As a shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Qatar, Al Rahwan collects furniture, cars, cartons and commercial goods from any city in the Kingdom and sends them by lorry along the highway to Salwa and then through Abu Samra, the one land entry point linking the Kingdom with Qatar, before delivering to the receiver’s door in Doha, Lusail, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah, Al Khor and the rest of Qatar. Shipments from Dammam, Khobar and Al-Ahsa arrive within one to two days, from Riyadh within two to three days, and from Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah within 3 to 5 days. A carton of up to 30 kg starts from SAR 120, moving a single bedroom starts from SAR 740, and a saloon travelling on a shared car transporter starts from SAR 1,100. This guide is the hub page for everything about shipping from the Kingdom to Qatar. It starts with the road, the crossing and the transit time from each Saudi region, then moves on to price tables and worked examples, and then covers each type of shipment separately: household and villa furniture, cars by type of carrier, cartons, suitcases and small parcels, commercial goods and equipment, and office and embassy moves. After that it explains air freight by volumetric weight, the documents for each type, clearance on Fasah and Al Nadeeb, prohibited items, insurance, tracking and storage, the booking steps, how delivery works in Qatari cities, and the most common mistakes that delay shipments or push up their cost.
Al Rahwan International Shipping carries shipments to any country worldwide by road, sea and air, and the road to Qatar remains one of its most requested routes, because the distance is relatively short and a truck can carry goods from a house door in Saudi Arabia to a house door in Qatar without any intermediate unloading. The bookings team picks up calls and WhatsApp messages daily from 7 am until 11 pm, weekends included.
Can You Ship from Saudi Arabia to Qatar?
Yes. Shipping from Saudi Arabia to Qatar is available by road and by air, and sea is used for commercial containers only. Road is the most widely used option because Qatar is connected to the Kingdom by a single land border, guarded at its Saudi end by the Salwa post, which falls under Al-Udayd governorate, and at its Qatari end by the Abu Samra post, with only a short gap between the two gates. Trucks and cars pass through both crossings after completing passport and customs formalities on each side, and then continue to Doha and the other cities.
That is why anyone in Riyadh, Jeddah, Abha or Tabuk can send their belongings to Qatar without booking a container or waiting for a sailing. Al Rahwan consolidates shipments from distant cities on regular trips towards the Eastern Province and then heads for Salwa, while shipments from Dammam, Khobar and Al-Ahsa leave straight for the crossing because they are so close to it. Very light parcels, documents and urgent devices have an air option that cuts transit to 24–48 hours from the sender’s door to the receiver’s door.
| Mode | Best suited to | Door-to-door time | How it is priced |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared road truck | Cartons, suitcases, part loads of furniture and parcels by weight | From one to 6 days depending on the city | Per kg, per piece or per cubic metre |
| Dedicated road truck | A whole house, a villa or goods that fill the truck | Faster than shared, as it is a direct trip | A full truck starts from SAR 2,300 |
| Car carrier | Private cars, 4x4s and luxury cars | Two to 4 days | Per car, by car type and carrier type |
| Air | Urgent, light and high-value small items | 24 to 48 hours | Itemised quote by chargeable weight |
| Sea | Full commercial containers to Hamad Port | According to the sailing schedule | Itemised quote |
The Road Route: From Saudi Cities to Salwa and on to Abu Samra

Every truck heading from the Kingdom to Qatar eventually passes through the same point: the Salwa crossing. The post sits beside the small town that gives it its name, south-east of Al-Ahsa and close to the border line itself, and is run by the General Directorate of Border Guard together with the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority. Opposite it stands the Abu Samra crossing, which belongs to Qatar’s Al Rayyan municipality. Between the two, the driver completes exit formalities from the Kingdom and then entry formalities into Qatar, and the load documents are checked on both sides.
From Riyadh a truck covers about 460 km to reach Salwa, then about 90 km from Abu Samra to Doha, so the full road from Riyadh to Doha is about 574 km, a relatively short distance by road, although a shipment’s timing also has to allow for loading, the crossing and delivery. From Jeddah the trip is far longer: the distance between Jeddah and Doha is about 1,519 km, crossing central Saudi Arabia from west to east. Dammam, Khobar and Hofuf, on the other hand, sit near the border, so their shipments post the shortest times on this route.
| Stage of the route | Approximate distance | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Riyadh to the Salwa crossing | About 460 km | The eastern highway past the Al-Ahsa area towards the border |
| At the Salwa crossing | — | Exit formalities and Saudi customs using Fasah data |
| At the Abu Samra crossing | — | Entry formalities and Qatari customs through Al Nadeeb |
| Abu Samra to Doha | About 90 km | The direct road to the capital and from there to other cities |
| Riyadh to Doha in full | About 574 km | Paved road all the way, plus loading time and formalities at both posts |
| Jeddah to Doha in full | About 1,519 km | A long cross-country trip through central Saudi Arabia |
The Salwa crossing operates 24 hours a day, every day of the week, and houses passports, customs, police, traffic, Red Crescent and civil defence departments. It handles large numbers of trucks and vehicles every year, so Al Rahwan times its arrival according to the state of the load and whether its paperwork is complete, so that a truck never sits in the queue with missing documents. A truck’s crossing time should not be judged by that of an ordinary traveller’s car: a commercial or household load is inspected and its declaration checked, and the time varies with the type of goods and the number of declared consignments on the same trip.
How Far Is Riyadh from Qatar, and How Long Does a Shipment Take?
The distance from Riyadh to Doha is about 574 kilometres, of which about 460 km is the run to the Salwa crossing. But anyone asking about the distance usually wants to know when their things will arrive, and a shipment is not measured by road time alone: there is collection, packing and loading time in Riyadh, then the formalities at Salwa and Abu Samra, then unloading and reassembly in Qatar. That is why Al Rahwan gives a door-to-door transit time of two to three days from Riyadh, with small parcels usually arriving within 48 to 72 hours.
Why Is Sea Not Used for Personal Belongings?
Sea freight between the Kingdom and Qatar is in practice reserved for full commercial containers arriving at Hamad Port, south of Doha. That option needs road haulage to the departure port, a booking on the vessel schedule, handling at both ports and then another road leg from Hamad Port to the warehouse. Household furniture, a car or cartons reach Qatar faster by road and with less handling, because the same truck loads the goods at the house in Saudi Arabia and unloads them at the house in Qatar. Al Rahwan suggests sea only when the cargo is a full commercial container and the total cost works out lower once every stage is counted.
Transit Time from Saudi Arabia to Qatar by City of Departure
How long will you wait for goods sent from the Kingdom to reach Qatar? The shortest times come from the Eastern Province and Al-Ahsa: one to two days. Riyadh shipments arrive in two to three days and Qassim shipments in 3–4 days, while the Western Region (Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Taif) needs 3–5 days, and Tabuk and Khamis Mushait need 4–6 days. A car arrives in two to 4 days and an air shipment in 24–48 hours.
| Saudi city of departure | Time to Qatar (door to door) | How the trip runs |
|---|---|---|
| Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran and Al-Ahsa | One to two days | Direct departure to the Salwa crossing |
| Riyadh and Al-Kharj | Two to 3 days (parcels 48–72 hours) | Regular trips along the eastern highway |
| Qassim (Buraydah, Unaizah and Ar Rass) | 3 to 4 days | Consolidated via Riyadh, then east |
| Jeddah, Taif, Makkah and Madinah | 3 to 5 days | Consolidated in the Western Region, then a cross-country trip |
| Tabuk, Khamis Mushait and Abha | 4 to 6 days | Advance scheduling for the most distant regions |
| Cars from any city | Two to 4 days | Multi-deck car carrier |
| Air freight | 24 to 48 hours | Via the airport with delivery at both ends |
The Four Stages of a Shipment: How the Date Is Built
The most common misunderstanding about shipping dates comes from different meanings of “the shipment has started”. A customer may mean the day the first carton was collected, while the driver means the day the truck set off. To avoid this, Al Rahwan splits every shipment into four clear stages, each with its own date:
- Collection in Saudi Arabia: the crew arrives at the address, or the goods are collected from the supplier or warehouse.
- Preparation: dismantling, packing, numbering, inventory and approval of the contents list that will go to customs.
- The trip and the crossing: the road to Salwa, formalities on both sides, then entry at Abu Samra.
- Delivery in Qatar: arrival at the address, unloading, reassembly and checking the count with the receiver.
Once these stages are known, the date can be planned. Someone moving to work in Doha, for example, can work out the day they receive the keys to their home, the day their Saudi tenancy ends, and choose a loading day in between. Nobody should time the end of their leave or the cancellation of temporary accommodation in Qatar on the shortest advertised transit time; it is better to rely on the arrival window for their own shipment once its readiness has been checked.
What Delays a Shipment on the Way to Qatar?
- A contents list that does not match what is actually on the truck, or items added after the list was approved without telling anyone.
- Incomplete receiver details in Qatar: a mobile number that does not answer, an unclear address, or a receiver who is travelling.
- Restricted items not declared in advance, such as medicines, large batteries and perfume in commercial quantities.
- Incomplete car documents, such as the bank letter for a financed car or the export certificate.
- A building in Qatar that requires a lift booking or an entry permit for workers, with no slot arranged with its management.
- Peak periods before holidays and school breaks, when the crossing is busy and trips fill up.
Collection from Every Saudi City and Delivery Across Qatar
Al Rahwan collects from major cities and small governorates alike, and the way the trip is organised depends on how far the city is from the Salwa crossing. Shipments from nearby cities leave directly, while those from distant cities are consolidated at a warehouse and then travel together, which lowers the cost to the customer in exchange for an extra day or two.
Each major city has its own detailed guide covering its districts and collection times. This guide brings together the general picture that applies to every city: the same prices, the same documents and the same crossing, with the only difference being the length of the trip and the way shipments are consolidated.
Combining One Shipment from Several Cities or Suppliers
Not every consignment starts at one door. The household furniture may be in Riyadh, new appliances in a showroom in Dammam and a few goods with a supplier in Jeddah, all bound for one address in Doha. In that case each address gets its own list naming the owner of the goods, the number of pieces, when they will be ready and their proof of ownership or invoice, and a cut-off date is agreed for any item to join the shipment. After that date the packing list changes only after a fresh review, because changing the list once approved means changing the customs declaration.
Sometimes sending each source as a separate shipment is quicker than waiting for all of them. If the Jeddah supplier will be a week late, there is no point holding back furniture that is ready in Riyadh. The decision is made by comparing the cost of waiting with the minimum charge for each shipment, not by the number of trucks alone.
Shipping Prices from Saudi Arabia to Qatar
So what will you pay to send things from the Kingdom to Qatar? Shipping by weight starts from SAR 7.5 per kg with a 5 kg minimum, a carton of up to 30 kg from SAR 120, a bag from SAR 140, goods by volume from SAR 415 per cubic metre, a single room from SAR 740, a 3-room flat from SAR 2,780, a whole villa from SAR 6,350, a saloon on a shared open transporter from SAR 1,100, and a dedicated full truck from SAR 2,300.
The figures in the tables below are starting prices in Saudi riyals, meaning the lowest usual cost for each item in normal conditions. The final price is set once the collection city, the Qatari city, the volume or weight, the type of goods and the services required are known, and Al Rahwan then sends an itemised quote before loading so the customer knows exactly what they are paying for.

Worked Examples
These examples use starting prices only. They are meant to show how the cost adds up, not to be the final price:
- A student or employee moving with light belongings: 3 cartons (3 × 120 = 360) and two bags (2 × 140 = 280), a total from SAR 640.
- A small family moving a bedroom and some cartons: a bedroom (740) and 5 cartons (5 × 120 = 600), a total from SAR 1,340.
- A family moving its flat and its car: a 3-room flat (2,780) and a 4×4 on a carrier (1,390), a total from SAR 4,170.
- A parcel by weight: a 12 kg parcel costs 12 × 7.5 = SAR 90, while a 3 kg parcel is charged at the 5 kg minimum, i.e. SAR 37.5.
- Goods by volume: 4 cubic metres of packed goods cost 4 × 415 = SAR 1,660, and when the volume approaches a truckload it is compared with a dedicated truck from SAR 2,300.
What Raises or Lowers the Price?
On this route the price moves with specific factors that can be known in advance. The first is how far the collection city is from Salwa: a shipment from Al-Ahsa is closer than one from Tabuk. The second is the volume and weight of the goods after packing, not before. The third is the type of service: transport only, or dismantling, packing and reassembly, or wooden crates for fragile pieces. The fourth is the nature of the address in Qatar: which floor it is on, whether a lift is available, and how far the truck must park from the entrance. The fifth is timing, as an urgent booking in a busy season differs from an early one.
Additional clearance services, government fees, insurance, storage and special installation work are not automatically included in any starting price. That is why Al Rahwan’s quote separates what is done at collection, what is done at delivery and what needs separate arrangement or cost. The price of a car is calculated separately from the furniture, even if both travel on the same day.
- Sort belongings before booking and drop what will not be used in Qatar; every cubic metre less lowers the bill.
- Choose a shared truck if the date is flexible, and a dedicated truck only when the load is full or time is tight.
- Pack books and clothes in medium-weight cartons rather than large heavy ones that are hard to stack.
- Book early before moving seasons so the shipment can join a suitable trip.
- Ship the car and the furniture in one booking so both delivery dates are coordinated.
Shared Truck or Dedicated Truck?
A shared truck carries several customers’ shipments on one trip, with each customer paying for the space or weight they take up. It suits cartons, suitcases and part loads of furniture when the goods are compatible and the customer can live with the date moving by a day or two. Before choosing it, it is worth asking when consolidation closes, how many delivery points the trip has, and how each customer’s goods are marked and kept apart. A lower fare is of little use if the customer has to change their housing plans because of a wait they did not expect.
A dedicated truck is booked for one customer and travels directly from their address to their address in Qatar, so it suits a large house, a villa, commercial goods that fill the truck, and shipments that need special loading or delivery arrangements. Dedicating a truck does not remove the crossing formalities or the building access rules in Qatar, though. The most accurate way to compare is to ask for two quotes for the same list of goods and the same scope of service, then weigh the cost difference against what actually changes in the date.
| Criterion | Shared truck | Dedicated truck |
|---|---|---|
| Price | By space, weight or piece | A full truck starts from SAR 2,300 |
| Date | Tied to when the trip is full | Set by the customer’s readiness |
| Delivery points | Several addresses on the same trip | One or more addresses chosen by the customer |
| Suits | Cartons, suitcases and part loads of furniture | A whole house, a villa or a large consignment |
Furniture Moving from Saudi Arabia to Qatar

Moving the furniture of a whole home from a Saudi city to Qatar is a process with several stages, and each stage affects how the pieces arrive. It starts with an inventory of the home: what will move, what will stay and what needs dismantling. It helps if the customer photographs the wardrobes, tables, sofas and kitchen appliances, sends the measurements of large pieces and mentions glass, mirrors, marble and any pieces that have been repaired before, because the way they are carried and secured differs from a sound piece of ordinary design.
After the inventory, the Al Rahwan crew arrives on the agreed date, dismantles what needs dismantling and keeps screws, hinges and fittings in numbered bags linked to the piece itself. Surfaces are then wrapped in layers that suit each material: fabric blankets for wood, bubble wrap for glass and appliances, cardboard corner guards for edges, and clear plastic covers for sofas and mattresses. Every piece carries its number and the name of its destination room in the new Qatari home, so the delivery crew knows where everything goes without waiting.
| Stage | What is done | The benefit on arrival |
|---|---|---|
| Inventory and photos | A list of every piece and its condition, with photos | A reference for checking and the basis of the customs list |
| Dismantling | Wardrobes, beds and large tables taken apart | Smaller volume and protected joints |
| Packing | Layers by material, with wooden crates where needed | No scratches or breakage on the road |
| Numbering | A number and room name for every piece and its fittings bag | Faster reassembly with no small parts lost |
| Loading | Heavy items low, fragile items high, with lashing straps | A stable load all the way |
| Reassembly in Qatar | Rebuilding what was dismantled and placing pieces in their rooms | A home ready to use the same day |
The scope of reassembly in Qatar is agreed before booking. Carrying a wardrobe to its room and refitting its doors is one thing; fixing it to the wall or altering it to fit a smaller room is another, and is not automatically part of the moving service. Likewise, installing complete kitchens and plumbing in washing machines or air conditioners needs a separate agreement if required.
Measuring the Entrances of the New Home Before Loading
Before the truck leaves Saudi Arabia, the crew needs information about the entrance to the home in Qatar: the width of the door, the dimensions of the lift and any limits on its use, the floor number, and photos of corridors and tight corners. Measuring the width of a sofa alone does not prove it will get round a corridor bend, especially if it cannot be dismantled. Checking large pieces before loading is far better than discovering on arrival at a residential tower in Doha or Lusail that an external hoist is needed.
Many towers and residential compounds in Qatar require a lift booking or a furniture-moving permit for a set time. The customer or their representative confirms these arrangements with the building management and lets the crew know in advance. It is also important to decide who opens the door, who receives the packages and who directs the pieces to their rooms, and not to tie all of these tasks to someone who is travelling and cannot be reached at delivery time.
Fragile Pieces, Glass and Antiques
Glass tables, large mirrors, marble tops, chandeliers and antiques need special treatment. They are first wrapped in a soft layer that will not scratch the surface, then in bubble wrap, and their corners are protected with rigid cardboard pieces. The most valuable or fragile pieces go into a wooden crate built to their size, secured in the truck so it cannot move and nothing is carried on top of it. This kind of piece is listed in the inventory with a clear description and photos before and after packing.
Bedrooms, Kitchens and Electrical Appliances
Modern bedroom sets, including flat-pack sets from the big furniture stores, are often made of particle board that suffers from repeated dismantling and reassembly. So only what is necessary is dismantled, the original screws are kept with each panel, and each panel is wrapped separately so surfaces do not rub against each other. Kitchen units, upper and lower, are moved after being emptied, and it is agreed in advance whether they are to be refitted in Qatar, because the measurements of a new kitchen rarely match the old one.
Electrical appliances such as fridges, washing machines and screens are emptied, cleaned and dried before packing, the washing machine drum is secured where possible, and the fridge travels upright. Screens are wrapped in bubble wrap and stiff cardboard, ideally in their original boxes if these are still around. It is best to leave the fridge for a few hours after arrival before switching it on so that it settles.
Moving in Two Stages Instead of All at Once
The home in Qatar may not be fully ready at the time of travel, or a supplier of new furniture may be running late. In that case the move can be split into two stages: the first carries what makes the home usable, such as bedding, clothes, basic kitchenware and work equipment, and the second carries the rest of the furniture and the cartons that can wait. This is a plan to discuss according to quantity and cost, and it is not cheaper in every case, because each stage has its own inventory, documents and cost. Writing “urgent” on a carton does not make it arrive first unless a separate service has been agreed.
Home Readiness Checklist Before the Truck Leaves
Each of the following items should have a clear status before loading, and if a key item is still open, its effect on the date is discussed before the truck sets off:
- The keys to the home have been received, or an authorised person holds them.
- The furniture move-in slot is confirmed with the building management, and the lift is booked if needed.
- The receiver or their stand-in will be present, and the delivery crew has their details.
- The truck’s parking spot is known and close to the entrance.
- Who directs pieces to rooms, who checks the count and who approves any extra service are all known.
Sending early does not shorten a move if it ends with the furniture arriving at a locked door. An authorised person can receive the goods instead of the owner if their authority and details are arranged in advance; these responsibilities may be shared between family members and the property management, but they must be known to whoever carries out the delivery.
Car Shipping from Saudi Arabia to Qatar

Long multi-deck transporters are how Al Rahwan moves cars to Qatar, each one loading several vehicles for the same trip. Each car wears a protective cover over its paintwork, and its wheels are strapped down to the carrier deck so it cannot move all the way to Salwa and on to Doha. A car usually arrives within two to 4 days of collection, depending on the city of departure and when the carrier is full.
| Type of service | Description | Suits | Starts from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared open carrier | Cars from several customers share a multi-deck carrier, each one covered and strapped down | Saloons and family cars | Saloon SAR 1,100 |
| Open carrier for 4x4s | A wider, higher slot on the carrier with stronger lashing | Jeeps, pick-ups and large cars | SAR 1,390 |
| Enclosed carrier | The car rides inside a body sealed on every side, away from road dust and direct sun | Luxury, sports and classic cars | SAR 1,850 |
The type of carrier is chosen according to the car’s type, dimensions, ground clearance and running condition. A low sports car needs a suitable ramp angle onto the carrier, and a modified car or one with a leak or a drive problem must be declared before booking. The enclosed carrier option and the scope of protection and cover are reviewed and recorded in the quote before loading.
Car Condition Report Before Loading and After Delivery
Before the car goes onto the carrier, the Al Rahwan crew records its exterior condition with photos from every side and notes existing scratches and remarks, the number of keys handed over and any accessories travelling with it, such as the spare wheel. On delivery in Qatar the same notes are checked point by point with the receiver present, rather than simply saying “the car has arrived”, and the handover record is kept signed by both parties. This report is the only reference if any remark comes up after arrival.
Preparing the Car for Shipping
- Wash the outside of the car so its condition shows clearly in the report photos.
- Empty the car of personal belongings; items inside a car are no substitute for a separate shipment list.
- Leave only a little fuel, enough to drive on and off the carrier.
- Remove detachable external accessories and fold in the wing mirrors.
- Check that the battery is charged and the tyres and handbrake are sound.
- Hand at least one key to the crew and mention any alarm or special lock.
Ownership of the car, the owner’s authorisation and the requirements for bringing it into Qatar are reviewed according to the purpose of the move: a permanent relocation, temporary use or sale. The transport fee does not automatically mean registration in Qatar is done or government fees there are paid; those formalities are completed by the owner, or someone acting for them, directly with the Qatari departments concerned, and it is wise to ask what they involve before booking the transport. If a bank still holds finance on the car, it must first issue a letter allowing the vehicle out of the Kingdom.
Shipping Cartons, Bags and Parcels from Saudi Arabia to Qatar

Cartons and suitcases are the most numerous items shipped to Qatar: the clothes of a student starting a course, the things a newly transferred employee needs, gifts for family, and purchases from the Kingdom that are not available at the same price there. A carton of up to 30 kg starts from SAR 120, a bag from SAR 140, and parcels by weight from SAR 7.5 per kilo with a 5 kg minimum. Shipments from Riyadh generally take 48 to 72 hours, and those from the Eastern Province less.
For cartons to arrive intact and be easy to identify, it is best to group them by room or by receiver, with a serial number on each carton and a short contents list. Books and heavy items go into small or medium cartons so no carton exceeds 30 kg, glass is kept apart from anything that might press on it, and empty space inside a carton is filled with paper or cloth so the contents do not shift. A carton is measured after it is sealed, because the outer box and protective materials can change the volume charged.
Measuring Cartons and Working Out Their Volume
A carton measuring 60 × 50 × 40 cm has a volume of 0.12 cubic metres, and eight cartons of the same size come to about 0.96 cubic metres before any protective material is added. This calculation helps the customer estimate the space their belongings will take, and helps compare pricing per piece with pricing per cubic metre (from SAR 415). It is best to measure cartons after filling and sealing them, rather than just weighing the items outside them.
Some cartons cannot take any load on top, and some must stay one way up, such as cartons of crockery or sealed liquids. These cartons are clearly marked so the crew places them correctly in the truck. Spreading books across smaller cartons makes handling easier, but it does not necessarily lower the total weight or the price.
Suitcases and Bags
Before handing over suitcases, it is wise to check the locks, handles and wheels and to record the number of bags and any items with them. Nothing loose should be placed outside a bag without a label and protection, and bags that look alike need a clear label showing who receives them and their mobile number, especially if they belong to two families or are going to two addresses. A hard-shell case stands up to stacking better than a fabric one, and fabric bags are best placed inside a protective cover.
Liquids, batteries, perfumes and special materials must be declared in advance, because whether they are accepted differs between road and air. Passports, residence permits, original certificates and the papers a traveller needs to reach their home should not be placed in a furniture or carton shipment; their owner carries them.
A Courier from Saudi Arabia to Qatar for Small Parcels
Anyone who needs to send a small parcel once does not need a whole truck. An Al Rahwan courier calls at the address in cities covered by collection rounds, or the customer drops the parcel at the consolidation point, and it then joins the next trip to Qatar and is delivered to the receiver’s door. A parcel is charged from SAR 7.5 per kilo, with a minimum chargeable weight of 5 kg. This option also suits small online shops that send scattered orders to customers in Qatar, with a list of each order and its receiver.
Commercial Shipping to Qatar: Goods and Equipment

Companies, factories and traders send building materials, packaged food, appliances, spare parts, clothing, commercial furniture and equipment from the Kingdom to Qatar. Al Rahwan carries these goods either on a shared truck by the cubic metre from SAR 415 or on a dedicated full truck from SAR 2,300, while pallet loads and containers get their own line-by-line quote reflecting the count, the weight and the destination. The crew collects the goods from the factory, warehouse or supplier and delivers them to the receiver’s warehouse or shop in Doha, the Industrial Area, Mesaieed or Ras Laffan.
Commercial goods need a packing list linking each item to its quantity, its invoice and the package it is in. The description should be one that really identifies the goods, not a general phrase such as “assorted goods”, and it should say whether they are new or used and why they are being sent: for sale, as a sample or for use on a project. When purchases from several suppliers are combined, a single general invoice should not be used if it does not reflect the shipment’s contents, because Qatar Customs matches the declaration with what is on the truck.
| Type of commercial shipment | Suitable method | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Small or medium quantities | Shared truck by the cubic metre | Starts from SAR 415 per cubic metre |
| A load that fills a truck | Direct dedicated truck | Starts from SAR 2,300 per truck |
| Wrapped pallets | Stacked on a shared or dedicated truck | Itemised quote |
| A full container | By sea to Hamad Port or by road through Salwa | Itemised quote |
| Urgent samples and documents | Air freight | By chargeable weight |
Equipment and Heavy Machinery
For equipment, the weight and dimensions after packing and the lifting method at both the loading and unloading points are prepared in advance, and any batteries, liquids or sensitive parts are declared beforehand. Lifting points are checked against the manufacturer’s instructions, and it is agreed who provides the forklift or handling equipment in Qatar. Delivering to a warehouse with a loading dock is very different from bringing a heavy machine into an office in a West Bay tower in Doha.
Moving Offices Without Losing Equipment Accessories
In an office move, each desk or workstation is given a number, and the screen, its stand, its adaptor and its cables are tied to the same number. The organisation’s coordinator keeps a list of the devices’ serial numbers, and employees’ personal devices are kept separate from company property. The outer label on a package needs no passwords or internal information; a clear code matching the approved list is enough.
Before work equipment is disconnected, the organisation’s IT specialist handles data backup and safe shutdown, while the moving crew’s role is limited to protection, packing and handling; it is not responsible for managing data or restarting the network. If the organisation needs reception and some equipment working before the rest, those pieces are loaded last so they come off first in Doha.
A practical example: a company moving its office from Riyadh to Doha needs reception and some equipment working before the rest of the furniture. The coordinator starts by identifying the smallest set that keeps work going, links it to its accessories and installation spot, and then compares the cost of moving it on a first trip with sending the whole office on a single date. One list is drawn up of assets that keep working until the last day and another of assets that can be packed early.
A Supplier Defect or a Transport Remark?
New furniture or an appliance may arrive from the supplier with a torn package or a different size from the one ordered. In that case the remark is recorded when collecting from the supplier, before the item joins the rest of the shipment, and the decision returns to whoever placed the order: ship it as it is or return it to the supplier. Product photos and the supplier’s delivery note help show its condition, but they are no substitute for a technical inspection if the defect is internal. It is agreed in advance whether only the count and visible condition are to be checked or whether original packages are to be opened, because opening every package without permission is not acceptable.
Shipping Furniture for Embassies, Consulates and Their Staff to Qatar
Shipping the furniture and fittings of official premises and the belongings of their staff is arranged so that each category is kept separate according to its owner, address and requirements. A single file may contain the furniture of the mission’s premises, an employee’s suitcases and the furniture of their home, and sharing a moving date does not make these categories one shipment in terms of inventory, receipt or documents.
That is why an asset register is created for the premises’ assets with their numbers, plus a separate list for each employee or family, with clear authorisation in the name of the receiver in Qatar. When more than one employee is moving, each group is given its own code, and it is set out what goes to the mission’s premises and what goes to the home. Service invoices or their line items can be separated in line with the organisation’s administrative system.
Any official procedure for accredited missions and their members with the Qatari authorities is submitted by the mission itself through the proper channels, and the status and requirements of each case are reviewed before shipping. Handing furniture to a moving company does not replace that procedure, and an employee’s personal belongings are not treated as a diplomatic bag simply because they work at an embassy or consulate. Al Rahwan’s scope here is to move the furniture, belongings and fittings accepted after review, and to coordinate access and delivery according to the mission’s instructions.
Keeping Families’ Belongings Separate in a Group Move
When an employer moves several employees’ belongings to Qatar at the same time, each employee or family is given its own code, address and authorised receiver. The packages can travel on one trip if the plan allows, but each group’s list stays separate; counting all the cartons without knowing each receiver’s share is not enough. If an employee’s address changes or their arrival is delayed, only their group is amended rather than the data for the whole shipment.
Air Freight from Saudi Arabia to Qatar

Air freight is the fastest option to Qatar, with shipments arriving within 24 to 48 hours from collection in the Saudi city to delivery in Qatar, including transport to the airport, formalities and final delivery. Air suits documents, commercial samples, urgent spare parts, small valuable devices and first-days essentials for someone moving for work. There is no fixed published price per kilo for air; Al Rahwan sends an itemised quote based on chargeable weight, type of goods and city of departure.
How Is Weight Calculated in Air Freight?
Air freight is billed on the higher of two figures: the actual weight on the scale, and the volumetric weight, which is L × W × H in centimetres over 6000. The reason is that an aircraft is limited by space as much as by weight, so a large light carton takes up room that could have carried heavier cargo.
| Shipment | Dimensions (cm) | Actual weight | Volumetric weight | Chargeable weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carton of bedding and winter clothes | 55 × 45 × 40 | 11 kg | 99,000 ÷ 6000 = 16.5 kg | 16.5 kg |
| Tin of metal spare parts | 35 × 30 × 20 | 16 kg | 21,000 ÷ 6000 = 3.5 kg | 16 kg |
| Hard-shell suitcase | 80 × 50 × 30 | 23 kg | 120,000 ÷ 6000 = 20 kg | 23 kg |
In the first example the bedding carton is bulky but light, so it is billed at 16.5 kg although the scale shows only 11 kg. In the second, the tin of spare parts is small and dense, so its real weight of 16 kg is what counts. In the third, the suitcase’s actual 23 kg outweighs its volumetric figure. That is why, for air freight, it pays to keep packaging as small as possible and to send large light items such as clothes and bedding by road in cartons from SAR 120.
When Is Air Better Than Road?
Air is worthwhile when the value of time outweighs the difference in cost: a document that must arrive before a deadline, a spare part without which a production line stops, or a work device an employee needs on day one. Furniture and large numbers of cartons are much better suited to road, because the difference in transit time from Riyadh, for example, is only a day or two. A practical solution is to combine the two: send a bag or carton of essentials by air and the rest of the home by road, after confirming that the contents of the air portion are accepted for carriage by aircraft.
Paperwork Needed for Each Type of Shipment to Qatar
What paperwork does a shipment to Qatar need? Personal goods travel with the sender’s ID or iqama (copied), an itemised contents list, an authorisation the sender issues on Fasah in the broker’s name, plus the Qatar-side receiver’s full name, a mobile that will be answered, and the delivery address. Trade goods need the firm’s CR, its invoice, its packing list and, where customs asks, a certificate of origin. A car needs its export certificate, registration card, plates and owner’s ID, and a car still under finance must carry the financing bank’s written release.
| Type of shipment | Required documents | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Personal belongings, cartons and bags | Sender’s iqama or national ID (photocopy); contents listed carton by carton; the broker’s Fasah authorisation, and the name, mobile and address of the receiver in Qatar | The contents list must match what is actually in the cartons |
| Used household furniture | ID or iqama, a furniture inventory by piece and room, a Fasah authorisation, the receiver’s details and home address, proof of relocation if requested | Electrical appliances are listed by type in the inventory |
| Trade shipments | Packing list, commercial invoice, the company’s commercial registration, importer details in Qatar, and a certificate of origin if customs asks | Descriptions and quantities on the invoice match the declaration |
| Car | Export certificate, registration card, owner’s ID, plates, an authorisation for whoever hands it over if not the owner, and, where finance is outstanding, a release letter from the bank | The car is emptied of personal belongings |
| Official premises or office furniture | Letter from the organisation, asset register, packing list, authorisation for the approved receiver | A separate list for each employee or family |
The usual reason a load gets stuck at the border is not one absent paper but data that does not match: a name spelt one way on the ID and another way on the list, or a carton count on the declaration that differs from the number on the truck. That is why Al Rahwan checks names, numbers and package counts before the documents are approved. If an appliance is added or the sender or address changes, the crew must be told before departure so the paperwork can be updated; changing an invoice or list after formalities have started is not a formality, and it can change the crossing date.
Customs Clearance Between Saudi Arabia and Qatar: Fasah and Al Nadeeb
Every shipment to Qatar passes through two electronic customs systems. On the Saudi side everything goes through Fasah, an online service run by the Kingdom’s customs authority, where brokers clear goods, reserve truck slots and watch each declaration progress. The sender is usually asked to authorise the customs broker on it so the broker can submit the declaration on their behalf. On the Qatari side, declarations are submitted through Al Nadeeb, the single-window system of Qatar Customs where brokers and traders file declarations, pay charges online and follow the status of each declaration.
In practice the customer usually does not need to attend the crossing in person. They prepare the documents, approve the contents list and issue the required authorisation, and the broker then files and follows up the declaration on both sides. Customs charges and taxes in Qatar, where they apply to a particular type of shipment, are set by how the goods are classified, the value declared and what Qatar Customs decides on the declaration; as a rule the receiver pays them unless the agreement says otherwise, which is why they stay outside the starting prices.
Some items need prior approval from bodies other than customs, such as medicines, food supplements, wireless devices, food in commercial quantities and plants. Ask about these before booking, because approval takes time and cannot be obtained while the truck is waiting at the crossing.
Prohibited and Restricted Items for Shipping to Qatar
Al Rahwan does not accept any item prohibited under the regulations of the Kingdom or Qatar, and checks the contents list before loading for this purpose. Prohibited or restricted items include:
| Category | Examples | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly prohibited | Drugs, arms and ammunition, fireworks and other explosives, alcohol, pork products, indecent material, counterfeit goods | Not accepted in any shipment |
| Hazardous | Gas cylinders, fuel, flammable paints and solvents, chemicals | Not accepted with personal belongings |
| Restricted, with approval | Medicines in quantity, supplements, wireless devices, seeds, plants and soil, commercial food | With approval from the competent authority before shipping |
| Not advised for shipping | Gold, jewellery and cash; original documents and passports; perishable food | Carried by the owner |
If there are essential personal medicines, it is better for the owner to carry them with the prescription rather than put them in a carton on the truck. Anything unclear should be asked about before packing, because discovering it at the crossing can hold up the whole shipment until it is removed.
Insurance, Cover and Checking on Delivery
Before booking, ask about the scope of transport liability, insurance if required, the declared value, exclusions and how to report any remark. Al Rahwan offers optional insurance on the shipment based on its declared value and type, and the quote sets out what it covers and what it does not. Photos before and after packing help document condition, but they are no substitute for a documented agreement that defines the cover. An economy or premium price does not include any particular guarantee unless it is stated in the quote.
On arrival, package numbers and their condition are checked against the list, and any shortage or visible damage is recorded with a photo and a specific description in the delivery report. The packing materials linked to the remark and the delivery documents are kept until the required action is known. A complaint is reviewed according to the agreement and the party responsible; there is no single deadline or instant compensation that fits every case.
Tracking a Shipment from Saudi Arabia to Qatar
Every booking is given its own reference number, and updates arrive by phone or WhatsApp at the key points of the trip: at loading in their city, on arrival at the Salwa crossing, after Abu Samra formalities are complete, and before arrival at the address in Qatar, early enough to prepare for delivery. They can call 0568829975 at any time during working hours to find out where the shipment is.
It is advisable to give the receiver an expected date that is updated as new information comes in, and to keep a back-up receiver in case the main one cannot be there. A shipment that arrives with nobody to receive it may need to wait or go into storage at extra cost.
Temporary Storage at Either End
A customer may have to vacate their Saudi home before the Qatari one is ready, or the furniture may reach Qatar ahead of the keys. In such cases temporary storage can be arranged on advance request, in Saudi Arabia before shipping or near the delivery destination after arrival, with an inventory by piece and condition photos. Storage is priced by volume and duration with an itemised quote, and it should not be assumed to be free or included in the moving price. It is best to tell the crew before departure if there is any chance the home will not be ready in time, so the date, a back-up receiver or suitable storage can be reviewed.

- Get in touch: call 0568829975 or send a WhatsApp message with the collection city, the Qatari city and the date you need.
- Describe the shipment: send the list of items and photos, or carton dimensions and weights, or the car’s details.
- Specify the services: mention any need for dismantling, special packing, wooden crates, an enclosed carrier or delivery to more than one address.
- The quote: you receive an itemised quote showing what is included and excluded and the expected transit time.
- Documents: prepare the documents for your type of shipment and issue the Fasah authorisation when requested.
- Collection and packing: the crew arrives on time, packs and numbers everything and approves the contents list with you.
- The trip and updates: the shipment heads for Salwa and you get an update at each stage.
- Delivery: check the packages on arrival and sign the delivery report with any remark if needed.
What Information Should You Send When Asking for a Quote?
Precise details produce a quote that stays close to the final bill. Start with the Saudi city and the Qatari area, then the type and number of items, the dimensions of the largest piece and when everything will be ready. Mention the number of suppliers or collection points, the dismantling, packing and reassembly required, and any building access restrictions at either end. For a car, add its make, model, running condition and the preferred type of carrier. For an office or official organisation, name the authorised coordinator and say whether the shipment is organisational property, personal belongings, or both in separate groups.
Delivery in Qatari Cities: Doha, Lusail, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah and Al Khor
Al Rahwan delivers shipments to the door in every municipality of Qatar, and for furniture, delivery includes unloading, placing and reassembly on request. All shipments first pass through the Abu Samra area in Al Rayyan municipality and are then distributed to the cities:
| Qatari city or area | Type of delivery | What is arranged in advance |
|---|---|---|
| Doha (West Bay, Al Sadd, Al Dafna, Industrial Area) | Residential towers, offices, villas and warehouses | Lift booking and moving permit in towers |
| Lusail | Modern towers, flats and residential compounds | Access slot with the building management and the truck’s parking spot |
| Al Rayyan, Muaither and Abu Hamour | Villas, family homes and compounds | The gate and the entrance nearest the truck |
| Al Wakrah and Al Wukair | Villas and flats south of Doha | A clear address with building and street numbers |
| Al Khor and Al Thakhira | Homes and residential communities north of Doha | A time that allows for the extra distance |
| Mesaieed and Ras Laffan | Industrial zones and warehouses | Entry permits for industrial areas and unloading equipment |
| Umm Salal, Al Daayen, Al Shahaniya, Al Shamal and Dukhan | Villas, farms and homes | Directions and the access point |
The delivery method depends on the type of place. A site with a loading dock is different from a flat that needs pieces carried down a long corridor, and some buildings require workers’ names or the truck’s number to be registered before entry. That is why this information is gathered from the site’s own management and the required service is then included in the quote.
| Delivery situation | What is arranged before the truck leaves |
|---|---|
| A new home | Receiving the keys, management permission to bring in furniture, the lift booking and a room plan |
| A working office | An arrival time outside peak working hours so corridors stay clear |
| A commercial warehouse | The name of whoever signs for the goods, a forklift or labour for unloading, and counting packages at the door |
| More than one address | A list per destination, and reverse loading so the last drop sits deepest in the truck |
Addresses in Qatar: Zone, Street and Building Numbers
Addresses in Qatar are written as three numbers shown on the blue plate fixed to every building: the zone number, then the street number, then the building number. Sending those three numbers with the flat and floor, plus a pin on the map, saves the driver searching among look-alike towers in Lusail or neighbouring villas in Al Rayyan. It also helps if the receiver photographs the blue plate and the entrance that suits a truck, especially in compounds with one gate for residents and another for services, because arriving at the wrong gate can mean a long detour round the compound.
Common Mistakes When Shipping from Saudi Arabia to Qatar
- Comparing prices without comparing the service: a price without dismantling, packing and reassembly is not cheaper than one that includes them if the customer has to pay for them later.
- Listing contents in one word: writing just “household goods” falls short; customs expects each kind of item described and counted.
- Leaving items in the car: the car is shipped empty, and belongings inside it can delay its crossing.
- Forgetting the bank letter: while finance is outstanding, the car stays in the Kingdom until the bank releases it in writing.
- Overweight cartons: a carton over 30 kg is hard to carry and stack and is liable to tear.
- Not measuring the home’s entrance: finding out after arrival that the sofa will not fit through the flat door in Lusail.
- Sending original documents in the shipment: passports, residence permits and certificates stay with their owner.
- Relying on the shortest transit time: planning housing and leave around the fastest possible date rather than a realistic arrival window.
- Hiding restricted items: perfume in commercial quantities or undeclared large batteries can stop the whole shipment at the crossing.
