Sending soft rutab by road in summer: it ferments and leaks onto the rest of the load.
- Commercial dates without papers: a trade quantity is treated as goods and needs its documents.
- Offshoots or seeds without approval: they are stopped at the border.
- Fuel left in pumps and engines: it must be drained before loading.
- Perfume and liquid incense in the truck: the heat ruins them.
- Farm tools in the pickup bed: the vehicle travels empty.
- A receiver with no Omani mobile: the Bayan file cannot move.
